Features
There are two
types of
segments:
Requireme
nt
segments
Stock
segments
The segment
you assign to
the materials in
the
requirements
(for example,
Sales Order,
Planned
Independent
Requirement,
Stock
Transport
Order) is called
the
requirement
segment. This
allows you to
subdivide your
requirements
based on
certain criteria.
For example,
the incoming
requirements,
such as sales
orders, are
divided based

on the
requested
quality –
Quality 1,
Quality 2, or
Quality 3 – and
by the
customer
channel –
Store,
Wholesale, or
E-Commerce.
Stock
segments are
used for logical
distribution of
existing and
planned stock.
Therefore,
stock segments
are assigned to
both the
physical stock
and
procurement
proposals,
such as
planned
orders,
production
orders,
purchase
requisitions,
and purchase
orders.
For example,
you can divide
your stock
based on the
same criteria
as the

requirement,
that is, by
quality –
Quality 1,
Quality 2, or
Quality 3 – and
by country or
region of origin
– India, China,
or Germany.
You can assign
segments to a
material using
segmentation
structures and
segmentation
strategies in
the material
master.
Segment
ation
Structure
A segmentation
structure is a
combination of
two or more
segments of
any material.
For example, a
segmentation
structure can
be a
combination of
the quality,
customer
channel, and

country or
region of origin.

Strategy
A segmentation
strategy
determines
how the
system assigns
requirement
segments to
stock
segments. This
kind of
assignment
takes place
during
available-to-
promise (ATP)
check and
material
requirements
planning
(MRP).
Scope in
Segmentati
on Strategy
A segmentation
strategy can
contain
multiple
requirement
segments but
can be
assigned to
only one blank
stock segment.
Such
segmentation
strategies are
identified by
the scope in
segmentation
[Link] 7/8
8/27/25, 11:18 AM Segmentation | SAP Help Portal
strategy. Scope
defines the
mapping rules
or segment
combinations
in the
segmentation
strategy. You
must set
theScope field
to 1, which
means that
both
requirement
segments and
stock segments
are considered
during the
planning run.
