BILINGUAL CLASS PROGRAM
1. Academic Programs
1. Bilingual Subject Teaching – Selected subjects (e.g., Biology, Physics, Math,
Geography) are taught partly in English and partly in Indonesian. These activities must
involve non-English teachers in the classroom.
2. Vocabulary books – Students must own a vocabulary book that they need to learn every
week by categories.
3. Vocabulary quizzes – Teacher hold the vocabulary quizzes several times in a semester.
4. Presentation Day – Students present topics in English according to the lesson taught at
school (exp: narrative text, report text, explanation text, etc.), supported by Indonesian
explanations if needed.
5. Peer Tutoring – Students with stronger English skills support classmates or other
classrooms in learning subject terms.
6. English and Indonesian Debate Seminar – Students sharpen their critical thinking and
public speaking skills through exciting debates in both languages.
7. English Camp and Study tour – A fun and immersive experience where students
practice English in real-life situations while exploring culture, teamwork, and leadership.
8. Bilingual class Show – A special performance where students present drama,
storytelling, music, and cultural showcases in both English and Indonesian.
9. Essay & Debate Training – Writing bilingual essays and practicing debates in English.
10. Meet and Greet with a Guest Educator – inviting a guest educator to teach in the
bilingual classroom.
2. Language Enrichment
There are several major activities that can be done in order to practice 4 Skills in English
(Speaking, Listening, Writing, and Reading) such as:
1. English Speaking Day – One day per week dedicated fully to English communication.
2. Vocabulary Games – Students play several English Vocabulary Games in order to
improve their vocabularies in English. These games can also play with other classrooms
in exhibition or can also played with non-English teachers so that they can also improve
their vocabularies
3. Speaking Games – There are so many speaking games that can be play in the bilingual
class in order to improve their English Skills. For examples: “Guess Who!”, Simon
Says”, “Pictionary”, etc.
4. Speech Shadowing – Mimicking recordings of native speakers to improve pronunciation
and intonation.
5. Daily Conversation Practice – Short English conversations at the start of class.
6. Impromptu Speaking – Students speak for 1–2 minutes on random topics.
7. Real-Life Role Play – Acting out daily situations (ordering food, buying tickets, airport
conversations).
8. Picture Description / Show & Tell – Students describe objects or images in English.
9. Story Chain – Students build a story together by speaking in turns.
10. English Club Café – Classroom transformed into a café where conversations are only in
English.
11. Interview Simulation – Practicing interviews, talk shows, or news reports in English.
12. Bilingual Diary / Journal Writing – Students write short journals in English with
Indonesian summaries.
13. Movie Discussion – Watching English movies (with or without English subtitles),
followed by discussion in English and Indonesian.
14. Listening Practice – Students practice their listening skill through fun activities, for
examples listening to several English songs and completing the missing lyrics.
15. Reading Club – Reading short stories, articles, or journals in English, followed by
bilingual discussion.
3. Creativity & Culture
1. Drama / Role Play – Performing and Recording short bilingual plays and uploading
them to YouTube Channel.
2. Situational based Conversation – Students performing conversation based on certain
situation and upload those conversations through YouTube Channel in a form of videos.
3. Cultural Exchange Session – Introducing Indonesian culture in English and learning
about other cultures.
4. Bilingual Wall Magazine – Class magazine with articles in both English and Indonesian.
4. Competitions & Extracurriculars
1. Bilingual Speech Contest – Speech competitions in both English and Indonesian.
2. Storytelling Competition – Retelling Indonesian folktales in English.
3. Vocabulary Contest (Spelling-Bee) – Spelling letters based on vocabularies in English.
4. Writing competition – Performing writing competition like: Essay, Fiction, etc.
Those activities can be done as internal activities or we can invite other students from
another school to compete in the contest.
5. Collaboration & Technology
1. Bilingual Blog / Vlog Project – Creating bilingual blogs or video content.
2. Virtual Exchange / Pen Pal – Communication with students abroad using English.
3. Digital Quiz (Kahoot/Quizizz) – Interactive bilingual quizzes.
4. Bilingual Class of SMA 6 YouTube Channel – Building a YouTube Channel so that
the activities can be watched and learned by public.
6. Public Speaking & Confidence Building
1. Mini TED Talk – Short individual presentations in English (3–5 minutes).
2. Weekly News Anchor – Students present weekly news in English.
3. Class Tour Guide – Students act as school tour guides, explaining facilities in English.
