REMOVAL

NOTES:

This procedure contains some variation in the illustrations depending on the vehicle specification, but the
essential information is always correct.

This procedure contains illustrations showing certain components removed to provide extra clarity.

The suspension arm nuts and bolts must be tightened with the suspension arms in the normal ride position.
Failure to follow this instruction may result in premature failure of the bush.

The following step(s) applies to:


All vehicles

1.
WARNING:

Jaguar Land Rover Electric Vehicle Competent Person (EVCP) trained technicians only.

This procedure involves work on components associated with the High Voltage (HV) system. Only
technicians qualified to EVCP level or higher are allowed to perform this procedure. It is mandated that all
technicians involved with the steps in this procedure have read and understood the Electric Vehicle Safety
Rules. Refer to: Electric Vehicle Safety Rules (414-01 Battery, Mounting and Cables - High Voltage System,
Description and Operation).

2. Raise and support the vehicle on a suitable 2 post lift.


Refer to: Jacking and Lifting (100-02 Jacking and Lifting, Description and Operation).
3. Remove the 2 front wheel and tire assemblies.
Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

4. Remove the front bumper cover.


Refer to: Front Bumper (501-19 Bumpers, Removal and Installation).

The following step(s) applies to:


Vehicles with air suspension

5. Depressurise the suspension system.


Refer to: Air Suspension System Depressurize and Pressurize (204-05 Vehicle Dynamic Suspension, General
Procedures).

The following step(s) applies to:


All vehicles

Remove the 2 clips.

Remove the 6 bolts.

Remove the front undershield.


7.

Remove the 6 bolts.

Remove the HV Battery protection shield.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Remove the front wheel arch liner.


9.

Remove the 4 active grille fasteners.

10.
NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Release the 3 clips and remove the lower air deflector.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove and discard the front stabilizer bar link nut.

12.
NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Loosen, but do not fully remove the nut.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the ball joint seal is not damaged.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Using the special tool, release the tie-rod end ball joint from the wheel knuckle.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Remove and discard the tie-rod end retaining nut.

15.
NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove and discard the shock absorber yoke to lower arm bolt.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove and discard the inner steering boot clamp.

Keep the outer steering boot clip for use in the installation procedure.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Position the tie-rod as illustrated, pull the steering gear boot away to gain access to the lower control arm
bolts.

WARNING:

Make sure the front halfshafts remain in the Electric Drive Unit (EDU) when lowering the arms.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Remove and discard the front and rear control arm bolts.

Remove and discard the steering column lower shaft bolt.


20.

Remove the HV cable bracket bolt.

21.

Remove the HV cable bracket bolt.


22.

Disconnect the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) electrical connector.

23.

Disconnect the battery coolant pump electrical connector.


24.

Release the battery coolant pump.

25.

Disconnect the electric drive unit coolant pump electrical connector.


26.

Release the electric drive coolant pump.

27.

Release the coolant hose support bracket.


28.

Release the thermostatic control valve.

29.

Remove the 2 EDU bolts.


30.

Release the coolant hose support bracket.

31.

Release the 2 retaining clips.


32.

Using a suitable stand, support the subframe.


General Equipment: Transmission jack

WARNING:

This step requires the aid of another technician.

Remove the front subframe assembly and discard the bolts.

NOTE:

Do not disassemble further if the component is removed for access only.

Remove the front stabilizer bar.

35.

Release the EPAS wiring harness.


36.

Remove the steering gear and discard the bolts.

37.

Remove the radiator brackets.


38.

Remove the coolant pump brackets.

INSTALLATION

The following step(s) applies to:


All vehicles

1. Install the coolant pump brackets.


Torque: 10Nm

2. Install the radiator mounting brackets.


Torque: 10Nm

3. Install the steering gear using new bolts.


Renew Part: Steering gear bolts Quantity: 5.
Torque
M10
Stage1: 30Nm
Stage2: 60°
M12: 115Nm

4. Secure the Electronic Power Assisted Steering (EPAS) wiring harness.


5. Install the front stabilizer bar.
Torque: 60Nm

WARNING:

This step requires the aid of another technician.

CAUTION:

Make sure that the component is correctly installed to the mounting bracket.

Install the front subframe assembly using new bolts.


Renew Part: Front subframe to body bolts Quantity: 6.
Torque
Front subframe bolts
Stage1: 100Nm
Stage2: 240°
Centre subframe bolts
Stage1: 100Nm
Stage2: 150°
Rear subframe bolts
Stage1: 100Nm
Stage2: 60°

7. Remove the stand.


8. Install the 2 retaining clips.

9. Install the 2 EDU bolts.


Torque
Stage1: 60Nm
Stage2: 60°

10. Install the coolant hose support bracket.


Torque: 12Nm

11. Install the thermostatic control valve.


Torque: 12Nm

12. Install the electric drive unit coolant pump.

13. Connect the electric drive unit coolant pump electrical connector.

14. Install the battery coolant pump.

15. Connect the battery coolant pump electrical connector.

16. Connect the EPAS electrical connector.

17. Install and tighten the 2 HV cable bracket bolts.


Torque: 8Nm

18. Install a new steering column lower shaft bolt.


Renew Part: Steering column lower shaft lower bolt Quantity: 1.
Torque: 30Nm

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Secure the front and rear lower control arms to the subframe.

Install the new front and rear control arm bolts.


Renew Part: Rear lower control arm nut and bolt Quantity: 2.
Renew Part: Front lower control arm nut and bolt Quantity: 2.
Torque
Stage1: 100Nm
Stage2: 180°

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Install the steering gear boot.


Renew Part: Steering gear boot clips(s) Quantity: 1.

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Install the shock absorber yokes to the lower control arm.

Install a new shock absorber yoke to lower arm bolt.


Renew Part: Yoke retaining bolt Quantity: 2.
Torque
Stage1: 60Nm
Stage2: 90°

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Install the tie-rod ends to the wheel knuckle.

Install a new tie-rod end retaining nut.


Renew Part: Tie-rod end nut Quantity: 2.
Torque: 133Nm

NOTE:

Repeat the step for the other side.

Install the stabilizer bar link.

Install a new front stabilizer bar link nut.


Renew Part: Stabilizer bar link upper nut Quantity: 2.
Torque: 48Nm

24. Install the 4 active grille screws.

Install the HV Battery protection shield.

Install and tighten the 6 bolts.


Torque: 25Nm

Install the front undershield.

Remove the 2 clips.

Install and tighten the 6 bolts.


Torque: 10Nm

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Install the lower air deflector and secure the 3 retaining clips.

NOTE:

Repeat this step for the other side.

Install the front wheel arch liner.

29. Install the front bumper cover.


Refer to: Front Bumper (501-19 Bumpers, Removal and Installation).

The following step(s) applies to:


Vehicles with air suspension
30.
CAUTION:

Do not lower the vehicle to the floor. This step must be done without the vehicle's weight on the
wheels.

Using Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, partially pressurize the air suspension system.
Refer to: Air Suspension - Manual Control Procedure - [+] Air Suspension (204-05 Vehicle Dynamic
Suspension, General Procedures).

31. Install the wheels and tires.


Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

32. Lower the vehicle.

33. Using the Jaguar Land Rover approved diagnostic equipment, fully pressurise the air suspension system.
Refer to: Air Suspension System Depressurize and Pressurize (204-05 Vehicle Dynamic Suspension, General
Procedures).

NOTE:

Using Jaguar Land Rover approved equipment, check and if necessary adjust the wheel alignment.
SRO must be claimed separately.

Check the wheel alignment.


Refer to: Wheel Alignment (204-00 Suspension System - General Information, General Procedures).

Vehicles with coil suspension

35. Install the wheels and tire.


Refer to: Wheel and Tire (204-04 Wheels and Tires, Removal and Installation).

Using Jaguar Land Rover approved equipment, check and if necessary adjust the wheel alignment.
SRO must be claimed separately.

Check the wheel alignment.
