MAED 102 - EDUCATIONAL STATISTICS - SCIENCE
4:00 - 7:00 PM SUNDAY
Dr. Joseph G. Refugio, DBE, LPT
[email protected] COURSE GUIDE
I. Course General Objectives:
1. Enable students to understand and critically evaluate statistical
information relevant to educational research.
2. Equip students with the skills to apply appropriate statistical methods to
analyze quantitative data within the context of educational research.
3. Improve students' ability to design robust research studies, select
suitable statistical tests, and interpret the results accurately.
4. Train students to proficiently use statistical software for data analysis,
ensuring they can manage and analyze data efficiently.
5. Foster the ability to interpret statistical results clearly and to report
these findings in a way that is accurate, ethical, and aligned with
academic standards.
6. Instill an understanding of ethical considerations in data analysis and
the importance of integrity in the collection, analysis, and presentation of
statistical information.
7. Prepare students to apply advanced statistical techniques in their thesis
or dissertation work, enabling them to conduct high-quality, evidence-
based educational research.
II. Learning Modality
The course will be delivered through a blended learning approach:
1. Synchronous Learning: Real-time online classes via Google Meet or
Zoom.
2. Asynchronous Learning: Access to course materials, assignments,
and exams through designated platforms (Messenger,
Schoology).
Note to all Presenters and Students: Ensure you have a stable
internet connection to participate effectively in all online
sessions.
III. Course Deliverables
Oral Presentation
Weekly Assignments: Applying statistical techniques to sample
datasets.
Midterm Project: Analyze a provided dataset using descriptive
and inferential statistics.
Final Project: Conduct a complete statistical analysis of a dataset
related to the student’s research interests, including interpretation
and reporting of results.
IV. Course Assessment Components
Oral Presentation (30%)
1. Each student will be assigned a specific topic for
presentation.
2. Presentations should be conducted via Google Meet or
Zoom, lasting between 25 to 30 minutes.
3. Students must prepare digital presentations (PowerPoint or
video format) and submit them in advance to the instructor.
4. Active participation and engagement during peer
presentations are expected.
V. Shared Learning Insights/Attendance (15%)
1. Attendance is mandatory for online sessions.
2. Students are required to share insights on topics presented
during class discussions.
VI. Grading Breakdown
Oral Presentation: 30%
Midterm/Final Project: 40%
Weekly Assignment: 20%
Shared Learning Insights/Attendance: 10%
VII. Presentation Guidelines
1. Research your assigned topic using reputable sources, including
e-books and academic literature.
2. Prepare a digital presentation that summarizes key points and
includes recent, relevant information.
3. Ensure your camera is on during presentations, and maintain
proper online etiquette (e.g., appropriate attire, muting when
not speaking).
VIII. SCHEDULE OF ONLINE MEETING (SYNCHRONOUS)
4:00 - 7:00 SUNDAY
