PART 2 – READING (1 hour 15 minutes)

1. Read the following passage carefully and answer all the questions which follow.

Last year, I had the chance to live with my aunt in Kumasi because my parents had to travel

abroad for work. At first, I was nervous about staying away from home, but I decided to be

brave and helpful. My father advised me to always be responsible and truthful, no matter

the situation.

My aunt was a teacher and expected me to behave well and focus on my studies. I woke up

early every day, cleaned the compound, and helped my cousins prepare for school. I also did

my homework and helped others who had challenges with their lessons. Over time, my aunt

began to trust me and even left her phone and keys with me whenever she was not around.

One weekend, my cousin Kojo came to me with a plan to sneak into our aunt’s room to take

money for a video game he wanted to buy. I was shocked and told him I would not be part of

such a plan. He got angry and stopped talking to me.

Later that month, our aunt lost some money and questioned us. I told her what Kojo had

planned. She was very disappointed but happy that I told the truth. Kojo later apologized,
and things returned to normal. That day, my aunt told me, “Being truthful may not always

be easy, but it is always right.”

(a) What is the difference between the narrator and Kojo, according to the passage?

(b) Why did the narrator live with his or her aunt?
