1. SCOPE:

Following is the brief of activities that outlines the scope & intent of specification of Inverter duty transformer: -

a. Design, manufacture, assembly and testing at manufacturer’s works.

4. SPECIFIC DESIGN REQUIREMENTS:

Transformer shall be constructed in accordance to IS 2026/IEC 60076 and standards specified in the “Codes
& Standards” table. Transformers shall be complete & functional in all respects and shall be in the scope of
supplier.

The other important construction particulars shall be as below:


 Three phase oil-immersed conservator type (ONAN) cooling for outdoor installation.
 LV/33kV transformers should be provided with separate galvanically isolated low- voltage windings for
each inverter. These shall be of converter duty and suitable for operation with pulsed inverters.
 The transformer shall have an efficiency of not less than 99% (at 100% load and PF = 1) including no

load losses, load losses and stray losses.


 No load losses shall be limited to 0.1% of the transformer rating and load losses shall be limited to
0.9% of transformer rating.
 For inverter transformers no negative power tolerance values are allowed. The load loss and no- load
loss at specified temperature shall be based on the Owner’s requirement. Owner reserves the right to
approve or reject any transformer based on the guaranteed technical, quality etc.
 Transformers should be rated for a maximum temperature rise of 50°C by oil temperature and 55°C by
winding temperature above daily average ambient temperature of 32°C.
 Winding hot spot temperature rise shall be 66˚C over and above the design ambient temperature of
32˚C (32°C+66 °C =98 °C).
 Inverter Transformer impedance shall be as per the manufacturer’s recommendations and shall be as
per IS 2026 / IEC 60076 with tolerance. OEM to ensure that selected impedance should satisfy
Inverter’s short circuit withstand capacity. In short, selected Inverter short circuit withstand capacity
shall meet by impedance of transformer. Impedance shall be subjected to JGPL approval during offer
stage.
 Valid type test reports on similar rating of transformer from reputed third-party laboratory as
procedures defined IEC for multi winding transformer shall be submitted during detailed engineering.
 The Inverter transformer flux density shall be maximum 1.9 tesla at 110% rated voltage.
 Transformers shall be designed for an additional 10% long term overload taking into consideration the
maximum output of the inverter. Alternatively, Inverter duty transformer (IDT) shall be designed in
such a way so that IDT can support inverter capacity curve w.r.t. ambient temperature without
compromising transformer life and its performance.
 Winding shall be of Aluminium and with Class A insulation, which shall also provide both dielectric
strength and mechanical stability to the windings.
 Transformer shall be designed in such a way that Current density shall not exceed 2 A/mm2 at
Principal tap for Aluminium winding transformer.
 IDT capable of being operated continuously without any abnormality on any tap position at the rated
kVA without exceeding the temperature rise as per relevant IEC standards.
 IDT shall have the Minimum service life of 35 years.
 Sufficient number of radiators shall be provided to meet the requirement of temperature rise.
Transformer cooling calculations to be submitted for review & approval.
 The radiators shall be connected to the transformer through the shut-off valves so that they can be
detached without emptying the oil from the transformer itself. The shut-off valves shall be provided
with reliable and clear position indicators. In addition, radiators shall be equipped with oil drainage
valves and air release plugs. Radiator sheet thickness shall be 1.2mm minimum.
 Radiator: Heat dissipation calculation by tank walls excluding top and bottom should not exceed 500W
/ m2. Heat dissipation by fin type (pressed steel) radiator 1.20mm thick will be worked out on the
basis of manufacturer data sheet. And Radiators should be fixed at right angle to the sides and not
diagonally.
 Breather: Breather joints shall be of screwed type and the glass portion shall be covered with suitable
welded mesh. It may die-cast aluminum body or of poly propylene materials and inside container of
silica gel shall be of tin sheet, in case of aluminium die cast breather. And breather mounting to be
provided at a height of 300mm from the bottom of the transformer as the unit to be placed in a
platform height of 1500mm from GL.
 Overloads will be allowed within the conditions defined in the loading guide of the applicable IEC
60076 standard. Under these conditions, no limitations by equipment shall apply.

 The neutral terminal of windings with star connection will be designed for the highest over current
that can flow through this winding. LV Neutral point shall be brought out through bushing mounted on
the Top wall of Transformer Tank. Separate Neutral bushing shall be provided. The Neutral Bushing
shall be provided with metallic canopy (completely enclosed) for safety. Neutral bushing of Inverter
duty transformer shall be brought outside the tank for the testing purpose in cable chamber. It shall
be covered with insulation sleeve and have a sticker with “For testing purpose only. Do not earth”
text.
 Every care shall be taken to ensure that the design and manufacture of the transformers will be such
as to reduce noise and vibration to the level obtained in good modern practice.
 For Transformers with tappings, full power tappings shall be provided.
 A bolted cover to be provided at OCTC hand wheel with instructions along with (i) padlock provision
with supply of padlock with universal key (instead of padlock only) and (ii) a clear warning plate
(stainless steel) to be added above the tap changer wheel: “Danger – Do not operate the tap changer
when transformer is energized” in capital letters.
 Inverter Transformer shall be designed for at least 5% total harmonic distortion (THD) to withstand
distortion generated by the inverter as well as possible outside harmonics from the network.
 The transformer shall be suitable for continuous operation with a frequency variation grid code
requirement.
 Inverter Transformer shall have Cu shield winding between LV & HV windings. Each LV winding must
be capable of handling non-sinusoidal voltage with voltage gradient as specified by the inverter
manufacturer. Also, shield winding shall be taken out from tank through shield bushing and the same
shall be brought down to the bottom of the tank using 2-runs of 25x6mm copper flat and epoxy 3kV
support insulator for independent grounding.
 Transformers should be designed for 50°C ambient temperature & high dust conditions.
 Each transformer shall be rated for full continuous output capacity. The no load voltages, tapping
range, impedance and losses shall be selected to enable full output under normal conditions which
allow for the highest and lowest system voltage operation and shall not be restricted over the
specified ambient range.
 The smart transformer support oil level protection, oil temperature protection, protection, oil
temperature protection, oil pressure protection, buchholz relay protection. The transformer
protection is more comprehensive and safer solution via separate buchholz relay (as applicable),
pressure relief valve, oil temperature control unit and oil level gauge, oil flow of trip and pressure
relief along with trip when transformer failure.
 Vector group Dy11y11 or Dy11, supplier can propose subject to approval of company.
 Protection against overload, short circuit up to inverter, internal failure, over-temperature,
overpressure through protection relay type of DMCR or similar.
 Transformer manufacturer shall ensure to comply requirements of Inverter manufacturer (Impedance
requirement and others.
 The transformer shall be warranted for minimum of 5 (five) years against all material / manufacturing
defects and workmanship from the date of commissioning.
 Transformer shall be provided with suitable ventilation system to ensure the temperature rise limits
under most severe condition while in service however all tests and performance shall correspond to
air natural cooling.
 All bolts and nuts exposed to atmosphere shall be galvanized. All bolted connections to the tank shall
be fitted with suitable oil-tight gaskets that shall give satisfactory service under the operating
conditions for complete life of the transformer, if not opened for maintenance at site. Hardware/bolt

material shall be at least of grade 8. Alternatively, to avoid bending High Tensile Steel (HTS) is also
recommended.
 Adequate lifting lugs shall be provided to enable the core & windings to be lifted.
 The completed core and coil assembly shall be dried in vacuum and shall be immediately impregnated
with oil after the drying process to ensure elimination of air and moisture within the insulation.
 The framework and clamping arrangements of core and coil shall be securely earthed inside the tank
by copper strip connection to the tank.
 The tank together with radiators, conservator, bushings, and other fittings shall be designed to
withstand the following conditions without permanent distortion:
 Full vacuum (mm of Hg – value as per latest IEC), for filling with oil by vacuum. Internal gas pressure of
0.35 Kg/cm2 (5 Ibs/[Link]) with oil as at operating level.
 Structure design of the tank of transformer has to withstand, loading condition of full vacuum, oil
pressure and concentrated point loads of lifting, transportation.
 The tank cover shall be suitably sloped so that it does not retain rainwater. The material used for
gaskets shall be weatherproof neoprene or approved equivalent.
 Harmonic Factor as per Inverter manufacturer recommendation must be considered while designing
the transformer.
 The multi-winding transformer needs to be designed for long term operating conditions with
asymmetrical load on LV side i.e., in case three winding design, the transformer needs to operate
reliable with only power supply to one LV winding.
 For multi winding transformer, it is recommended to have close coupling and equal impedances on
each of LV winding to HV winding.
 Contacts from Inverter transformer fittings/protection devices shall be wired for tripping of inverter
transformer Circuit Breaker. Detailed scheme regarding same shall be finalized during detailed
engineering.
 Transformer shall be designed such a way that in case of any one LV winding is not loaded, another LV
winding or complete transformer should not be over heated due to oil circulation or any other
reasons. Transformer has to perform trouble free operation in all loading condition on any winding.
 Transformers shall operate below the knee of the saturation curve at 110% voltage to preclude ferro-
resonance and non-linear oscillations.
 Transformers and accessories shall be designed to withstand the expected fault levels. Dynamic ability
and thermal ability to withstand the short circuit force shall be demonstrated by tests / calculations.
 Bidder shall analyze the provide transformer loading profile in detail. Accordingly, shall propose the oil
& winding temperature rise. Further, hot spot temperature shall be such that relative rate of ageing
shall not exceed one (1) during any extreme loading as per provided loading profile of transformer.
 Bidder shall comply to the transformer design recommendations issued by Inverter manufacturer as
provided by Jakson Green.
 Conservator shall be provided along with Aircell.
 IDT shall be Compliant with local codes and regulations in terms of voltage and frequency variation as
required in the latest version Grid Code/Technical conditions.
 Transformers shall be in a location whose dimensions that facilitate straightforward
removal/installation of the transformer. Transformer installation and removal shall be possible
without dismantling the transformer and without dismantling any significant part of the inverter
station.
 Suitable inspection hole(s) with welded flange(s) and bolted cover(s) shall be provided on the tank
cover along with earthing terminals. The inspection hole(s) shall be of sufficient size to afford easy

access to the lower ends of the bushings, terminals etc.


 Rated LV voltage level: to be determined according to PV Inverter and PCS AC rated voltage.
 The transformers and accessories shall be designed to facilitate inspection cleaning, repairs and for
operation where continuity of supply is the primary consideration. All apparatus shall be designed to
ensure satisfactory operation under sudden variations of load and voltage as may be met with under
working conditions of the systems, including those due to short circuits.
 All materials used shall be of the best quality and of the class most suitable for working under
specified conditions and shall withstand the variations of temperature and atmospheric conditions
arising under working conditions without undue distortion or deterioration or setting up of undue
stresses in any part & also without affecting the strength and suitability of the various parts for the
work which they have to perform.
 All outdoor apparatus, including bushing insulators with their mountings, shall be so designed as to
avoid pockets in which water can collect. All connections and contacts shall be of ample crosssections
and surfaces for carrying continuously the specified current without undue heating and fixed
connections shall be secured by bolts or set screws of ample size, adequately locked, lock-nuts shall be
used on stud connection carrying current.
 For transformer core building, single lamination per layer should be used. The core not to be
saturated for any value of V/F ratio to the extent of 110% of the rated value of V/F ratio) (due to
combined effect of voltage and frequency) up to 10% without injurious heating at full load conditions
and will not get saturated.

WINDINGS:

 The bidder shall ensure that windings of all transformers are made in dust proof air sealed area &
conditioned atmosphere.
 The conductors shall be of electrolytic grade aluminium free from scales & burrs. The winding shall be
so designed that all coil assemblies of identical voltage ratings shall be interchangeable and field
repairs can be readily done, without special equipment. The coils shall be supported between
adjacent sections by insulating spacers and the barriers, bracings and other insulation used in the
assembly of the windings shall be arranged to ensure a free circulation of the oil and to reduce hot
spots in the windings.
 The insulation of the coils shall be such as to develop the full electrical strength of the windings. All
materials used in the insulation and assembly of the windings shall be insoluble, non-catalytic and
chemically inactive in the hot transformer oil, and shall not soften or otherwise be adversely affected
under the operating conditions.
 All windings of the transformers shall have uniform insulation. Windings insulated with Kraft Paper
material with Class A insulation.
 The conductor shall be transposed at sufficient intervals in order to minimize eddy currents and
equalize the distribution of currents and temperature along the windings.
 Tapping shall be so arranged as to preserve the magnetic balance of the transformer at all voltage
ratio.
 HV winding insulation shall be as per 33kV insulation and LV winding insulation shall be as of 3kV level.
 It is preferable to have Disc type winding on H.V. side, whereas L.V. winding shall be Foil. In case of LV
foil winding only diamond dotted Kraft paper shall be used and make of paper shall be subjected to
JGPL approval.

 The insulating material and insulating paper shall be kept in controlled environment as per
recommendation of OEM.
 Coil assembly shall be dried in Vacuum oven process only.
 Internal connection: All HV Flexible connections inside the transformer shall be copper only in case of
Al wdg. Transformer. Wherever copper to Aluminium connection is done, a suitable bimetallic
material connector/ lug should be used.
 The windings shall be clamped securely in place so that they will not be displaced or deformed during
short circuits. The assembled core and windings shall be vacuum dried and suitably impregnated
before removal from the treating tank. The copper conductors used in the coil structure shall be best
suited to the requirements and all permanent current carrying joints in the windings and the leads
shall be welded or braced.

CORE:

 The core shall be constructed from High grade, low loss, non-ageing, cold rolled, super grain- oriented
silicon steel laminations equivalent to M3 or better of max thickness of 0.27mm.
 The transformer shall be designed in such a way that the flux density in the steel core corresponding
to the Rated voltage and the rated frequency shall be not exceeding 1.65 tesla.
 Core insulation level shall be 2 kV (rms.) for 1 minute in air. (Insulation between core and bolt / core
and clamps).
 Adequate lifting lugs will be provided to enable the core & windings to be lifted.
 Core hot spot temperature shall be limited to 125° C at full load with voltage excitation of 100% or
105%.
 Core and frame terminal should be brought out on transformer top so as to enable meggering.
 The design of the magnetic circuit shall be such as to avoid static discharges, development of short
circuit paths within itself or to the earthed clamping structure and the production of flux component
at right angles to the planes of laminations.
 Surface insulation of laminations shall be rust resistant and have high inter laminar resistance.
Insulation shall be resistant to hot cooling medium. Laminations are not to be punched.

 Manufacturer should have in house core cutting facility for proper monitoring & control on quality &
also to avoid any possibility of mixing if prime material with defective/second grade material.
SGIL/State Utility/TPI representative may witness the core-cutting process.

 The core shall be rigidly clamped to ensure adequate mechanical strength and to prevent vibration
during operation. The clamping structure shall be so constructed that eddy currents will be minimum.

 The core and the coil assembly shall be so fixed in the tank that shifting will not occur when the
transformer is in Transit or moved or during a short circuit.

TANK AND CONSERVATOR OF OIL FILLED TRANSFORMER:

 Low carbon steel grade plates that have been stiffened and reinforced may be used. Oil tight welds
and joints shall be provided, and measures should be taken to prevent internal corrosion of plates.
 Tank side wall, bottom and top cover thickness shall be as per type test transformer of similar or
higher rating. However, minimum Tank thickness shall be 6mm for side and 8mm for top and bottom.
However, valid type test report to justify the offered thickness shall be provided.
 The Transformer tank and cover shall be of tested quality. The tank and the cover shall be of welded
construction and there should be provision for lifting by crane. The welding for transformer tank shall
be of continuous type (inside as well as outside). Inside tag welding is not acceptable. All seams shall
be welded and where practicable they shall be double welded. The tank wall shall be reinforced by
stiffener of structural steel for general rigidity
 The tank and cover of oil type transformer shall be fabricated from high grade low carbon plate steel
of tested quality. The tank and the cover shall be of welded construction and there should be
provision for lifting by crane. All bolted connections to the tank shall be fitted with suitable oil-tight
gaskets which shall give satisfactory service under the operating conditions for complete life of the
transformer if not opened for maintenance at site.
 The transformer shall be provided with conventional single compartment conservator with prismatic
toughened glass oil gauge. The top of the conservator shall be connected to the atmosphere through
indicating type cobalt free silica gel breather with transparent enclosure and shall be mounted
integral with the tank in such a manner that the lowest oil level bushings remain under the head of
liquid under all times. Silica gel shall be isolated from atmosphere by an oil seal. Inverter transformers
shall be provided with Magnetic Oil Gauge (MOG) with low oil level alarm contact.
 A double float type Buchholz relay conforming to IEC shall be provided for oil type transformer. The
relay shall be provided with a test cock suitable for a flexible pipe connection for checking its
operation.
 The Transformer shall have adequate capacity Conservator tank to accommodate oil preservation
system and volumetric expansion of total transformer oil. The conservator shall be bolted into
position so that it can be removed for cleaning purposes.

MARSHALLING BOX:

 The Marshalling box shall be tank mounted, Outdoor, Weatherproof IP55, sheet steel (2mm thick)
enclosed, with hinged door having padlocking facility and painted as per IEC standards. All doors,
covers and plates will be fitted with EPDM gaskets. Bottom will be at least 600mm from floor level and
provided with gland plate and cable glands as required. Top surface should be sloped.
 Marshalling Box (MB) shall be painted with white glossy paint from inside & outer surface of MB &
Transformer shall be painted with POLYURETHENE as per relevant IEC code.
 All contacts for alarm, trip and indication circuits will each be electrically free, wired for auxiliary A.C.
supply as specified and brought out to separate terminals at the terminal blocks in the Marshalling
box. Wiring will be with stranded, copper conductor size shall be not smaller than 1.5 [Link] for
control and 2.5mm for C.T. circuits, C.T. terminals will be provided with shorting facility. All internal

cables in marshalling box shall be FRLS type.


 It shall be in the OEM scope to provide the interconnection cabling between the marshalling box and
all the accessory devices of transformer by XLPE insulated armoured FRLS PVC outer sheath cables
routed through cable tray.
 All devices and terminal blocks within the Marshalling box will be identified by numbers.
 Corresponding to those used in the applicable schematic or wiring diagram. Ferrule numbers to be
provided on both sides of the control wires termination as per the approved drawing.
 150mm dial type thermometers and 150mm diameter dial type indicator shall be provided for oil and
winding temperature respectively. Minimum two potential free contacts for alarm and trip signals
shall be provided. Temperature sensing equipment shall be connected through capillary tube.
 All the incoming cables will enter the Marshalling box from bottom.
 The Marshalling box will have necessary accessories such as locks, glands, glass doors, terminal boards
and all other appropriate equipment as required.
 Marshalling box shall have OTI, WTI-LV (EACH LV) & WTI-HV Temperature indicators with accuracy of
1%. These indicators shall also be able to integrate with SCADA system to record the temperature
values in SCADA.
 Marshalling Box shall be with proper illumination and thermostatically controlled space heaters. One
dummy terminal block in between each trip wire terminal shall be provided. At least 10% spare
terminals shall be provided on each panel. Wiring scheme (TB details) shall be engraved in a stainless-
steel plate with viewable font size and the same shall be fixed inside the Marshalling Box door. A
sheet steel, weather proof, vermin proof and dust proof marshalling box (IP 55) shall be furnished.
 The marshalling box shall have necessary accessories such as manual-auto changeover switch, WTI
with 4 micro switches, OTI with 2 micro switches, fittings, switches and contactors etc. on front side
and wiring on back side.
 All the cables between this unit and fans (if applicable), WTI, OTI, Buchhloz relay etc. shall be provided
by Vendor with its terminations.
 Pressure release devices operating at a static pressure below the hydraulic pressure of the tank shall
be provided at all appropriate locations. The device shall also be equipped with potential free contact
for alarm/trip and connected to the marshalling box with dome on top on tank with tripping
arrangement with explosion vent. Inverter transformer shall be provided with spring operated
Pressure Relief Device (with trip contacts) with suitable discharge arrangement for oil. Discharge of
PRD shall be properly taken through pipes upto 300 mm above tank bottom without any bending. &
directed away from the transformer /other equipment.
 View glass should be covered with suitable welded mesh. And Diagram plate (aluminum) should be
riveted inside. Door locking by swing handle compression latching systems preferred.

INSULATING OIL (UNINHIBATED OIL AS PER IS 335 / IEC 60296):

 The transformers oil shall be pure virgin of naphthenic base petroleum product, without any
antioxidant (uninhibited) in accordance with latest edition of IS 335 / IEC 60296.
 The transformers oil shall be ‘non-corrosive’ according to IEC 62535 and without metal passivator
according to IEC 60666.
 For the first oil filling of each transformer 10% extra oil of total quantity of oil shall be provided.

BUSHINGS:

 HV Bushing: Solid porcelain (Type tested design)


 LV: Flat Bus Bar encapsulated Epoxy (Type tested design)
 No arcing horns to be provided on the bushings.
 Current carrying part of bushing shall be copper or copper alloy only.
 Termination: Bushing terminals shall be provided with suitable Palm of approved type and size for
termination. End copper palm shall be made of Electrolytic copper with high Electrical conductivity &
electro tinned 15 microns minimum.
 Transformer HV & LV bushing operating ambient temperature value as per temperature class 2 of IEC
60137.
 Bushings shall conform to the relevant IEC standards specified and it should be placed coinciding with
the Centre line of the transformer rollers.
 Creepage distance of bushing shall be 31mm/kV.
 For HV side, 33V class bushing and for LV side 3kV class bushings to be provided.
 Bushings shall have non-ferrous flanges and hardware.
 Bushings shall be so located on the transformers that full flashover strength will be utilized, and
minimum clearances as required for the BIL will be realized between live parts and live parts to
earthed structures.
 Bushings shall be designed and tested to comply with the applicable standards.
 Fittings made of steel or malleable iron will be galvanized.
 Bushings will be connecting the bushing terminal to the specified conductor.
 Short circuit current rating of Bushings mounted in cable box shall be:-
HV: 25kA for 2sec
LV: 50kA for 2sec

VALVES:

 All valves shall be of Gun metal, Radiator valve and Pressure Relief valve shall be of sluice type
providedwith hand wheels. The valves shall have padlocked facility in closed and open condition.

GASKETS:

 Gasket shall be fitted with weather proof, hot oil resistant, rubberized cork gasket.
 If gasket is compressible, nb2 stops shall be provided to prevent over compression.
 The gaskets shall not deteriorate during the life of transformer if not opened for maintenance at site.
All joints flanged or welded associated with oil shall be such that no oil leakage or sweating occurs
during the life of transformer. The quality of these joints is considered established, only if the joints do
not exhibit any oil leakage or sweating for a continuous period of at least 3 months during the

guarantee period. In case any sweating or leakage is observed, OEM shall rectify the same & establish
for a further period of 3 months of the same. If it is not established during the guaranteed period, the
guaranteed period shall be extended until the performance is established.
 All bolted connections to the tank shall be fitted with suitable oil-tight gasket, which shall give
satisfactory service under the operating conditions. Special attention shall be given to the methods of
making the hot oil-tight joints between the tank and cover as also between the core and the bushings
and all other to ensure that the joints can be remade satisfactorily and with ease, with the help of
semi-skilled labours. Where compressible gaskets are used, steps shall be provided to prevent over
compression. Bushings, turrets, cover of accessories, holes and other devices shall be designed to
prevent any leakage of water into or oil from the tank. There should not be any leakage for three
years and this should be guaranteed. All the gaskets to be provided shall be RC70C or RC80C grade.
Necessary tests certificates from manufacturers shall be submitted along with the acceptance test
report. The gasket to be used shall not be older than One year.

CORROSION PROTECTION:

 Transformer along with its accessories shall be suitable for C3-M corrosion category.

EARTHING ARRANGEMENT:

 Shield winding shall be taken out to tank with two separate connection from shield to bushing with
proper support with 2 nos. 3.6 kV shield bushings and same shall be brought down to the bottom of
the tank using 2-runs of copper flat as per design calculation and epoxy 3kV along with support
insulator from tank for independent grounding.
 Core Yoke Earthing at 1 location.
 LV Neutral point shall be brought out through bushing mounted on the Top wall of Transformer Tank.
Separate Neutral bushing shall be provided. The Neutral Bushing shall be provided with metallic
canopy (completely enclosed) for safety. The Neutral Bushing mounting flange should be up by 30 mm
from transformer top cover to avoid ingress of rainwater in tank through gasket. Neutral bushing of
Inverter duty transformer shall be brought outside the tank for the testing purpose in cable chamber.
It shall be covered with insulation sleeve and have a sticker with “For testing purpose only. Do not
earth” text.
 Body Earthing at 2 diagonally opposite points.

CABLE BOXES:

 HV Cable boxes shall be of phase segregated air insulated type & shall be of sufficient size to
accommodate Jakson’s cable & termination. Phase segregation shall be achieved between phases.
 Cable boxes shall have bus bars or suitable terminal connectors of adequate size & bolt holes to
receive cable lugs. The degree of protection of cable boxes shall be IP 55.
 A suitable removable gland plate of non-magnetic material drilled as per Jakson’s instruction shall also
be provided in the cable box.
 Gland plate shall be of Aluminium material with thickness not less than 5mm. The size will be as

555x705mm and 125mm distance shall be maintained between gland holes 125mm and 240mm
distance should be maintained between first gland hole to edge of plate (main tank side). All gland
holes should be in line with bus-bar hole.
 The support from base for the cable box (for 3 kV and above side) shall be of galvanized iron.
 The OEM shall provide earthing terminals on the cable box, as per Jakson’s requirement.
 The minimum length provided for terminating 33 kV & 3 KV XLPE cable shall be 1000 mm (for 33 kV) &
650 mm (for 3 kV) from cable gland plate to the cable lug for the cable boxes. The final cable size,
number & length of terminating XLPE cable shall be furnished during detailed engineering.
 Cable boxes shall be designed such that it shall be possible to move away the transformer without
disturbing the cable terminations, leaving the cable box on external supports (as applicable).
 The HV termination should be through a bus bar arrangement (50X6 mm tinned copper) with flexible
expansion connection & supported by 36 KV class insulators. Creepage distance for Support Insulator
shall be minimum 1116 mm (to be confirmed by Vendor)
 The LV side terminations shall be done through tinned copper flexible & LV tinned copper busbar.
Minimum size of flexible & busbar should be such that maximum current density shall not exceed
1.2A/sq,mm for LV busbar and jumper connected to LV Bushings.
 The Trafo. LV busbar should be supported by suitable insulator (3 KV) at minimum three places from
cable box. The minimum hole to hole spacing in LV Busbar shall be such that there is no issues for
cable lug termination.
 The LV side busbar should have flexible expansion connection between each LV bushing & LV busbar
to avoid transfer of cable load on main bushing.
 Copper Flexibles shall be made of braided copper or laminated copper of minimum 350 mm lengths
and flexible portion shall have sufficient length to take care of expansion & contraction.
 Cable boxes shall have removable top cover & ample clearance shall be provided to enable either
transformer or each cable to be subjected separately to high voltage test.
 Verification of bushing thermal short-time withstand need to be calculated as per IEC 60137.
 Maximum values of temperature and temperature rise above ambient air for the bushing shall be in
accordance with Table-2 of IEC 60137.
 HV Bushing continuous current rating shall be arrived considering the derating on account of higher
ambient temperature within the cable box.
 LV Bushing shall be suitable for transformer through fault current.
 LV Busbar shall be rigidly supported from top through suitable insulators.
 LV Busbars shall be sized considering the various derating factors such as derating on account of
higher ambient temperature within the cable box, derating due to enclosure, due to proximity effect,
thermal rating of the conductor, due to used hardwares & fasteners etc.
 In HV & LV cable box, FRP Plate (Minm. 2mm thick) partitioning between phase to phase terminals
throughout the box. The FRP fixing shall be detachable type such that during cable termination it shall
be possible to remove the plate and fix later on.
 Sheet thickness for HV& LV cable box shall be 2 mm (minimum).
 Support structure of HV&LV cable boxes & radiator: Hot dip Galvanized iron (GI) and the support shall
be from ground (Up to below 500 mm from Rail level.) along with GI structure for cable clamping

5. FITTINGS:

Following fittings shall be provided with Transformers covered under this sub section.

Conservator with air cell & air cell rupture relay, MOG with Canopy, drain valve, Prismatic gauge, filling
a. valve, cobalt free silica gel breather (maximum height 1400 mm above ground level), isolation valve,
Brass air release plugs etc.
Buchholz relay, double float type with alarm and trip contacts, along with suitable gas collecting
arrangement. Buchholz relay shall be provided with 2Nos. of shut off valve (on conservator side and tank
b.
side). It shall consist of oil / gas sampling & collection device with bleed valve & copper piping, Canopy
etc.
For Inverter transformer and transformers with rating 5 MVA & above, shall be provided with minimum
two numbers of spring operated PRD (with trip contacts) with suitable discharge arrangement for oil
shall be provided. Location of this valve shall be such that the hot oil discharge shall not fall on the
c. transformer or any of its parts. This shall include all necessary arrangements to facilitate proper
discharge of PRV through discharge pipes away from the transformer. Discharge of PRD shall be properly
taken through pipes upto 300 mm above tank bottom without any bending. & directed away from the
transformer /other equipment.
OTI (1 no.) & WTI (1 HV & 4 LV) shall be 150 mm dial type with alarm and trip contacts with maximum
reading pointer & resetting device (maximum height 1500 mm above ground level). For Inverter
Transformers, WTI shall be provided at least for all LV windings. Shall be PT-100 type temperature
d. detector in each limb. Single Indicating meter may be provided for display of temperature of all limbs.
Accuracy class of Indicating meter shall be +/- 1% or better and it shall have least count of 0.1 °C or
better. 1 no. 4-20 mA signal shall be provided for remote monitoring of winding Temperature.
Top & bottom filter valves with threaded male adapters (blanking plug), bottom sampling valve, and
e. drain valve/sludge removal valve at the bottom most point of the tank. Drain valve for conservator, with
blanking plug, shut-off valves for radiators, with open & close markings.

connectors and all other attachments that are necessary to meet its functional aspects. Terminal

connectors for each case shall be as per connection requirements:

Bidder shall offer type tested transformer(s) including short circuit test (as per IEC 60076 part-5) for the
project.
In case the bidder/OEM has conducted type test(s) specified in the specification within last five years, he
may submit the type test reports to the owner for waiver of conductance of such type test(s). These
reports should be for the tests conducted on the equipment similar (As per IEC 60076) to those proposed
to be supplied under this contract and test(s) should have been either conducted at an independent
laboratory or should have been witnessed by a client.

Every completed transformer shall be subjected to following routine tests as per the latest edition of IEC
60076 unless specified otherwise.

1. Duration of loading at respective ambient temperature shall be considered for throughout 24 hours.
2. During overloading duration of transformer hot-spot temperature shall not be exceeded beyond the
range defined in the IEC 60076-7.
3. Relative Ageing Rate for above duty cycle shall not exceed 1.0.

11. DELIVERY CONDITIONS AND PACKING:


1. The Equipment shall be dispatched duly packed to avoid transit damages.
2. Insulator should be protected with 2ply corrugated paper sheet.
3. Transformer should be wrapped over all with polythene sheet.
4. Provision for sealing the tank diagonally opposite ends at top cover, to be provided. And adequate
sealing on valves shall be done such as to avoid transport mischiefs.
