CAS Experience Reflection Assignment

Objective: Reflect on a recent CAS experience, considering how it connects


to the CAS strands and which Learning Outcomes it addresses.

Part 1: Overview of the Experience

1. Briefly describe the CAS experience (What did you do? When? Where?).
Running on the school track every Monday and Wednesday afternoon.
2. Which CAS Strand(s) does this experience relate to (Creativity,
Activity, Service)? Explain why.
Activity, because it involves physical activity and contributes to a
healthy lifestyle.
Service, because I have made a positive impact on others by
organizing some events (it is when I was in middle school, though)

Part 2: Reflection on Learning Outcomes

Choose at least two of the CAS Learning Outcomes that were addressed
in this experience and respond to the following prompts for each:

1. Identify Strengths & Growth (LO1: Identify own strengths and


develop areas for growth)

o What skills or qualities did you demonstrate during this


experience?
Speed and stamina in running. Will power to endure with the
pain. Communication skills with people.
o What challenges did you face, and how did you work to improve?
The pain in my legs are hard to ignore. But I moved on anyhow
until I hit the finish line. The challenge to let my class monitor
and homeroom teacher to agree with me. I tried to use the
physical health aspect to convince them and finally succeeded.
2. Challenge & New Skills (LO2: Demonstrate that challenges
have been undertaken, developing new skills)

o What was challenging about this experience?


To properly plan for training inorder to obtain the biggest
improvement while not being overstrain.
o What new skills or perspectives did you gain?
The best runners are the ones who know how to take a proper
rest.
People can be very easy to convince if you first agree with their
opinions.

3. Planning & Initiative (LO3: Demonstrate how to initiate and


plan a CAS experience)

o How did you contribute to the planning or execution of this


experience?
I have once organized a small race in my middle school, I have
proposed a activity plan to my class monitor and the school
leaders, and participated in refining the organization methods.
o What did you learn about organizing an activity?
People are more willing to join in when there are prizes and
replenishment offered in the competitions.

4. Collaboration & Teamwork (LO4: Show commitment to and


perseverance in CAS experiences)

o How did you work with others?


I tried negoiating with students in my class to make them
provide supplies to the activity.
o What did you learn about teamwork or leadership?
It is easier to finish a task when there is a clear division of work.
5. Global Engagement & Ethics (LO5: Demonstrate engagement
with issues of global significance)

o How did this experience connect to a local or global issue?


Students in China generally lack physical activities in their school
life, I wanted to make them more aware of the healthy lifestyle
they could lead if they have wisely utilize their spare time.
o Did it raise any ethical considerations?
No, it probably didn’t.
6. Recognizing Benefits (LO6: Recognize and consider the ethics
of choices and actions)

o What positive impact did this experience have on you or others?


This experience made me a lot more experience in
communicating with people, especially with my peers. And some
of my classmates have also fell in love with running eversince,
which made them more healthy.
o Were there any ethical decisions you had to make?
No, there wasn’t.
7. Personal Growth (LO7: Recognize the benefits of working
collaboratively)

o How has this experience contributed to your personal growth?


I have a much healthier body compared to the start of middle
school, due to my three and a half year of practice. And now I
have more experience in communicating with people.
o What would you do differently next time?
I would be more careful about my language to persuade people.

Part 3: Future Application

1. How has this experience influenced your future CAS goals?


Now I consider will power as a incredibly important aspect in my life,
and I wish to further develop my will power in terms of academic
pursuit.
2. Would you recommend this experience to other students? Why or why
not?
No, I wouldn’t. Mainly because this experience is rather personal, I
think people would have better options than this.
