Subject: English Grade:4/ Top 10 Ways to Reduce Wastes

Name:…………..…………………………………..

Reading Passage: Understanding Pollution

Pollution is the act of making the environment dirty or harmful. It can

affect the air we breathe, the water we drink, and the land we live on. There are
many types of pollution, such as air pollution, water pollution, and land
pollution. These types of pollution are mostly caused by human activities.

Air pollution happens when harmful gases and smoke get into the air. This
usually comes from cars, factories, and burning things like coal or trash. It can
make it hard to breathe and can even cause illness.

Water pollution occurs when waste or chemicals are dumped into rivers, lakes,
or oceans. This can kill fish and other animals, and make the water unsafe to
drink or swim in.

Land pollution includes littering and dumping waste on the ground. This can
harm plants and animals and make the land look ugly.

We can help reduce pollution by recycling, using less plastic, and keeping our
surroundings clean. Everyone can make a difference by being more careful with

Reading Passage: The Three Rs – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

The Earth is our home, and it's important to take care of it. One way we can help the planet is
by following the Three Rs: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Reduce means using less. For example, turning off lights when you're not using them saves
electricity. Using both sides of a piece of paper saves trees. When we reduce, we create less
waste.

Reuse means using things more than once. Instead of throwing away an old jar, you could use it
to store pencils or snacks. Donating clothes you no longer wear is another way to reuse.

Recycle means turning old things into new things. Cans, bottles, paper, and plastic can often be
recycled at special centers. Recycling helps save energy and keeps trash out of landfills.

By following the Three Rs, we can keep the Earth clean and healthy. Even small actions can
make a big difference!
