Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to
CO1 :: remember the basic concepts of concepts related to safety management and processing
of the crime scene
CO2 :: understand different types of searching and documentation techniques based upon crime
scene
CO3 :: apply the role of physical evidences in investigation and reconstruction of crime scene
CO4 :: analyze the comparison of new laws with previous laws related to forensic science
Unit I
Understanding crime scene : introduction to crime scene, types of crime scene, evaluating crime
scene, processing crime scene, securing the scene of crime, documenting the crime scene, note
making, sketching, photography, videography, role of first arriving officer at crime scene
Unit II
Physical evidences : defining physical evidences, types of physical evidences, classification, role of
physical evidences in criminal investigation, trials, searching techniques at crime scene, processing
and examination of physical evidences, probative value of physical evidences, maintaining chain of
custody, types of physical evidences Hair, Fibre, Glass, Tool marks
Unit III
Safety considerations at crime scene : maintaining appropriate health and safety standards at the
scene of crime, legal considerations at crime scene, forensic database, information, manpower,
logistics management of crime scene, safety measures for evidence collection
Unit IV
Advances in crime scene management : digital imaging of crime scene, 3-D scanning technique,
tele forensic technology for crime scene investigation, mobile forensic units, mobile kits, equipment,
utility of mobile kits on scene of crime, case studies, report writing of crime scene visits, national and
international scenario of crime scene management

Legal provisions relating to crime-I : reconstruction of crime scene, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
