INTRODUCTION Shopping malls are key economic and social hubs in modern
society, promoting commercial activity and offering diverse
services to consumers. This report focuses on the Dadfa
Community Mall, an innovative architectural project that
integrates commerce, culture, and community. The mall,
designed as a family-friendly destination with children's play
areas, aims to boost tourism in Thailand and support the local
economy.

The report will analyze the mall's architectural design, including

plans, facades, and site layouts, while also evaluating its
sustainability features, such as the use of eco-friendly
materials and energy-saving technologies. The social and
cultural impact of the mall, as well as its economic feasibility,
will also be examined, with input from project architects.

The Dadfa Community Mall was chosen as a case study due to

its cultural relevance to the local context. The project serves as
a model that can inspire future urban development in our city.
The goal of the report is to gain insights into sustainable urban
planning, understand project challenges, and propose solutions

Project Data
• Geographical Location: The mall is situated between Soi Lasalle 31 and Soi Lasalle 33, in the Lasalle area, Bangkok, Thailand.
• Surrounding Environment: The area is primarily residential and is home to several schools and markets, making it an ideal community
destination.
• Area: The mall is built on a total area of approximately 6,000 square meters.
• Green Spaces: 65% of the total area consists of green spaces and gardens, enhancing the natural and recreational atmosphere.
• Relaxation Activities: The green spaces include rock gardens and dedicated relaxation corners, providing a comfortable and tranquil
environment for visitors.
• Commercial Area: The remaining 35% is occupied by shops and restaurants, carefully selected to offer healthy food options and a
unique shopping experience.
• Overall Design: The design aims to foster community connections by blending commercial activities with entertainment and
relaxation in an open and simplified environment.
•Users Percentage: The approximate number of daily visitors is between 2,400 and 3,600 people on normal days. On weekends and
days when special events are held, the number can rise to around 5,000 visitors or more due to the activities that the complex regularly
organizes.

STRUCTURAL SYSTEM:
The DADFA Community Mall features a structural system combining steel frameworks with small
concrete columns arranged on a 3×3-meter grid. This design allows for flexible open spaces that enhance
connections with the surrounding green areas, and the steel roof can support future expansions if
needed.
The facade uses perforated steel panels as sunshades, which help improve ventilation and reduce noise
and pollution from the nearby street. The design heavily relies on raw materials like concrete and steel,

INTERIORS
Master plan design intent is to encompass a space which
can be multifunction by simplifying architectural and
structural work integrating landscape mechanical and
electrical work in the direction.

The main area has been developed to be a health friendly

Central space is the main event activity. All retail space is

Leasing space can be functional in a horizontal or vertical

direction by using 7 staircases to connect the upper

ADVANTAGES AND DRAWBACKS

Advantages:
1. Sustainability and Green Space: Over 65% of the site is dedicated to green areas, acting as a “community lung” for the
surrounding residential and educational zones. The inclusion of rooftop vegetable farms and permeable green spaces
helps support environmental sustainability .
2. Multifunctionality: The design focuses on simplifying architectural and structural work, allowing flexibility in retail
spaces. These can be adapted both horizontally and vertically, making it easy to modify for new tenants or future
expansions .
3. Natural Ventilation and Lighting: The use of perforated steel plates in the façade allows for natural ventilation while
protecting against noise and dust from the streets. This design helps maintain a connection between the building and the
surrounding green spaces .
4. Aesthetic Integration with Local Culture: The design incorporates patterns inspired by local Thai motifs, creating a
strong cultural connection. At night, the building’s silhouette reflects the traditional lifestyle of the area .

Drawbacks:
1. Weathering of Materials: While the design intentionally uses materials like raw concrete and untreated steel to change
with the seasons, this could lead to faster material degradation. Without chemical treatments or coatings, the materials
may require more maintenance over time to prevent excessive rusting or wear .
2. Potential Noise and Dust Issues: Although the perforated steel façade helps with ventilation, its ability to fully block
noise and dust from busy streets might not be sufficient in particularly noisy or polluted urban environments .

Overall, the DADFA Community Mall blends sustainability with cultural sensitivity, but the design’s reliance on
natural material weathering and exposure to elements may introduce long-term maintenance challenges.
