The Teachers
Include one for each school of magic, and each one belongs to a different race.
The Abjuration Teacher is Storven, a zombie that retained some magical skill even after dying
and being reanimated. He was an archmage with a talent for abjuration magic who dabbled in divination
in his youth. He dresses in black robes, and if asked why, will joke that they ‘match the color of my soul’.
At least, the other teachers hope he’s joking. No one can ever be sure, as most of his face has rotted
away and there is not enough left to determine what emotions he is experiencing.

His domicile is the hardest to break into, due to him having cast Arcane Lock on all the doors and
windows, along with the gate and all of his chests. He has also been casting Forbiddance on the building
long enough for the effect to be permanent. The building is unguarded, however, and so there is little
resistance for anyone who can get past these spells; the only remaining obstacle is the Symbol spell on
each and every one of his books, with the Death glyph.

Storven, despite his evil nature, will never harm students. This is because that when he joined the
school, he drafted and signed a contract stating that he would do his best to teach students well, and
would refrain from harming even the most annoying, “until my bones are dust scattered by the winds”.
Although he had originally phrased it in this way for pure dramatic effect, it does mean that the contract
is still in effect. His lawful nature prevents him from knowingly violating the contract, and he will hunt
down and kill anyone who makes him.

Of the other staff members, the only one he respects is Aloe Vera, although he is willing to work with
Narrak. He is quite antisocial and can only be found out and about when he is either teaching a class or
heading to the classroom to do so, except on Fridays, when he is visits Poros to discuss the benefits and
drawbacks of being an undead.

As a side note, he is unable to change his prepared spells in his undead state.
In combat, the first action he takes is to cast Imprisonment on whichever opponent appears physically
strongest. His second action is to cast Antimagic Field. Once Antimagic Field is up and running, he heads
straight toward whichever enemy caster has the most experience (as best as he can determine) and
begins whaling on them with his quarterstaff. When that caster dies, he then heads to the next caster,
and the next, until either all of them are dead or Antimagic Field runs out. If it is still running, he drops
Antimagic Field, and then casts Armor of Agathys using a seventh-level spell slot (35 temporary hit
points and cold damage). He then begins hitting his enemies with his quarterstaff, starting with the
physically strongest and working his way down. If they get rid of all of his temporary hit points, he
recasts Armor of Agathys with a sixth-level spell slot (30 temporary hit points and cold damage). If they
do so again, he recasts it with a fifth-level spell slot (25 temporary hit points and cold damage). He can
do this three times. If he has to do it again, he begins casting it as a first-level spell, trusting that his
opponents are weakened by now. Throughout any combat, he casts Counterspell at 3rd and 4th level to
block enemy spells of that level or lower, and uses Shield against any attacks that would hit him. He
never retreats from combat.
The Conjuration Teacher is a kobold named Nala. She is evil, but this mainly manifests as
cruelty and rudeness; she does not physically harm anyone unless they harm her first. This is due to her
extreme dedication to fairness, a trait possessed by all kobolds in her tribe. She is perfectly willing to
insult any and every detail about someone that she takes umbrage with, however.

She is always accompanied by her familiar (a pseudodragon) and her magical steed (a dragonnel).
These were created by the Find Familiar and Find Greater Steed spells, respectively. She has these spells
in her spellbook, although she does not ever prepare them unless she loses her familiar or steed.
Although the alignments of both of these creatures do not match her own, she has still formed a strong
bond with them and is infuriated if they are harmed, treating such as an attack on herself.

She dislikes Storven and Poros, as she is disgusted and a little creeped out by undead creatures. For
similar reasons, she dislikes Fester. She holds great respect for Aloe Vera, however, and will do anything
Aloe tells her to. She also has her own personal Demiplane rather than a building, which can make it
nearly as hard to break into her stuff as it is with Storven’s (more so, in fact, for lower-level characters
that can’t travel between planes).

She is willing to cast Wish for students, although she requires payment, either in gold or favors (with a
preference for the latter).
If combat breaks out, Nala summons allies, casting her spells in the following order:

 Conjure Celestial
 Conjure Fey
 Conjure Elemental
 Conjure Minor Elementals
 Conjure Woodland Beings
 Conjure Animals
 Wish*
*Used to cast Planar Ally, summoning a Pit Fiend called Nalthator

Next, she orders Nalthator to destroy her attackers, then casts Dimension Door and flees. Nalthator is
happy to kill things and does as she requests, waiving the normal fee for Planar Ally.
The Divination Teacher is a Kenku named Narrak. He knows some abjuration spells due to his
close friendship with Storven. He was Storven’s best friend before death and remains his friend even
now, despite the fact that Storven’s death means he no longer likes Narrak all that much. He had
actually warned Storven of his coming demise, but Storven laughed him off as paranoid, and only
reluctantly agreed to flee if things looked bad for him. In the end, Storven was unable to flee, as his
opponents had managed to trick him into following them to Carceri, the prison plane.

Narrak has a permanent Symbol (Death glyph) on all entrances to his house. He also has the same
variety of Symbol spell protecting his books and the chests he has inside the house. Otherwise, it is
unguarded.

Narrak is quite kind and warns students about the Symbol spells protecting his house. He is also willing
to use any of his spells of first through fifth level on a student’s behalf for free, as long as it does not use
his last slot of that level. Despite this, however, Storven’s comment about Narrak being paranoid is
accurate, which is why he has the Symbol spells at all. This paranoia also causes him to cast Mind Blank
on himself at the beginning of every day.
Narrak avoids combat if he can, but if he must fight, he casts Hunter’s Mark (using a fifth level spell
slot) on his opponent and then slowly backs up, staying within 80 feet of them and firing his light
crossbow on subsequent turns. If the opponent closes to 30 feet, Narrak Dashes away until the
opponent is at least 110 feet away from him, then returns to his normal tactics. He calls for help the
whole time he is engaged in combat.
The Enchantment Teacher is a human named Zanari. She has absolutely no morality
whatsoever, but she does not go out of her way to be cruel or hurt people. In fact, she goes out of her
way to avoid hurting people, with the exception of bar fights. She always does her best to win a bar
fight, and does everything short of committing murder in order to succeed. She has only two interests:
Bar fights and making friends. She often (subtly) uses Crown of Madness to initiate a bar fight. She uses
Hold Person as a punishment for misbehaving students; she tells them to go stand in a corner and then
casts it on them while they are walking there, causing them to fall on their face in front of the entire
class.

She likes all of the other teachers, but the only one she ever listens to is Aloe Vera, largely due to fear
of the dragon. She could technically cast Dominate Monster on Aloe Vera if she didn’t want to listen, but
she is afraid of what Aloe Vera would do if the spell did not work.
If Zanari is in a real fight, she casts Hold Person on her opponent, followed up with a Fireball. She uses
Fireball again two times, and then casts Power Word Pain on her opponent. If it has no effect, she uses a
sixth level spell slot to cast Fireball again; after this, she casts Power Word Kill on her opponent. If that
doesn’t work, she casts Dominate Monster on them and orders them to leave.

In a bar fight, Zanari opens with Crown of Madness on the person in the room who is surrounded by
the most people. She does this two more times (choosing the next most surrounded each time), and
then starts casting Enemies Abound instead. After that, if someone hits her, she moves up to them and
punches them if they are within 30 feet, otherwise she throws an Improvised Weapon at them, moving
first if necessary.
The Evocation Teacher is an adult red dragon named Arveiamourn (nicknamed Aloe Vera by
Nala). Although chaotic evil, she does not harm students; like most red dragons, she is quite vain, and so
she keeps them alive in the hope that she can get them to worship her, or at the very least respect her
and acknowledge her might.

She has less spells than the other teachers, but they are significantly harder to dodge or resist.
Although she only has one evocation spell (Rime’s Binding Ice), she can use her Fire Breath to help
demonstrate, as it is a suitable replacement for spells like Fireball if it is aimed right.

Aloe Vera is unique among red dragons for both her interest in manipulating smaller creatures and
her skill at it. She can easily spot most lies, and her own lies are nearly impossible to detect. In addition,
she is quite good at intimidating others or persuading them to see things her way. Interestingly enough,
she is also a wonderful singer, and tends to like students who notice this and point it out.

The only other teacher Aloe Vera likes is Zanari. They get along about as well as they possibly could.
If Aloe ends up in a fight, she begins by using her Fire Breath, maneuvering beforehand to catch as
many enemies as possible in it. Next turn, she uses Summon Draconic Spirit (choosing the Chromatic
option) to bring in an ally to aid her. After that, she uses Rime’s Binding Ice, maneuvering to catch as
many enemies as possible in it. On her fourth turn, she casts Raulothim’s Psychic Lance on whichever
opponent seems the least intelligent. She then uses her Multiattack on whichever enemy seems to be in
the worst shape by this point. She continues to do this until her concentration is out on Summon
Draconic Spirit. At that point, she casts Nathair’s Mischief wherever it will affect the most opponents,
and then returns to using her Multiattack on the weakest enemies. When her concentration on
Nathair’s Mischief runs out, she casts Ashardalon’s Stride and begins running past as many different
opponents as possible. She continues to do this on future turns, Multiattacking the weakest opponent
she passes by. She uses her Legendary Resistance whenever she fails an Intelligence saving throw during
this fight. In addition, she uses Fire Breath instead of Multiattack whenever it is available, maneuvering
to catch as many enemies as possible in the blast. She flees when reduced to 65 HP.
The Illusion Teacher is a skeleton who goes by the name Poros. No one at the school knows if
that is his real name except for Snarrlax. He is always accompanied by a Simulacrum of Aloe Vera. The
one confirmed truth he has spoken is when he told her he created it as a gesture of respect (showing
that he believed she was the most powerful creature at the school).

Poros is in a similar situation to Storven, where he cannot bring himself to harm students unprovoked,
due to a contract that his lawful nature causes him to obey. Storven is actually one of Poros’ friends, and
they meet every Friday. Poros, as stated above, respects Aloe Vera. His other friend (and the only other
person he respects) is Snarrlax.

Poros likes to disguise himself as students and talk to them, or spy on them while invisible. He never
uses his other spells for silly things like this; he saves them for when he needs them.
Poros begins combat by casting Illusory Dragon. He follows up with Weird, maneuvering to be able to
get all enemies with the spell, and then, on his next turn, casts Mental Prison on his most dangerous
opponent. He then uses Mislead to ensure his safety (as if the Aloe Vera Simulacrum didn’t do that…).
He casts Phantasmal Killer on his next three turns, followed by level three Phantasmal Force spells, and
then level two Phantasmal Force spells. After that, he uses his Shortbow if his enemies are out of melee
range; otherwise, he casts Shillelagh and begins beating them to death with his staff. He never retreats.
The Necromancy Teacher is Fester, who belongs to a race called the ‘Deathbound’. They
have an innate connection to death and necromancy magic, and go through extreme training to allow
them to cast their spells effectively even in combat. They are quite used to working with the undead,
and are actually led by a Lich. Flameskulls can often be found accompanying members of this race.

Fester’s weapon of choice is the Rapier, as it is a one-handed weapon that is on par with a longsword
that nevertheless allows for a degree of finesse when wielding it. Brute force is not Fester’s strong suit,
and so this weapon suits him particularly well, especially since his training means it does not interfere
with his spellcasting.

Fester’s home on the school grounds is guarded by ten Zombies at the gate, and patrolled by four
Flameskulls inside. There is also a Crawling Claw in his library that does its best to keep his books
organized and protected. His basement contains seven Wights and three Specters that are under their
control. He has no control over the Wights (and their Specters) but the Zombies are bound to him
permanently and the Crawling Claw is his familiar. The Flameskulls’ orders prevent them from harming
him or his house.

Fester respects Storven and Poros for being able to retain their spellcasting ability despite having been
turned into undead that are normally weak, and respects Aloe Vera for her physical might.
In combat, Fester will start by casting False Life on himself using his nineth level spell slot. On future
turns he does his best to end his opponents without using his spell slots (until he is reduced to 49 HP):

First, he moves towards his closest opponent.

Then, if he has not reached them, he casts Ray of Enfeeblement on them.

If he has reached them, then he casts Inflict Wounds on them.

Once he is reduced to 49 HP, he casts Abi-Dalzim’s Horrid Wilting, maneuvering to catch as many
enemies as possible in its area of effect. He then casts Finger of Death on whichever enemy looks
weakest (currently). He then spends his turns moving to melee range with the nearest enemy (if there is
a tie, he goes for the weakest), and casts Vampiric Touch on them using the highest-level spell slot he
has available. If he can’t reach them on his turn, he casts Ray of Enfeeblement on the opponent he just
moved towards.
The Transmutation Teacher is Snarrlax, a Simic Hybrid from the world of Ravnica. His
Telekinesis, combined with his ability to climb, swim, and breathe underwater has led to him being the
‘guy who builds everything’. Catapult has its place in construction as well, and if necessary, Snarrlax can
use True Polymorph to become a Cloud Giant, allowing him to lift most building materials by himself,
and giving him the height to reach tall locations.

He is happy to predict the weather for anyone who asks, using his Druidcraft cantrip. He can also clean
objects using Prestidigitation, and will honor requests for private communication using Message.

Snarrlax’s house is protected by a total of twenty-five Awakened Velociraptors spread between the
inside of the house and the outside. They are potty-trained, and even if they weren’t Prestidigitation
would take care of any messes. He also transformed a twenty-sixth raptor into a cat, which he then
Awakened. Its name is Bigglesworth, and it is now his familiar.

As a side note, Snarrlax casts Catapult on encyclopedias and hurls them at misbehaving students.
There are very few students who have stomachs bigger than Snarrlax’s encyclopedias, much less heads
(which is where he aims).
In combat, Snarrlax casts Animal Shapes on his opponents, turning them into spiders, and then calls
over his velociraptors and feeds his foolish attackers to them. As a back-up plan, he turns into a young
red dragon (using True Polymorph) and begins eviscerating anyone the spell didn’t take hold on.
The Abjuration Students

Abjuration magic is protective in nature, and so these students (along with the diviners) are the least
aggressive in and out of combat situations. They tend to not be evil, but are not necessarily good either.
They vary from brutish warriors who block the attacks of others, to support-team style students who
focus on aiding others, to an assassin-in-training or two; there is even an Orc whose spellcasting ability is
directed towards protecting a specific location.

The Abjuration Students include:

Ahop, a Harengon

Amber, a Mountain Dwarf

Dain, a Hill Dwarf

Ixmiir, a Sapphire Dragonborn

Jora, a Goliath

Reed, a Stout Halfling

Shautha, a Half-Orc

Tirion, an Earth Genasi

Nelrathus, a Hobgoblin

Quari, a Lizardfolk

Gell, an Orc

Cary, a Tortle

Zeori, a Leonin

Abarken, a Dwarf from Kaladesh

Nim, an Elf from Zendikar, of the Tujuru nation

Dungar, a Mark of Warding Dwarf from Eberron

Maxima, a Mark of Sentinel Human from Eberron

Their teacher is Storven, a zombie.

Ixmiir is a sapphire dragonborn who chose to specialize in abjuration magic so that she could
better protect her friends. She accomplishes this by focusing on spells that she can either cast on others,
or that have a wide area of effect that can include her allies. She has also learned some basic first aid, in
the hope that it will allow her to keep her friends on their feet longer. Ixmiir considers Ahop to be her
best friend, and they often team up in competitions of any sort.
By the end of her training, Ixmiir has accomplished her goal. Prismatic Wall blocks enemies from
hurting her friends, and Globe of Invulnerability can do the same. Aura of Life, Beacon of Hope, and
Circle of Power provide benefits to all nearby allies, and Warding Bond, Sanctuary, and Resistance allow
her to protect specific allies even more. She can also use Symbol to protect the area they are all resting
in. She can also aid in combat by using Gem Flight to maneuver to catch a large number of enemies with
her Debilitating Breath.
Dain Brawnanvil is a hill dwarf who chose to study abjuration magic after noticing that a lot of
the spells his father (a dwarven cleric) casts were abjuration spells. His non-spell related studies focus on
religion, so that he can better understand what his father is talking about. Abjuration also made sense as
a choice to Dain because his father always told him that truly good people protect those who cannot
protect themselves. Dain spends a lot of time with Reed, trying to discuss religion. He thinks that Reed is
just shy, and that is why he doesn’t talk much during the conversations.
At the end of his training, Dain Brawnanvil’s spellcasting ability and knowledge of religion rival even his
father’s. He is also easily able to protect weak allies, with Death Ward and Prismatic Wall being the best
spells for this (and possibly Shield of Faith). Lesser Restoration and Greater Restoration allow him to aid
an ally suffering deleterious effects, and Dispel Magic can be used to clear “debuff” spells from allies.
Holy Aura is an excellent spell for him, as it allows him to empower nearby allies and punish nearby
enemies. Forbiddance and Symbol allow him to protect any location where he and his allies are resting.
Amber Gurunn is a mountain dwarf who chose to specialize in abjuration because she believes
that having a strong defensive advantage will help her apply her offensive skill effectively. Blade Ward,
Armor of Agathys and her high armor class of 17 allow her to avoid most hits and easily weather the few
she does take. Her skill with her Handaxe, as well as her athletic capability, allow her to easily fight both
in melee battles and at range. Her relatively weak spellcasting ability does not affect any of her spells.
Amber is impressed with Tirion Stoneheart, but he is not interested in making any friends.
Amber Gurunn can now use Aid and Freedom of Movement to counter negative effects and conditions,
and Counterspell to block dangerous magic entirely. Planar Binding is best used stealthily, to steal a
summoned creature from an enemy caster. Guards and Wards combined with Symbol allows for an
extremely well-defended camp, and Armor of Agathys combined with Prismatic Wall and Blade Ward
offers significant defense for Amber (or allies). Antimagic Field is used when fighting enemy casters;
Amber casts it and then closes to melee range and begins utilizing her Handaxe.
Reed Tealeaf is a stout halfling that learned abjuration magic to aid in his lie of being a priest. He
makes money off of people by requesting “donations to the church”, but, before learning magic, had to
convince people he was a priest by wearing a vestments and holy symbol, and selling holy water (that
he actually did acquire legally), along with potions of healing (that were brewed for him by a druid
friend). This was reasonably convincing, but he thought being able to cast clerical spells would make him
a much more convincing priest. The first bit of magic he picked up was the Resistance cantrip, which is
not especially clerical, and the Ceremony spell, which is ONLY available to clerics, thus cementing his lie.

Reed is friends with Dain Brawnanvil, and he is trying to figure out how to break the news that he isn’t
actually religious to his friend. He would never tell anyone else, but Dain’s honest friendship is making
Reed feel guilty, and he feels he has to tell Dain.
Shautha is a half-orc who chose abjuration because she saw her orc father (a warlock) use Armor of
Agathys in battle and realized it’s potential. Now, it and Blade Ward are the only spells she is interested
in using, focusing her studies on learning more and more powerful versions of Armor of Agathys. She
does not quite possess the intelligence to try and learn more spells, and knows this one works anyways.

She has a budding friendship with Jora the goliath.

Shautha is very unlikely to run out of castings of Armor of Agathys, but is also very unlikely to surprise
other students in a fight. Luckily, she has the health and strength to do quite well in melee combat,
which is where her (two) spells have the most effect. The 9th level version of Armor of Agathys means
that most opponents can only safely get one hit off on her, and are unlikely to actually hurt her instead
of her magical armor. Her skill with Athletics makes her a good climber and swimmer, as well as giving
her an advantage when grappling or shoving opponents. Savage Attacks has the potential to make her
Quarterstaff attacks particularly fearsome, and Relentless Endurance gives her the potential to take a
normally fatal blow and shrug it off, refreshing Armor of Agathys to ensure it does not happen again.
Tirion Stoneheart is an earth genasi who was born to a human mother in the Elemental Chaos.
His mother was an assassin, and he chose to specialize in abjuration due to the number of spells
available in it that complemented the style of an assassin. His only wish is to follow in his mother’s
footsteps.
By the end of his time learning abjuration magic, Tirion has become quite the assassin. His Stealth skill is
impressive enough even without the boost (+10) from Pass Without Trace, and his Banishing
Smite/Heavy Crossbow combo can really bring the hurt to whatever poor soul he’s hunting (36 average
damage). Nondetection makes it easier to sneak up on diviners, and Freedom Of Movement ensures he
can always escape, or follow a target that tries to do the same. Mage Armor makes him quite difficult to
land a hit on. Blade Ward is only ever cast using Merge With Stone, but serves its purpose if the target
fights back.
Jora Snowwalker is a goliath who chose abjuration magic because of all the schools of magic, it
seemed to be the one most suited to a melee combatant (which is what she thinks of herself as). It
complements her goliath nature well, and doesn’t require her to change her “bash them until they stop
fighting back” method of combat. Jora and Shautha are friends.
By the end of her schooling, Jora is able to both be able to resist the effects of most spells (through her
Protection spells and Stoneskin, along with her natural goliath resistance) and defend herself in non-
magical combat (through Shield, Armor of Agathys, and Prismatic Wall). She can also shut down enemy
spellcasters well enough with Counterspell and Antimagic Field.
Ahop Andaskip is a harengon with exceptional skill with a dagger. He already fancied himself
sneaky, so abjuration’s Pass Without Trace was quite appealing to him. Mage Armor helps him dodge
blades and arrows, and Resistance combos with his Lucky Footwork to make it easy for him to dodge
dragons’ breath weapons, Fireballs, and the like. Ahop is friends with Ixmiir, and often teams up with
her.
By the end of his schooling, if Ahop doesn’t dodge something, that will surprise anyone who knows him.
He is also as sneaky as Tirion (although Tirion would never agree). His Rabbit Hop allows him to get onto
the roofs of buildings, and Hare-Trigger combines with his extraordinary dexterous capability to allow
him to get the jump on most opponents.
Nelrathus is a hobgoblin who gained the name “Silvertongue” from his innate charm and skill at
Performance. He chose to learn abjuration magic because his father, Sarnoff Entiro, has the ability to
cast Guidance, Resistance, and Shield of Faith, and Nelrathus wanted to follow in his footsteps.
Nelrathus will not learn any new spells, and intends to just learn how to cast Shield of Faith as many
times as possible. He is friends with Ahop, and always tries to team up with him and Ixmiir. He invites
Quari to join them, since he has noticed her watching Ixmiir on several occasions, looking as if she
wanted to talk but didn’t know what to say. He would encourage her to talk, but he doesn’t know her
well enough to guess how she would take advice from him. He calls his weapon of choice “Melodic
Slicer”; it is a violin with an axe blade attached to the bottom, and is reinforced with steel all over. It
creates a high-pitched sound that hurts the ears of people too close to it, but that sounds beautiful from
farther away. Nelrathus sometimes sneaks into Aloe Vera’s classes to see if he can pick up some
knowledge on performance from listening to her (sometimes she sings to help things stick in her
student’s minds – a favorite is “Play with Fire”). He also tries to talk to Zanari, but she is always busy and
never has time to talk to him.
Nelrathus can now cast Shield of Faith nine times before needing to rest; otherwise, he is much the
same as he was upon arriving at the school.
Quari Huntmaster is a lizardfolk who opted to study abjuration magic because the black dragon
she aids (who asked her to go to school) employs the spells Blade Ward and Armor of Agathys, so she
decided to study those two spells to impress him. She has found a new friend at school: Ixmiir, who also
has draconic blood. Well, Quari is interested in being friends, but is too shy to tell Ixmiir so. Nelrathus
has been kind to her, and she considers him a friend.
After several months at school, Quari can now cast Armor of Agathys nine times per day, at several
levels of strength. She is also excellent at setting up ambushes, due to her skill at Perception and Stealth
allowing her to notice enemies long before they notice her, and her Acrobatics skill combines well with
her ability to swim and hold her breath for long periods of time to allow her to more easily hide. She is
not in as good shape as some other students, however, and prefers quick, hit-and-run attacks to drawn-
out fights. Armor of Agathys offers her some protection if forced into the latter, however.
Gell is an orc who chose abjuration magic as his object of study because his mother always taught him
that a strong defense can weaken your enemies and leave them weak and easy to finish off, and
abjuration has many spells to allow him to create a strong defense. He has noticed that Amber is also
studying some such spells (although they are high level, and it will be a while before either of them can
cast those spells). He is debating whether it’s even worth trying to ask a dwarf to be an orc’s teammate.
After a lot of training, Gell is both physically mighty and able to create an extremely strong defense with
his spells (Alarm, Arcane Lock, Glyph of Warding, Mordenkainen’s Private Sanctum, Guards and Wards,
Symbol). He can cast Glyph of Warding at 3rd, 5th, 8th, and 9th level, allowing him to better protect certain
parts of his “base” or camp.
Cary “Castle” Estel is a tortle who literally rolled the dice on what school of magic she would
practice and got abjuration. She intends to learn spells that apply to a variety of things rather than just
focusing on one kind like some of the other students do. She doesn’t really make friends; she just
randomly chooses teams. However, once she has decided to help a team, she goes all out and truly does
her best.
Cary now has the most diverse selection of spells seen among the abjuration students. Blade Ward,
Shield of Faith, and Prismatic Wall are defensive spells used in combat; Guards and Wards and Symbol
are non-combat defensive spells. Banishing Smite and Antimagic Field are both offensive combat spells,
and Beacon of Hope and Aura of Purity are ally-buffing spells. Cary is also quite knowledgeable about
natural creatures, which could come in handy. She can also serve as a “tank” for her allies. She has
finally made a real friend: Zeori, a leonin who has a similarly diverse selection of spells.
Zeori Embereye is a leonin who chose to learn abjuration magic because all of the spells her
people normally learn (Protection from Evil and Good, Dispel Magic, Dispel Evil and Good, and Antimagic
Field) are abjuration spells. In addition, she thought it would be easy to pretend to be a cleric if she
chose abjuration, which would be useful for assassinating overly zealous “champions of the gods”.
After all of her practice and training, Zeori has simultaneously managed to both learn all of the spells
common to her people and mimic a cleric quite well. She is both athletic and sneaky, and is hard to
sneak up on herself. As from the beginning, she is reasonably well armored. She still lacks any degree of
charm, however. Zeori made friends with a tortle called Cary, as they both noticed that they had the
most adaptable spell selections and decided they made a good team.
Abarken Finesmith is a dwarf from the world of Kaladesh who chose abjuration because it
would best allow him to protect his friends. He tries to take the hits from his friends so they can do…
whatever they do. I mean, he doesn’t exactly have friends yet, but he’s certainly going to try to make
some!
Nim Hanali is an elf from Zendikar. She belongs to the Tajuru nation, and was assigned to
abjuration by the teachers, instead of choosing a school for herself. The reason for this is because she
already knew Resistance and Protection from Evil and Good upon arriving at school. No one knows how
or why, and this is just about the one topic Nim won’t talk about. She tends to hang out with Abarken,
since they both don’t have friends, but they are both too self-conscious to talk or do much together.
By the end of her training, Nim has learned that it is better for her to rely on her many skills than on her
magic. As for that magic, beyond learning all the Protection spells, there is not much cohesiveness to her
choices, and nothing can be gleaned from her spell selection. She has decided to try and find a friend
outside of the abjuration class, since none of the abjuration students want to be her friend. Abarken
used to be on her team, but now he hangs out with Amber and Dain instead.
Dungar d’Kundarak is a dwarf from the world of Eberron with a Mark of Warding. His specialty
is the Alarm spell, but he knows Blade Ward and Mage Armor too, making him well-suited to abjuration.
Dungar has the impressive ability to cast both Alarm and Arcane Lock twice before needing to recover
his magical energy. He also still has a spell for every level possible. He has a lot of spells suited to
defending a location, but has Mage Armor and Blade Ward for emergencies.
Maxima d’Deneith is a human from Eberron with the Mark of Sentinel. She chose abjuration as her
specialty since the spell granted by her Dragonmark (Shield) is an abjuration spell. She came to school
after her parents died, because the only thing left from their lives is a single notebook from Maxima’s
mother containing a spell Maxima does not recognize. Maxima’s mother was a druid, so she suspects
that is the origin of the spell: druidic magic.
After a lot of studying, Maxima has confirmed the spell and its origin: it is indeed a druid spell, and it is
called Druid Grove. It apparently was discovered at the school a while back, but none of the students
know the spell. Maxima also picked up the Imprisonment spell, which none of the other abjuration
students learned (but Storven knows it).
The Conjuration Students
The conjuration students are not directly aggressive; their spells are more about mobility and
summoning minions than direct attacks (although they do possess some of the latter). They can,
however, summon a wide range of creatures that are suited to direct attacks.

The conjuration students include:
