ASSERTION-REASON BASED QUESTIONS
In the following questions, a statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a
statement of Reason (R).
Choose the correct answer out of the following choices.
(a) Both (A) and (R) are true and (R) is the correct explanation of (A).
(b) Both (A) and (R) are true but (R) is not the correct explanation of (A).
(c) (A) is true but (R) is false.
(d) (A) is false but (R) is true.
7. Assertion(A): Let A be a non-empty set such that 𝑛(𝐴 × 𝐴) = 16.
If (1,2), (3,4) ∈ 𝐴 × 𝐴, then 𝐴 = {1,2,3,4}. 1
Reason (R): If A and B are finite sets, then 𝑛(𝐴 × 𝐵) = 𝑛(𝐴) × 𝑛(𝐵).
8. Assertion(A): If A = {1, {2, 3},4, 5}, then {2,4}⊂ 𝐴.
1
Reason (R): If A and B are disjoint sets then 𝐴 ∩ 𝐵 = ∅.

functions to the students. In order to check their understanding after the class she give
them a question to solve. (1+1+1+1)
Let A and B be two sets such that 𝐴 = {1,2,3,4,5} and 𝐵 = {1,4,7,10}.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) Write a relation R from A to B defined by
𝑅 = {(𝑥, 𝑦): y is divisible by 𝑥, 𝑥 ∈ 𝐴, 𝑦 ∈ 𝐵} in roster form.
(ii) Find the domain and range of R.
(iii) Write the number of functions that can be defined from A to B.
(iv) Find the linear relation between the components of the ordered pairs
of the relation R where 𝑅 = { (2,1), (3,4), (4,7), (5,10)}.
