Risks
By inhalation : Inhalation of high concentration may cause difficulties in breathing, headache
and when accumulated in body may create irreversible nerve damage.
By oral intake : May cause oral toxicity.
By dermal contact : Repeated contact may cause skin irritation.
B.A HANDLING OF WASTE
Personal Protective Equipment
Gloves : Wear nitrile gloves
Mask : Face mask
Respirator : Wear respirator in case of ventilation is not working properly
Goggles : Use goggles if there is a risk of splash of liquid
Shoes : Wear safety shoe
Face Shield : Not required
Procedures/Precautions in Handling, Packaging, Transporting and Storage
Handling : Handling of waste shall be conducted with adequate ventilation, dry and wearing
appropriate PPE. Avoid inhalation of dust and contact with eyes.
Packaging : Use jumbo bag/ drum / bulk container / jerry can / carboy
Transporting : Use forklift or other appropriate equipment to lift the waste. Engage licensed
contractor when transporting waste from outside the premises
Storage : All waste shall be closed properly. Stored in dry and well ventilation area and
also away from direct sunlight and other sources of heat and ignition

C. PRECAUTIONS IN CASE OF SPILL OR ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE CAUSING PERSONAL INJURY
In Case of Inhalation of Fumes or Oral Intake
Symptoms of : Difficulties breathing and dizziness.

Appropriate first aid : Inhalation – remove to fresh air. If difficult breathing or refractory, get medical
attention immediately
: Oral Intake – Give plenty of water to dilute. Avoid vomiting. Never give anything
by mouth to an unconscious person. Get medical attention immediately.
Guidelines for : Give respiratory support as needed and treat symptomatically

In Case of Dermal Contact or Contact with Eyes
Symptoms of : Skin and eyes irritation

Appropriate first aid : Skin – Remove contaminated clothing and wash affected skin with water. Flush
with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately
: Eye – Lifting lower and upper eyelids occasionally and rinse out with plenty of
water for at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention immediately.

D. STEPS TO BE TAKEN IN CASE OF SPILL OR ACCIDENTAL DISCHARGE CAUSING MATERIAL DAMAGE
ARISING FROM
Spill on Floor, Soil, : Eliminate all sources of ignition. Keep unnecessary personnel away from spill
Road etc area. Ventilate area of spill and use appropriate PPE. Keep out of drains, sewers
or waterways. Clean preferably with absorbent and transfer waste to suitable
containers for recovery or disposal.
Spill into Water : Prevent from spreading by shutting the source of spillage. Wear an appropriate
PPE. Isolate hazard area. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from
entering. Contain and recover waste when possible. Transfer wastes into suitable
container for recovery or disposal.
Fire : Isolate hazard area. Keep unnecessary and unprotected personnel from
entering. Wear full protective clothing including self-contained positive pressure or
pressure demand breathing apparatus. Extinguish fire with ABC powder. Avoid
breathing smoke. Contain and recover waste when possible. Collect all
contaminated material and clean the contaminated area.
Explosion : No potential of self explosion.
Note: In the event of any spill or accidental discharge of any scheduled waste during transportation, the contractor shall
immediately inform the occurrence to the Director General of Department of Environment (DOE) and the relevant
authorities (Fire & Rescue Services and the Police) as necessary.
