Part 1: Read and Understand

What is Softball?

Softball is a team sport that is similar to baseball. It is played between two teams of nine players. The game is
usually played on a field with four bases: first base, second base, third base, and home plate. One team bats while
the other team plays defense. The goal is to score more runs than the other team by hitting the ball and running
around all four bases.

A softball is larger than a baseball, and the field is smaller. The ball is pitched underhand, and each game is usually
played in seven innings. There are different positions in softball such as pitcher, catcher, first baseman, shortstop,
and outfielders.

Softball teaches teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. It is also a fun and exciting sport for players of all ages.
