Descriptive Question Bank – Robotics
and Automation (Module 1)
Based on Bloom’s Taxonomy levels (BL1–BL4), here is a set of possible descriptive-type
questions framed from Module 1: Fundamentals of Robot Technology, Control Systems and
Components.
Bloom’s Level 1 – Remembering
1. Define robot anatomy and list its main components.
2. What is meant by degree of freedom (DOF) in a robot? Explain with an example.
3. Write short notes on the four types of robot joints: Linear, Rotational, Twisting, and
Revolving.
Bloom’s Level 2 – Understanding
4. Differentiate between polar, cylindrical, Cartesian, and jointed-arm robot
configurations with neat sketches.
5. Explain the LERT classification of robot motions with suitable examples.
6. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of polar coordinate robots.
Bloom’s Level 3 – Applying
7. Derive the equations of motion for a single-joint robot considering inertia, damping,
stiffness, and gravity.
8. Illustrate how sensors and actuators work together to control the motion of a robot
manipulator.
9. Apply the concepts of control system analysis to determine the stability of a second-
order robotic joint system.
Bloom’s Level 4 – Analyzing
10. Compare the performance of on–off, proportional, and PID controllers for robotic
joint position control.
11. Analyze the effects of poles and zeros on the dynamic response of a robotic control
system.
12. Examine the role of internal vs external sensors in ensuring safe operation and
accurate performance of robots.
