The Unreal Past is used to talk about situations that are If I were you, I would + base verb.
hypothetical, imaginary, or contrary to reality in the present,

1. When to Use the Unreal Past - If I had a car, I could drive to school.
- To talk about unreal or hypothetical situations in the present or

- To give advice using 'If I were you'.
