LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS

GRADE 3 - FAITH

I. Learning Objectives

At least 75% of the student must able to:

A. Identify the place value and value of a digit in a numeral.

B. Appreciate the importance of place value in understanding numbers.

C.Perform to write numbers neatly and correctly, aligning digits according to their place value.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Place Value

B. Materials:Place value chart ,Base-ten blocks,Markers,Chart paper.

C. References: K-12 Curriculum Guide Grade 3 Math page 1-4

III. Procedure

A. Preparatory Activity

1. Motivation:

The teacher will show a picture of a pizza, and give a scenario such as ordering
pizza. The teacher will ask the students how many pizzas they would order for
their class.

Ask some students to write the number of pizzas on the board.


The teacher will ask the following questions:

■ What is the digit in the tens place?


■ What is the value of the digit in ones place?

B. Developmental Activities

1. Presentation:

The teacher will introduce the concept of place value using a place value chart.

The teacher will explain the value of each place: ones, tens, hundreds, and thousands.

Place value is the value of a digit in a number based on its place or position.
These positions start from the ones place (units place). Its order starting from
the extreme right to the left is ones/units (1s), tens (10s), hundreds (100s),
thousands (1,000s)

2. Analysis and Discussion:

The teacher will present number problems and ask students to identify the place
value of each digit.

Directions: Look at the number below. Identify the place value of the underlined
digit and write its value.

2. 6720
3. 8732
4. 3093
5. 5920

3. Generalization:

The teacher will ask the students the following questions:

Does the value of a digit depend on its position in a number?

How many place values did we talk about? And what are those?

C. Post Activities

1. Application:

Activity 1. Identify the Place Value:

● In the number 4,567:


○ What is the digit in the hundreds place?
○ What is the value of the digit in the thousands place?

Activity 2.Write the Number:

● Write the number that has:


○ 3 thousands, 5 hundreds, 2 tens, and 7 ones.
○ 8 thousands, 0 hundreds, 9 tens, and 1 one.

2. Values Integration:

The teacher will ask the students the following questions:

● How does understanding place value help us add and subtract numbers?
● Why is place value important when multiplying numbers?
● How can we use place value to compare two numbers?
IV. Evaluation

The teacher will give a quiz for the students.
