Programming Contest
ELIGIBILITY </> Contest
Contestants must be currently enrolled at Iloilo Science and Technology University for
the 1st Semester of School Year 2025–2026. Contestants may present valid proof of
official enrollment.

PROGRAMMING COMPETITION RULES


1. This is an individual contest.
2. Each contestant will be provided with a single PC. There will be five (5) programming problems with varying
point values based on difficulty: Easy – 5 points, Medium – 10 points, Hard – 15 points.
Contestants must solve all five programming problems within two (2) hours.
3. During the contest, organizers will address and clarify problem statements as needed.
4. The contest is scheduled to last for two (2) hours; however, organizers reserve the right
to shorten or extend the duration in the event of unforeseen circumstances.
5. Only C/C++ and Java programming languages are allowed for this competition.
6. Programs must accept input and produce output unless otherwise specified in the
problem statement.
7. Programs must produce output in the exact format specified (e.g., no extra whitespace,
correct letter casing, exact indentation, etc.).
8. In the event of a tie in total points, the following criteria will be applied in order.
a. Highest Difficulty Problem Solved – The contestant who solved the hardest
problem (worth the most points) ranks higher.
b. Earliest Completion Time – If still tied, the contestant who completed all solved
problems in the shortest total time will rank higher.
9. Contestants are expected to always display sportsmanlike conduct. Organizers reserve
the right to disqualify any contestant who exhibits disruptive, unethical, or
unsportsmanlike behavior.
10.Any form of cheating or activity that jeopardizes the fairness of the contest will result in
immediate disqualification.
11.Clarifications regarding the rules may be requested prior to the start of the contest.

COVERAGE OF THE PROGRAMMING PROBLEMS


1. File Handling – Reading from/Writing to Text Files or Data Files
2. Advanced String/Character Manipulations - Splitting of sentence into words, searching
and comparing of strings, recognizing uppercase letter or lowercase, splitting of string
into characters, recognizing a valid letter in the alphabet, etc.
3. Array Manipulations – Using of one-dimensional or two-dimensional arrays in the
program.
4. Iterations or Looping (for loop, while loop, etc.)
5. Recursion – Using recursive method or recursive function in the program
6. Conversion of character value into integer value (vice versa).
Example: ‘1’ is a character value must be converted to 1 as integer value.
7. Conversion of string value to integer value (vice versa).
Example: “12” is a string value must be converted to 12 as integer value.
8. Number System Conversion. Example: Hexa to Decimal (vice versa), Binary to Decimal
(vice versa), Decimal to Octal (vice versa), Hexa to Octal (vice versa), etc.
