Discipline Rules and Regulations
In order that every student enjoys and contributes in creating and maintaining
a congenial environment on the campus, students are expected t o be aware of
their d u t i e s a n d responsibilities, behave in an orderly manner on all occasions,
maintain discipline and obey rules of the University (notified from time to time). As
an adult, students are expected to have a fair sense of legal a n d i l l e g a l acts
a n d conduct themselves in such a manner that shows respect to the rights of others
inside the campus. Their conduct, both inside and outside should be befitting
t h e r e p u t e of the university.
Student Discipline Committee (SDC)
As approved by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, JK Lakshmipat University, the Students
Discipline Committee (SDC) of the University consists of the following ex-officio and
other members:

The breach of discipline will encompass:
• Physical and verbal assault to any employee or student of the University
• Damage to University Property and/or attempts to damage University
property, or others property.
• Theft, including theft of Institute property or personal property of others such
as computers, computer accessories, street signs, furniture and library books,
mobile phones etc.
• Forgery, including forging signatures
• Misrepresentation in seeking financial aid or other Institute benefit.
• Misuse of Institute computer equipment or e-mail/internet
• Sending threatening and obscene messages via e-mail, phone or voice-mail.
• Harsh driving on campus and driving without helmet into or out of University
• Parking at unauthorized places
• Smoking/consumption of alcohol/drugs on the campus, chewing of pan
masala/gutka. Found intoxicated or drugged inside the campus.
• Resorting to fighting/physical manhandling with fellow students, getting into
an altercation, misbehaving with fellow students both boys as well as girls,
eve-teasing, being disrespectful to faculty or staff of the university and
misbehaving with any of them etc.
• Involved in any act of activity under the category of Ragging
• Act of indiscipline related to cybercrime
• Violating Institute’s rules and Regulations
• Any such other act of unseemly behavior.
Detailing of the Rules:
1. Students should comply with the time of University and hostels.
If student is out of the University due to any personal/professional reason,
he/she shall not be absent from the University campus after 9 pm (Female
student)/11 pm (Male student) without the prior permission of the
Warden/Chief Warden.
A students shall not remain absent from their Hostels after 11.30 pm (Sunday-
Friday)/ 12 pm (Saturday) without the prior permission of the Warden/Chief
Warden.
A students shall not remain absent from their room of hostels after 12 pm
(Sunday-Friday)/ 12:30 am (Saturday) without the prior permission of the
Warden/Chief Warden.
In case of any emergency, they should take written permission from the Chief
Warden/concerned Block Warden. The students are required to carry their
identity cards with them when they move inside the campus.
2. The institute solicits simplicity and modesty in the behavior and dress in order to
foster a congenial academic atmosphere. JKLU being a Co-Educational institute,
a decent dress is compulsory. This is being a sensitive issue; we expect the
students and parents to understand.
3. All students are answerable to the university authorities for their conduct and
behavior. Insubordination of any kind and use of unbecoming language or
conduct are important reasons for dismissal.
4. Classroom discipline should be maintained and following things are prohibited
Use of mobile phones (even in silent mode)
Misbehavior with faculty and fellow students
Classroom timings should be adhered
5. Students are expected to help in maintaining general cleanliness in the institute.
They are strictly prohibited from:
Writing on walls and furniture in the classroom as well as the hostel rooms or
other place in the campus
Tampering with official notices on notice boards.
Littering the premises.
Harming the planted trees in the University campus
Plastic bags should be avoided
6. Destruction/Defacing of University property is not allowed. Anybody found
indulging in destruction/defacing the university property will be punished.
7. Involvement in any form of fights / physical manhandling/ indecent activities
inside the campus or near the campus, involving outsiders in any form of fight
will be dealt with strictness.
8. Students are not allowed to keep firearms, any other lethal weapons or any
object on the campus, forbidden by law, which can cause any kind of harm to
anybody.
9. The purchase, possession, use, consumption, sale, distribution or storage of any
alcoholic beverage, controlled substance or illegal drug and smoking cigarettes
are prohibited on university campuses, training sites and at all UNIVERSITY
sponsored student events, conferences and activities.
The Process
Any instance of the breach of discipline can be referred, in writing only, to the
Disciplinary Committee by any faculty/staff member/student against any
student or group of students through the incharge of that functional activity.
The Disciplinary Committee will start enquiries/investigations. The Committee
will hold hearing(s) to give opportunity for making any representation to the
concerned parties.
The Committee shall document the entire process and will issue written
recommendations to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University on the
actions/penalty to be imposed.
The Penalty
The defaulters will be dealt with strictness. Students will be subjected to disciplinary
warning (verbal or written)/disciplinary probation or expulsion from
the hostel/ university for a term basis or forever depending upon the severity of
case. For major punishment such as expulsion/rustication from the University,
making an adverse entry on the Character Certificate to be issued by the
University and debarring a student from admission to any course offered by the
University, withdrawing of the scholarship, debarring the student from being eligible
for consideration for award of gold medal etc.
The Disciplinary Committee shall deliberate upon and recommend
actions/penalty to be taken against students who violates any of the above
disciplinary norms and shall forward to the Registrar for further necessary action
within 7 days of the convening of the inquiry. The recommendations of the
committee will be forwarded to the Vice Chancellor for approval.
The penalties will depend on the severity of action and will range from:
Warning, imposition of fines and disciplinary probation for certain period
Suspension from hostel / Institute and permanent dismissal from the
Institute / Service to the Institute in any form
In each case, strict actions will be taken keeping in view of the motivation,
nature & seriousness of the offence, and frequently involvement in any kind of
indisciplinary act.
An infraction during the disciplinary probation period shall lead to stricter
penalties ranging from suspension for few semesters to permanent
dismissal from the Institute.
The Appeal
Any student who is aggrieved about such actions taken by the
Disciplinary Committee may appeal to the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, who is the
final appellate authority.
No appeal under this shall be entertained unless it is submitted within a period
of two weeks from the date on which the appellant receives a copy of the
order. The appellate authority may entertain an appeal after the expiry of the
said period, if (s) he is satisfied that the appellant has sufficient cause for not
submitting the appeal in time.
In case of police complaints the situation will be reported to the Registrar
AUTHORITY TO AMEND
Notwithstanding all that has been stated in the rules, the competent authority has the
right to amend any of the rules from time to time.
