Microsoft Word is a word processing software. It helps you type, edit, format, and
print documents.
Uses of Microsoft Word:-
• Writing letters
• Creating homework or projects
• Making tables or lists
• Inserting pictures and shapes
• Checking spelling and grammar
Main Parts of MS Word Window:-
• Title Bar – Shows the name of your document.
• Ribbon – Contains tabs like Home, Insert, Design, etc.
• Quick Access Toolbar – Has buttons like Save, Undo, and Redo.
• Workspace – Where you type your document.
• Scroll Bars – Help you move up/down or left/right on the page.
Common Tabs in MS Word:
• File - It contains everything you type, format, or insert—like text,
pictures, tables, and more.
• Home – Font style, size, color, bold, underline, alignment
• Insert – Add pictures, shapes, tables, etc.
• Design – Choose themes and styles
• Layout – Page size, margins, orientation
• Review – Spelling and grammar check
• View – Zoom and page display options
Basic Formatting Tools:
• Bold (B)
• Italic (I)
• Underline (U)
• Font size
• Font color
• Text alignment (Left, Center, Right, Justify)
Tips for Students:--
• Always save your work. (Ctrl + S)
• Use spell check to correct mistakes.
• Try using bullets and numbering to make lists.
• You can insert pictures to make your project interesting!
File - A file in Microsoft Word is a document that you create and save. It contains
everything you type, format, or insert—like text, pictures, tables, and more.
Important Points About a Word File:-
• A Word file usually ends with “.docx” (e.g., Homework.docx)
• You can create, open, save, print, and close files in Word.
• Each file can have a name, so you can find it later.
• Files are stored on your computer or cloud (like OneDrive).
File Tab in MS Word
