What is a computer?
A computer is an electronic device that manipulates
information, or data. It has the ability to store, retrieve,
and process data. You may already know that you can use
a computer to type documents, send email, play games,
and browse the Web. You can also use it to edit or
create spreadsheets, presentations, and even videos.
Hardware and software
Hardware:
Hardware is any part of your computer that has a physical
structure.
example:
software:
Software is any set of instructions that tells the hardware what
to do and how to do it.
Examples :
of software include web browsers, games, and word processors.
Input Devices
Input device enables the user to send data, information, or control signals to a
computer. The Central Processing Unit (CPU) of a computer re
ceives the input and processes it to produce the output.
Some of the popular input devices are:
1. Keyboard
2. Mouse
3. Scanner
4. Joystick
5. Light Pen
Output Devices
The output device displays the result of the processing of raw data that is
entered in the computer through an input device. There are a number of
output devices that display output in different ways such as text, images, hard
copies, and audio or video. They bridge the gap between digital data and
human perception, letting users engage with computer-generated information.
Understanding the many forms of output devices and their importance in
computing is essential for making informed decisions while selecting the right
devices for certain applications.
• Monitor
• Printer
• Projector
Processor
A processor (CPU) is the logic circuitry that responds to and processes
the basic instructions that drive a computer. The CPU is seen as the
main and most crucial integrated circuitry (IC) chip in a computer, as it is
responsible for interpreting most of computers commands. CPUs will
perform most basic arithmetic, logic and I/O operations, as well as
allocate commands for other chips and components running in a
computer
