Statistics Notes

The document provides a quick overview of statistics, covering the basics of data collection, measures of central tendency (mean, median, mode), and measures of dispersion (range, variance, standard deviation). It also includes information on correlation using Karl Pearson's coefficient and fundamental concepts of probability. Overall, it emphasizes the importance of statistics in data analysis and understanding data distribution.

Statistics Quick Notes

1. Basics of Statistics
• Deals with collection, presentation, analysis of data.
• Types: Ungrouped and grouped data.
• Frequency distribution tables organize data efficiently.

2. Measures of Central Tendency

• Mean (x■) = Σx/n.
• Median: Middle value of ordered data.
• Mode: Most frequent observation.
• For grouped data: formulas use class intervals.

3. Measures of Dispersion
• Range = Max - Min.
• Mean deviation: Average of absolute deviations from mean/median.
• Variance: σ² = Σ(x - x■)² / n.
• Standard deviation: σ = √variance.

4. Correlation
• Karl Pearson's coefficient (r).
• r = Σ(x - x■)(y - ■)/√[Σ(x - x■)² Σ(y - ■)²].
• Value between -1 and +1.

5. Probability Basics
• Probability (P) = Favorable outcomes / Total outcomes.
• 0 ≤ P ≤ 1.
• Addition and multiplication rules apply.

6. Important Notes
• Statistics is widely used in data analysis.
• Mean, median, mode give central tendency.
• Variance and SD show spread of data.
