COMMUNITY PROGRAM RESPONSE PAPER ASSIGNMENT INSTRUCTIONS

OVERVIEW
Writing is a critical element in doctoral-level work. Understanding not only how to articulate
content in a scholarly voice, but also how to organize, synthesize, integrate and format writing is
necessary.
The following prompt will be used to guide the development of the Community Case Study:
You are a mental health professional in your local community and have been for the last five
years. In that time, you have noted that there are unmet needs for your clients. These are not
needs that your agency can address but could be addressed by joining of resources across the
community. You believe that if those needs were addressed, your client population would not
only benefit from the practical implementation of the resource but would likely thrive and be
able to have a more fully functioning life experience. This assignment focuses on the
conceptualization of the “case” which is greater than one client; rather, the case is the need in the
community which can support a client population. Examples of populations include homeless,
veterans, teenage parents, autistic children, addiction, incarcerated mothers, and multiple others.
INSTRUCTIONS

Students will write a 4–6-page (not counting title, abstract, and references) APA-formatted paper
developing a Community Program that responds to a population/need in the community (this can
be the student’s community, or the student can use the Sue et al. or June & Black text to help
inform this population). This program needs to focus specifically on one population for which
there is a gap in services, an unmet need, or lack of organization/collaboration for existing
services. Using the headings below, provide a well-supported (i.e., cited at least 5 scholarly,
peer-reviewed sources published within the last 5 years) discussion of the population for which
the program will be designed and support for the need. Citations are not needed in the discussion
of the program itself. The program needs to be the student’s own creation and needs to be
presented in narrative (i.e., not a bulleted list). A biblical worldview from scholarly sources
needs to be integrated THROUGHOUT the paper. The paper should demonstrate integration and
synthesis of sources; no direct quotes should be present.

Description of the Population (what are the national statistics for this population as well as the
community statistics? What does the literature suggest about the population in general? What are
the diversity considerations to address?)
Identification of Need (what is the gap/need? What statistics exist for who is receiving/not
receiving the services in the community?)
Program Name (Name the program. Describe services/staff/operations [program]/who is
involved, who are stakeholders, when/where/how often meet, what will focus be [coalition]).
What are potential challenges and barriers to the success of the program’s services and how will
the program address those?)
Conclusion (A conclusion is a discussion of concluding thoughts, not just a summary. Be sure
that this is at least 2-3 paragraphs).

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
