MRI LUMBO-SACRAL SPINE
Clinical Info: low backache
Technique: Multiplanar, multisequential, T1W, T2W sagittal and axial sections, non-contrast, MR
study of lumbar spine.
REPORT:
Multilevel osteophytes and disc desiccation noted in lumbar spine. Corner Modic type II
changes at L4 vertebra.
L1-L2 level: Normal
L2-L3 level: Disc desiccation with mild disc bulge appreciated causing mild
effacement of bilateral lateral recesses with abutting of bilateral transiting nerve
roots. Bilateral neural foramina along with bilateral exiting nerve roots are preserved.
L3-L4 level: Disc desiccation with mild disc bulge appreciated causing mild
effacement of bilateral lateral recesses with abutting of bilateral transiting nerve
roots. Bilateral neural foramina along with bilateral exiting nerve roots are preserved.
L4-L5 level: Disc desiccation with left paracentral disc bulge causing mild narrowing
of left lateral recess with mild compression of left transiting nerve root. Right lateral
recess, bilateral neural foramina along with right transiting & bilateral exiting nerve roots are
preserved.
L5-S1 level: Disc desiccation with mild disc bulge appreciated causing mild
effacement of bilateral lateral recesses with abutting of bilateral transiting nerve
roots. Bilateral neural foramina along with bilateral exiting nerve roots are preserved.
Bony spine is intact with no evidence of fracture, listhesis or marrow abnormality is noted. No evidence
of intra or extra dural abnormal MR signal is noted and conus medullaris and cauda equina have
normal MR signal. No pre or para vertebral soft tissue mass.
IMPRESSION:-
Multilevel lumbar spondylosis with disc desiccation, mild disc bulges. L4-L5 left
paracentral disc bulge is causing mild left transiting nerve root compression. Other
levels show mild neural abutment without significant foraminal or central canal
compromise. Imaging findings are consistent with multilevel mild degenerative disc
disease.
