Oil Leaks from Piston
Dear Sirs,
We have received a number of reports from service that
oil has leaked from the piston of some L35MC engines.
Investigation shows that the leaks mainly occur between
the contact surfaces of the piston crown and the piston
skirt. If these contact surfaces are damaged, oil can
seep directly into the scavenge space via the two
threaded holes for tool made in the piston skirt.
In the event that such leaks are observed, we recommend
that the following action should be taken:
Inspect the contact surfaces of the piston crown and
piston skirt and, if any abnormality is found, re-machine
the surfaces.

Seal the contact surfaces with Rhodorsil Sealant No.


7306, and insert EN61V1012 screws into the two holes,
sealing and locking them with Loctite 242, as shown on
the enclosed sketch.
