IELTS Writing Task 2 Model Essays (Predicted Topics - 26 July 2025)

1. Environment: Individuals vs. Governments

Some people believe that individuals can do little to help the environment. Only governments and large

companies can make a real difference. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

While it is true that governments and corporations play a crucial role in environmental protection, I

strongly believe that individuals also have a significant part to play. Environmental change requires

both systemic reform and personal commitment.

On one hand, governments can enforce regulations on industries and invest in renewable energy,

while large companies can adopt eco-friendly practices and innovate green technologies. These

macro-level changes are essential for large-scale impact. However, without the support and

behavior change of individuals, these efforts may fall short.

On the other hand, individuals contribute through small yet impactful actions such as reducing

plastic use, conserving water, recycling, and using public transport. Moreover, when millions of

individuals adopt such habits, the cumulative effect can be enormous. Public demand also

pressures companies and policymakers to act sustainably.

In conclusion, environmental protection must be a shared responsibility. Individual actions,

combined with government and corporate policies, create a powerful force for change.

2. Technology and Communication

Today, people rely more on the internet and mobile devices for communication. Is this a positive or negative

development?

The increasing reliance on the internet and mobile devices for communication is a double-edged

sword. While it brings convenience and connectivity, it also introduces challenges that must be
addressed.

On the positive side, technology has revolutionized communication, allowing instant connection

across the globe. It enhances accessibility, supports remote work, and strengthens social ties

despite geographical distance.

However, over-dependence on digital communication often weakens face-to-face interactions.

People may feel more isolated and emotionally distant, leading to reduced empathy and social skills.

Additionally, excessive screen time may contribute to mental health problems.

In conclusion, although digital communication offers significant benefits, maintaining a healthy

balance between online and in-person interaction is essential. Therefore, this development is

positive, but only if used responsibly.

3. Education: Food and Cooking in Schools

Some people think that children should learn how to grow food and cook at school. Others believe that there

are more important subjects. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

There is ongoing debate about whether practical life skills like growing food and cooking should be

included in school curricula. While some prioritize academic subjects, I believe such life skills are

equally important.

Supporters of traditional subjects argue that school time should focus on areas like math, science,

and languages that prepare students for higher education and the job market. They claim that

practical skills can be taught at home.

However, teaching students how to grow food and cook promotes independence, healthy eating,

and environmental awareness. These skills can combat health problems such as obesity and
encourage sustainable living. Moreover, not all children have the opportunity to learn these at home.

In conclusion, while academic subjects are important, integrating life skills like cooking and

gardening provides a more holistic education. Schools should offer a balance of both.

4. Work-Life Balance

Many people work long hours, leaving little time for leisure. What are the causes and effects of this?

Long working hours have become common in modern society, and this trend has both individual and

societal consequences. There are several causes and many adverse effects.

One major cause is the competitive job market, where employees work overtime to secure

promotions or avoid layoffs. Additionally, the high cost of living forces people to work longer to meet

financial demands. Some organizations also promote a culture of overwork.

The effects are concerning. Lack of leisure leads to stress, burnout, and health issues.

Relationships suffer due to limited family time. From a societal perspective, decreased productivity

and rising healthcare costs are significant outcomes.

To conclude, while working hard is often necessary, excessive hours without leisure can be harmful.

Governments and companies must encourage a healthier work-life balance.

5. Health: Fitness Methods

Some people think that the best way to stay fit is to join a gym or health club, while others believe that doing

everyday activities such as walking and climbing stairs is enough. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Staying fit is essential for a healthy life, and there is debate over the most effective way to achieve

this. While gyms offer structured exercise, everyday activities also have their own benefits.

Gyms provide access to specialized equipment and trained professionals. They allow for
goal-oriented workouts and can be especially helpful for those with specific fitness targets. Group

classes also offer motivation.

Conversely, daily activities like walking, cycling to work, or taking the stairs are more natural and

sustainable. They require no special equipment or cost and can be easily integrated into a busy

schedule. These methods encourage consistent movement and healthy habits.

In my opinion, both approaches are valuable. People should choose what fits their lifestyle best. For

many, a combination of regular activities and occasional gym sessions may work best.
