Children! We all love to make drawings in computer.

features and tools for creating and editing drawings of
your choice.

painting software on your computer with both the
basic and advanced tools for creating drawings with
an easy and fun activity.

⮚ Yes! It is Paint 3D that comes for free with Windows 10.


Paint 3D makes it easy to unlock your creativity and
bring your ideas to life.

Before starting Paint 3D ,lets know the difference between
2D and 3D objects.
2D Objects Examples
The objects that have only
two dimensions, such as CIRCLE
height and width. They are TRIANGLE
the flat objects that exist
virtually only i.e. we can not
hold them in our hand.

The objects that have three
dimensions like height, width
and length. They are different
from 2D shapes because they
have thickness. Examples of

daily life as well.

STEPS TO OPEN PAINT 3D APP

01 Click on the Start button.

Scroll down the menu and select the Paint 3D option from
the list.

Type Paint 3D in Search box.

03 The Paint 3D window will open.

Click on the New option. The new canvas for drawing will

COMPONENTS OF PAINT 3D WINDOW
CANVAS
Canvas is the area in Paint 3D window
where you can create your drawings
including 2D or 3D models. You can
also customize it according to your
need.
⮚ You can resize, rotate and control
canvas dimensions in terms of
percentage or pixels.
⮚ Make it transparent and turn off
the 2D canvas to freely design your
3D models.
2D AND 3D SHAPES IN PAINT 3D
RECAP ACTIVITY
Identify these 3D shapes and name them:
DRAWING 2D OBJECTS
Follow the given steps to draw 2D shapes:

1 Click on 2D shapes option.

2 Select any shape of your choice, say Star.

3 Move mouse pointer on the canvas area.

4 Notice that the mouse pointer changes into ‘+’ sign.

5 By holding the left mouse button , drag it to draw the star.

6 Add colour of your choice by using the Fill option.


DRAWING 3D OBJECTS
Paint 3D contains three types of 3D shapes which are 3D doodles, 3D
objects and 3D models. We are going to draw 3D objects with the
given steps:
1 Click on 3D shapes option.
2 Select any shape of your choice, say Cube.

3 Move mouse pointer on the canvas area.

4 Notice that the mouse pointer changes into ‘+’ sign.

5 By holding the left mouse button , drag it to draw the cube.

6 Add colour of your choice by using the Edit Color option from
3D selection panel.

RECAP ACTIVITY
Label these parts of the Paint 3D window.
POINTS TO REMEMBER
⮚ To fill an object with color, click on the Brushes tab and select the Fill
option. Choose the desired colour and left click with mouse on the object.
⮚ The Undo command is used to cancel the last action and the shortcut key for
undo is Ctrl + Z.
⮚ The Redo command is used to reverse the effects of undo command and the
shortcut key for redo is Ctrl + Y.
⮚ Ctrl +A is the shortcut key to select all 3D or 2D items on the Canvas.
⮚ Ctrl + C and Ctrl +V are the shortcut keys to copy and paste the selected
item.
⮚ Ctrl + G is used to group and Ctrl + Shift + G is used to ungroup the selected
objects.
WORKING WITH THE BRUSHES TOOLS
Brushes in Paint 3D allows you to expand your artistic
abilities with various types of pens and brushes. With these
artistic brushes you can give your drawings a professional
look.
⮚ On clicking Brushes tab, the brushes panel gets open on
the right side.
⮚ Select any brush of your choice say Watercolour.
⮚ Increase or decrease the size of the brush by moving
the Thickness slider.
⮚ Choose any colour from the color palette. Move the
mouse on the canvas area.
⮚ By holding the left mouse button, drag it to draw on the
canvas or on 2D and 3D objects as per your
requirement.
⮚ In this way you can use different brushes while drawing.
ERASING A DRAWING
To erase any part of the drawing, Eraser tool is used.
Follow the given steps to use Eraser tool:
⮚ Click on the Brushes tab, Select Eraser tool from
Brushes panel from the right side.
⮚ Increase or decrease the size of the eraser by
moving the Thickness slider.
⮚ The mouse pointer changes into symbol.
⮚ By holding the left mouse button, move it on the
area you want to erase.

NOTE: You can also use shortcut keys, Ctrl +


to increase and Ctrl – to decrease the size of
eraser.
ADDING 2D OR 3D TEXT
You can add text to your drawing as and when required.
2D text option allows you to add plain or flat text whereas
3D text option allows you to move and see your text like a
3D object on the canvas.
⮚ Click on Text tab. Select the type of text 2D or 3D.
⮚ Move and drag the mouse on canvas to draw the
placeholder to enter the text.
⮚ Choose font, font size, colour, style and alignment and
enter text in placeholder.
⮚ Click outside the placeholder to finish.
SAVING A DRAWING
Saving your drawing is important if you want
to use it in future. Follow the given steps to
save your drawing: 2
⮚ Click on the Menu tab. Select the Save as
option from the list.
⮚ From Save as copy option on the right
side, choose Image file format .
⮚ Your drawing will be saved. You can
select any other file format also
according to your need. 1

NOTE: 3D model file format can only be


used to save 3D objects/drawings.
3D LIBRARY
3D Library contains a variety of 3D objects
that are arranged in different groups. These
objects are freely available in 3D Library. You
can use them in Paint 3D by connecting your
computer to the internet.
⮚ Click on 3D Library tab.
⮚ Select a 3D model of your choice from the
collections displayed on the right-side
panel.
⮚ Once you select the object, it will
automatically be inserted to the canvas.

NOTE: You can also search for 3D model


of your choice in 3D library by typing its
name in the search box.
RECAP ACTIVITY
Identify and name these tools in Paint 3D:
APPLYING STICKERS AND TEXTURES
You can add stickers to your 3D models/drawings from the stickers gallery to make it
more attractive. You can also apply some textures to your drawings to give it a unique
effect.
⮚ Click on 3D shapes tab.
⮚ Select a 3D model of Dog from 3D shapes panel.
⮚ Move mouse pointer on the canvas area.
⮚ The pointer changes into ‘+’ sign. Hold down the left mouse button and
drag to draw 3D model of Dog.
⮚ Add colour of your choice by using the Edit Color option.
⮚ Click on the Stickers tab.
⮚ Select the Eye sticker from the stickers panel on the right side and add it to the dog
on canvas.
⮚ Select a texture of your choice from stickers panel and add it to the ear of the dog.
Adjust the size and direction of texture as desired.
ADDING EFFECTS
You can use unique effects by changing the environment
and lighting in your 3D scenes by selecting the Effects tab.
You can even move the sun around a light wheel to
change the direction of the lighting.

⮚ To add an effect to your 3D Paint drawing, select the


Effects tab.

⮚ Click on the effect you want to add, from the Filter on


the right panel. It will be applied to your drawing.

⮚ Select the Sun around the Light wheel and move it


around to adjust the lighting.
MIXED REALITY
Mixed Reality is an amazing feature that is the part of Paint 3D application. It allows you
to view your Paint 3D creations in the real world. In other words, it is the combination of
your digital and real world together at the same time.
⮚ Select any object from the 3D Library say Spider. It will be added to the canvas.
⮚ Click on the Mixed Reality option.
⮚ It will open the 3D Viewer on your system.
⮚ Your camera will turn on. Adjust the position
and direction of your 3D object with mouse.
⮚ See your 3D object in your real world.
⮚ You can also save it as a photo or video.
LET’S KNOW MORE
3D DOODLE – This option allows
you to transform your freehand
drawing into a 3D object.

HISTORY SLIDER- This option


allows you to keep track of all
the tools and options used while
creating a drawing.
HANDS ON ACTIVITY
Draw a Dinosaur using 3D doodle in Paint 3D using your own creativity
and ideas.

3D VIEW – This option allows


you to move and see your
drawing from different
angles. We can use this
option to edit our 3D model
from any angle.
HANDS ON ACTIVITY
Draw a Fish Aquarium.
OR
Draw an Aerospace or Solar System scene of your choice.
NOTE: You can use Stickers, 3D Library and other options also
according to your need.
