Considerations in Planning
7. State the events prior to the assisting plan taking place. Why did
the teacher ask you to do this assisting plan with the children?
Mention the name of the skill as it would be referred to in the
curriculum.
Student K has a hard time to stay on task and often not try to
complete his assignments. The teacher asked me if I had any ideas
how to get Student K motivated to work on assignments. I thought
that setting a timer for 10 minutes throughout the day when the
students worked on individual assignments he could earn a sticker
on the condition that he was filling out answers and his eyes kept
on his paper. I gave him a squared chart and taped it on his desk
so that he could see each time he got a sticker. Once he has the
whole chart full of stickers he will receive a prize from the
teacher’s treasure box. His work has improve since the timer was
implemented I thought trying something slightly different. I want
to give him the responsibility of choose when he wants to set the
timer for work time instead of me telling him when he has to work.
The goal is to get him to use self-motivation to complete his work
at all times not only when someone is there to prompt him.
8. State the steps in implementing the assistance session.
a. I will tell Student K how well he is doing since we have begun
the timer settings.
b. I will tell him we are going to try something a little different
c. I will tell Student K that he can choose a time during class that
he wants to set the timer to help him complete his work.
d. When he sets a time I will put the timer on his desk for 10
minutes.
e. I will check Student K during this time if he can stay on task
during the activity he chose.
f. When the time is up I will reward Student K with stickers.
9. Outline the reinforcement and motivation system.
I will reward Student K with a chance to earn two stickers if he can
choose his own time to work diligently. Every day he is counting
down how many stickers he has left to fill the chart. I think this will
be motivation for him to be able to earn two stickers at once.
