Experiment 04
Experiment name: Simulating star, bus, mesh, ring and hybrid topology using cisco
packet tracer.
Objectives:
1. Understanding the characteristics and advantages of different network topologies such as
star, bus, mesh, ring, and hybrid topologies.
2. Gain practical experience in setting up and configuring network topologies using Cisco
Packet Tracer.
3. Understand the differences between physical and logical topologies.
4. Understand the role of network devices such as switches, routers, and hubs in each
topology.
5. Practice troubleshooting techniques and identify common issues in different network
topologies.
6. Understand how different network topologies can affect network performance,
scalability, and security.
Requirement:
1. Cisco Packet Tracer software installed on your computer
2. A computer or laptop with sufficient processing power and memory to run the simulation
3. Network devices such as switches, routers, hubs, and computers to create the topology
4. Network cables or wireless connections to connect the devices in the topology
5. Knowledge of network design and configuration principles
6. Knowledge of Cisco Packet Tracer software and its features.
Procedure:
1. Open Cisco Packet Tracer software and create a new project.
2. Choose the appropriate network topology from the options in Packet Tracer's toolbar.
3. Add the necessary network devices to the workspace, such as switches, routers, hubs, and
computers.
4. Connect the devices using the appropriate network cables or wireless connections.
5. Configure the network devices as required, including IP addresses, subnet masks, default
gateways, and VLANs.
6. Test the connectivity between devices in the topology by sending data packets and
verifying that they are received successfully.
7. Experiment with different scenarios, such as disconnecting a device or cable, to observe
the impact on network performance and identify potential issues.
8. Record the results of the experiments and analyze the data to draw conclusions about the
characteristics and advantages of each network topology.
9. Repeat the process for each topology you want to simulate.
Output: with picture
1. Bus Topology.
2. Star Topology.
3. Ring Topology.
4. Mesh Topology.
5. Hybrid Topology.
Conclusion:
In conclusion, simulating different network topologies such as star, bus, mesh, ring, and hybrid
using Cisco Packet Tracer can provide valuable practical experience in network design,
configuration, and troubleshooting. By setting up simulations of each topology, you can gain a
deeper understanding of the advantages and limitations of each, as well as the role of network
devices such as switches, routers, and hubs in each topology.
Through experimentation and analysis of the data obtained, you can draw conclusions about the
characteristics and advantages of each topology, as well as how they affect network
performance, scalability, and security. Additionally, you can identify common issues that can
arise in different network topologies and practice troubleshooting techniques to address these
issues.
Overall, simulating different network topologies using Cisco Packet Tracer is an effective way
to gain practical experience in network design and configuration, and can help you develop the
skills necessary to design and implement effective networks in real-world scenarios.
