Challenges and Solutions

During my internship at Food and Inns Ltd., I encountered several challenges that
tested my adaptability and problem-solving abilities. Overcoming these challenges
contributed significantly to my personal and professional development. Below are
some key challenges I faced and how I addressed them:

1. Challenge: Adapting to a Corporate Environment

As a student entering a structured workplace for the first time, it was initially
challenging to adapt to the professional expectations, formal communication, and
time-bound responsibilities.

Solution: I closely observed the behavior and communication style of the HR team,
asked questions when needed, and gradually aligned my approach with the
professional standards expected in the organization.

2. Challenge: Understanding Complex HR Processes

HR processes such as payroll, statutory deductions, and compliance documentation

were complex and new to me.

Solution: I actively took notes during training sessions, reviewed policy documents,
and sought guidance from my mentor and senior team members to build a better
understanding of these concepts.

3. Challenge: Managing Multiple Tasks Simultaneously

There were days when I had to assist with onboarding, recruitment, and
documentation tasks all at once.

Solution: I learned to prioritize my tasks by maintaining a checklist and focusing on

deadlines. This helped me improve my time management and efficiency.

15
4. Challenge: Communicating with Employees Across Departments

Interacting with employees from different departments and levels required clear
and confident communication.

Solution: I prepared in advance for conversations, used polite and professional

language, and gradually became more confident in handling inter-departmental
coordination.

5. Challenge: Limited Experience with HR Software

Initially, I was unfamiliar with the HRMS software used for record-keeping and
attendance.

Solution: I spent additional time after regular hours practicing on the system and
requested short tutorials from the HR assistant to better understand the functions.

Overcoming these challenges helped me become more independent, responsible,

and prepared for future roles in the HR domain. Each obstacle was a valuable
learning opportunity that contributed to my growth.

Recommendations

Based on my internship experience at Food and Inns Ltd., I would like to offer the
following recommendations which may enhance the HR department's effectiveness
and improve the overall internship program:

1. Structured Internship Orientation

Conducting a formal orientation session for interns at the beginning can provide
better clarity on company expectations, departmental goals, and intern
responsibilities.

2. Intern Learning Schedule

A week-by-week learning plan or task sheet can help interns stay organized and
ensure consistent learning across various HR functions.

3. Feedback Sessions

Regular feedback meetings (weekly or bi-weekly) between interns and mentors can
improve learning outcomes and allow for ongoing performance evaluation.

4. Exposure to Cross-Functional HR Activities

Providing brief exposure to related areas like industrial relations, HR legal

compliance, or CSR initiatives would give interns a more holistic understanding of
the HR domain.

20
5. Digital Resource Access

Granting limited access to internal HR manuals, sample templates, or policy

documents (under supervision) would help interns understand HR frameworks
more thoroughly.

6. Interactive Engagement Activities

Involving interns in planning or executing employee engagement activities or

internal events can enhance creativity and leadership skills.

7. Post-Internship Review and Certificate

A concluding session with performance feedback, along with a formal certificate of

completion, adds value to the internship and motivates future learning.

These suggestions are intended to support continuous improvement of the

internship experience and contribute positively to the development of both interns
and the organization.
