answers of a part at one place.
ii) All the questions are compulsory.
iii) Wherever necessary, clarify assumptions and write answers in
the required/correct units.
iv) Following expressions may be used if required.

(x). Which one is most suitable for controlling NOx from line source.

a) Fabric Filter b) ESP c) Cyclones d) Three-way Catalytic Converter

2. With appropriate equations, describe main functions of three-way catalytic converters being
employed in automobiles. (2)

3. Determine carboxyhemoglobin concentration as % saturation for CO concentration of 0.2

g/L after 90 minutes of exposure. (β=0.15 %/ ppm CO and γ = 0.402 h-1). (2)

4. A natural gas-based power plant is emitting flue gas @ 750 m3/min. It is proposed to install
an ESP with a collection efficiency of 96.8%. Calculate the total area of the collection
electrodes. If the collection efficiency is 99.5%, how much additional collection electrode
area would be needed? Drift velocity of the particles has been determined experimentally
as 468.12 m/h. (1.5+1.5=3)

5. The average wind velocity at the meteorological station of 10 m height is 2.58 m/s and the
terrain is plain in nature. Determine the wind velocity at the top of a stack of 0.15 km in
height assuming p = 0.13. (1)

6. A pulp and paper unit is emitting a pollutant at the rate of 25,920 kg/month. The wind
velocity at the effective stack height of 20 m is 4.25 m/s. What would be the ground level
concentration, in µg/m3, at a) 0.25 km downwind on centerline b) 0.25 km downwind and

the oxygen saturated water. The BOD bottle was incubated with microbial seed and
nutrients as well. The initial and final DO was reported by the technician as 7.5 and 2.1
mg/L respectively. Determine the BOD of the wastewater. The initial and final dissolved
oxygen of the oxygenated water was 8.1 and 7.9 mg/L respectively. (2)
