CHAPTER 1
Abstract
Different students have different learning
[Link] is why teachers must be flexible,
versatile, and creative in teaching in order to
create an environment that best suits the
learner’s individual needs. In order to achieve
this, the teachers and instructors must know
more about their students’ preferred learning
[Link] identification as well as the
implementation of the most fitting learning
style for the learners plays a significant role
in picking the best teaching styles which can
eventually improve their learning.
The concept of “learning styles” refers to
the various methods in which a learner
[Link] way a person takes, understands,
and remembers information is referred to as
their learning [Link] addition to
remembering the facts, the learning style of a
student is usually dependent on personal
preferences, mental readiness, and physical
[Link] learners have their own
personally preferred learning style, they
usually are one of these four learning styles:
Visual, Auditory, Read/Write or Kinesthetics;
This categorization was originally theorized
by Neil Fleming in his VARK model.

Introduction
Our world today is rapidly changing as
well as the generation of new information
and knowledge. The researchers felt that
every student has its own unique way of
learning. Therefore there is a need to study
each students different learning environment
to examine how they would be likely to learn
effectively. This is to help students on
identifying what way they learn best and to
be aware of their own process of learning.
The way of the process of learning in a
classroom context or in real life situations is
characterized by its individual manner. It is
important for the teachers to teach according
to the different learning styles of students to
improve the effectiveness of the teaching
and learning process.
VARK learning style is to guide the
students and other individuals to create a
fascinating learning environment and
stimulate students’ sense in learning. It is
also considered as an individual method that
one uses for the purpose of acquiring
knowledge, positive skills and attitude. VARK
stands for Visual (V), Auditory (A), Read/Write
(R) and Kinesthetic (K), which classify the
four types of learning preferences. The
Visuals Learners, learn best through visual or
2
graphical presentation, they rely on graphics,
videos and written information to gain new
knowledge. The Auditory Learners, learn best
by listening to the information being
conveyed to them. The Read/Write Learners
prefer to learn new information when
presented it on text format, they find it easier
to process information after reading it.
Kinesthetic Learners retain information
through their senses, they learn through
hands-on experience.

students’ preferred learning styles.

Statement of the Problem
This study intends to find out the SNHS
Senior High HUMSS students’ preferred
learning style (as defined by Fleming's VARK
model)in relation to their academic
achievement.
The study aims to answer the specific
questions that follow:
1. In terms of demographics, what is the
demographic profile of the respondents?
1.1 Age
1.2 Sex
1.3 Grade Level
1.4 Strand
2. What would be the students preferred
learning styles be?
Visual
Aural/Auditory
Read/Write
Kinesthetic
3. Is one
than it possible
learningfor a learner to have more
style?
4. Do students'
impact learning methods have an
on their grades?
6
[Link] whatto way
benefitial are these learning styles
teachers?
7
Statement of Hypothesis
Ha:There is an apparent relationship between
the Senior High School students' preferred
VARK Learning method and their academic
performance.
Ho:There is no correlation between the Senior
High School students’ preferred VARK
learning style and their academic
performance.
8
Purpose of the Study
The aim of this particular study is to figure
out the preferred learning style of the HUMSS
strand Senior High School Students in Siaton
National High School in relation to their
academic [Link] study also aims
to enlighten the students in how to execute
their learning style in its full potential and for
teachers to find out the best method of
teaching that best suits their students’
preferred learning style.
9
Significance of the Study
Students-The researchers strongly
believe that this study will greatly benefit the
students in finding out their learning style
and applying it more [Link]
particular study could assist them in
adjusting to the various teaching methods
used by their [Link] the learning styles
are done remarkably by students, this may
result in the improvement of their grades and
academic performance.
Teacher - Just as important as teaching
pupils the subject content of a course is
teaching them how to think. Principals and
lecturers who are interested in improving the
educational/learning process are always on
the lookout for new materials. They want
their kids to learn, therefore if they can
provide anything that helps them do so, they
will respond favorably and promptly.
Students can succeed in school and in life by
developing good study habits.
Parents - A lot of the challenges with
academic performance revolve with building
excellent study habits and making
assumptions about assignments. Parents can
play an important role in providing the
necessary support, environment, and tools to
help their children execute their leaning
styles efffecivly .
10
Institution and Guidance Center-This
study was conducted by providing a more
focused and factual understanding of the
factors affecting students' study habits. This
improved Guidance Counselors' and the
institution's understanding of the interplay of
the variables studied in this study. This type
of learning is desired to assist Guidance and
Counseling practitioners in improving and
implementing more successful programs
related to these issues.
Future Researchers - They may be able
to use the study's results in the near future if
they have a research related to this topic.
Scope and Delimitation
The students enrolled at Siaton National
High School, specifically the Senior High
HUMSS Strand are the main focus of this
study. This research focuses on the students
preferred learning styles that greatly works
on their own way of learning.
The study will only look at the VARK
(Visual, Aural/Auditory, Read/Write,
Kinesthetic) Learning Style Model developed
by Fleming and Mills, and will not include any
other type or model of learning styles.

Definition of Terms
Aural – Prefers to hear things to be able to
process information better. An aural learner
is a very good [Link] tend to absorb
information in a more efficient manner
through sounds, music, discussion, teachings,
etc. These individuals will be more likely to
record lectures so that they can replay them
at a later time for study purposes.
Kinesthetic Learners- A type of learner
who learns best by actively participating in
the learning process. Such learners need to
be engaged in some activity in order to learn
effectively.
Learning Style- A learning style is the way
that different individuals learn. A style of
learning refers to an individual’s preferred
way to absorb, process, comprehend and
retain information. The four key learning
styles are: visual, auditory, read/write and
kinesthetic.
Read/Write Learners- Reading/Writing
learners are at home with written material.
They comprehend and remember what they
read, and they often enjoy writing. If you
13
want a reading/writing learner to come to
your house, provide written directions.
Visual Learner- Is someone who learns best
through visual means. A type of learning
style in which students prefer to use images,
graphics, colors and maps to communicate
ideas and thoughts. Visual learners must see
information in order to learn it.
