INTRODUCTION

Social media has become a major part of teenagers’ daily lives. While it allows connection,
self-expression, and learning, it also has harmful effects when overused or used in negative
ways.

Studies and real-life experiences show a link between high screen time, online comparison,
cyberbullying, and mental health issues like anxiety, stress, and low self-esteem.

Many teenagers don’t realize these signs early. That’s where Artificial Intelligence can help
— by spotting patterns in behavior and offering early support.

Teenagers spend a lot of time on social media platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and WhatsApp.
While these platforms allow connection and expression, studies show that excessive use can lead to
anxiety, low self-esteem, depression, sleep issues, and comparison with others.
Many teens feel pressure to look perfect or get likes, and they often compare their lives to others
online.
This creates mental stress and emotional imbalance.
The goal of this project is to explore how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can recognize these unhealthy
patterns and support better mental health before things get worse.

Project aim

The aim is to create an AI-based insight system that can:

 Study behavior patterns of teens on social media

 Recognize warning signs like emotional keywords, excessive screen time, or sudden
changes in activity
 Send early alerts or give helpful tips (e.g., “Take a break”, “Feeling low? Want to
talk?”)

This can prevent worsening mental health by acting as a support system that works quietly
in the background.

Instead of waiting for someone to ask for help, the AI will analyze data and detect stress
patterns early — making a real difference in daily teenage life.

This project aims to create an AI-based tool that can study how teenagers interact with social
media and recognize early signs of stress, sadness, anxiety, or unhealthy behavior.
It will analyze behavior patterns — like too much screen time, emotional posts, or sudden
drops in engagement — and send early alerts or give simple mental health tips.
For example, if a teen is constantly posting sad words or checking likes every 2 minutes, the
system can suggest: “Take a break. Want to talk about it?”
This can help them reflect and feel supported — even before they ask for help

.AI tools like sentiment analysis, keyword detection, and usage tracking can help detect
hidden emotional patterns that a human might miss.

Steps involved in AI project cycle

 Problem Scoping:
We identified that many teens suffer from stress, anxiety, or sadness linked to how they use
social media. We want to use AI to recognize this early.

 Data Acquisition:
We collected responses via a Google Form from real teenagers to gather emotional and
behavioral patterns related to social media use.

 Data Exploration:
We plan to analyze this data — for example, how keywords like "tired" or "lonely" relate to
screen time or platform usage.

 Modelling:
We will build a basic AI model (like using sentiment analysis or classification) that can flag
potential warning signs and send simple, helpful prompts like “Take a break?” or “Want to
talk?”

 Evaluation:
We’ll test how accurate and useful the model is — and consider ethics like privacy, consent,
and emotional sensitivity.

No worries — I know that looked long 😅 Let me simplify it clearly for Slide 5 so you can
just rephrase or copy it easily. Here's a clean, assignment-focused version:

Slide 5 – Problem Statement (Problem Scoping Stage)

❓ What is the problem?

Many adolescents are experiencing mental health issues such as stress, anxiety, or low self-
esteem, and one of the major causes is unhealthy social media usage — like excessive
screen time, online comparison, and cyberbullying.
🧠 What are we trying to do?

We want to use AI to:

 Identify patterns in how teens use social media

 Detect early signs of emotional distress
 Help by giving gentle suggestions or tips to improve well-being

🎯 Main Goal of the Project:

To create a simple AI model or insight system that can:

 Recognize warning signs in social media behavior

 Analyze screen time, emotional keywords, or behavior drops
 Provide early alerts and recommend healthier habits
