Derrick Rose was born in Chicago in 1988 and showed a love for basketball from a young age, inspired by his older brothers. He attended Simeon Career Academy in Chicago where he led his high school basketball team to championships. Rose then attended the University of Memphis for one year before being drafted first overall by his hometown Chicago Bulls in 2008, becoming the first point guard chosen first in 12 years. As a Bull, Rose helped lead the team to playoff appearances and won numerous awards, including being named the youngest MVP in NBA history in 2011. Rose is considered an important player and leader for the Chicago Bulls franchise.

Derrick Rose General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose: To inform the audience why Derrick Rose is important to Chicago.

Central Idea: I will tell my audience about Derrick Roses childhood, how he got to where he is now, and all his accomplishments. Type of Informative Speech: biography I. Introduction A. Chicago also known as the windy city is an exiting place to live! Its known for its architecture, food, and of course many of the sports teams that hold their roots here. B. Chicago Bulls have been one of the greatest basketball teams ever since 1995 till today. Derrick Rose is known for being the best player on the Chicago Bulls and is also known as the Most Valuable Player in the whole N.B.A 2011.

Transition: Ever wonder what lead to his accomplishments? Well first Im going to start of by telling you about his childhood. II. Childhood A. Derrick Martell Rose was born on October 4, 1988 in Chicago, Illinois. 1. Older brothers inspired his love for basket ball 2. Role model- Michael Jordan 3. Practice at a young age B. High school 1. Enrolled in Simeon Career Academy 2. Played basketball 3. Was on J.V and led his team to the championships and later joined varsity

Transition: After high school thats where he started to get recognized for his hard work and amazing talent that every collage recruiters were hounding Derrick for years. III. Collage A. His brothers helped him narrow down his choices 1. Choose to go to Memphis 2. Teamed with shooting guard Chris Douglas 3. Consisted 20-point scorer who was ticketed for the NBA. B. After just playing freshman year he has decided to be drafted into the NBA. 1. He has been selected number one by his hometown team the Chicago Bulls.

2. First point guard to be chosen number one in twelve years. 3. Rose helped lead the Bulls to the Eastern Conference Playoffs. Transition: After winning many games throughout the seasons Derrick Rose received many achievements. IV. Accomplishments A. Derrick Rose was the first to be honored to be chosen to play in the All Star games ever since Michael Jordan in 1998. 1. The 2010-2011 season was a memorable one for the Bulls and Derrick Rose as he lead his team with the best record in the NBA with 62 wins and 20 losses. 2. Became the youngest MVP in history. Conclusion A. In conclusion, the city of Chicago envys D Rose not only for his winnings but also for his leadership and great talent. Derrick loves having the ball in his hands with the game on the line. Hes a natural leader who doesnt have to score to be effective on the floor.
