Step 1 For a basic flat herringbone design, choose the colors you want to work with. For this technique, we have choosen three colors - color A, color B and color C.

Step 2 Cut a piece of thread about 5 feet long. Thread your needle.

Step 3 Add a mini bead stopper about one foot from the end of your thread. Squeeze the two loops to open the bead stopper.

Step 22 To begin the herringbone stitch, go up through the last bead in the first row.

Step 23 String 2 B beads.

Step 24 Skip the first bead in the second row and go down through the next bead in that same row.

Step 25 Go up through the next bead.

Step 26 String 2 B beads.

Step 27 Go down through the next bead.

Step 28 Go up through the next bead.

Step 29 String 2 B beads.

Step 30 Go down through the last bead in the same row.

Step 31 To do the turn, go back up through the last added bead.

Step 32 Add 2 C beads.

Step 33 Go down through the next B bead.

Step 34 Go up through the next B bead.

Step 35 String 2 C beads.

Step 36 Go down through the next B bead.

Step 37 Go up through the next B bead.

Step 38 String 2 C beads.

Step 39 Go down through the next B bead.

Step 40 Repeat steps 23 through 39 until you have reached your desired length.

Step 41 To finish off the thread, go down through several beads.

Step 42 Loop the needle around the thread between two beads. Tie a surgeon's knot around the thread and pull taut.

Step 43 Cut the thread.

Step 44 Clean up the ends of your thread using a Perfect End Thread Burner. Burn or melt the end of your thread until the end is no longer visible.

Step 45 To add a new piece of thread, tie a surgeon's knot around one of the threads between two beads.

Step 46 Go up through the beads until you exit through the last added bead.

Step 47 String 2 beads.

Step 48 Continue working the pattern.
