PAPER PRESENTATION
INTRODUCTION
Are you ready to showcase your presentation skills? The paper presentation competition isn't just
an event; it's your chance to shine, offering students and researchers a vibrant platform to
present, receive valuable feedback, and network with industry professionals. While ideas have the
potential to change the world, without the right guidance, they can struggle to take shape.
This is where research plays a crucial role, providing the necessary framework to address specific
challenges and transform innovative ideas into real-world solutions.
At Mechanica, we empower young minds to refine their creativity and develop practical solutions to
academic challenges. Mechanical engineering is a dynamic and ever-evolving field, constantly seeing
new research and breakthroughs. The paper presentation is an excellent opportunity for students
and researchers to share their groundbreaking ideas and discoveries with a broader audience. We
warmly invite all interested individuals to participate, as together, we can drive the progress of the
mechanical engineering discipline forward.
What to Do?
All participants are required to make two submissions:
1. A research paper (preferably in PDF format)
2. A presentation (PPT format)
Submission Details:
Participants must write and submit a research paper or literature review based on the topics
provided. You will also need to create a PowerPoint presentation that outlines your findings. On the
day of the event at Mechanica, IIT Madras, each team will present their work.
Submission Guidelines:
● The research paper must be submitted before the deadline.
● Ensure that the paper is original and free from plagiarism. Proper references and citations
must be included wherever necessary.
Presentation Guidelines:
● Prepare a presentation based on your research paper.
● The presentation must be in PowerPoint or any other digital format.
● The presentation should not exceed the allotted time limit.
● Participants will be penalized for exceeding the time limit.
Judging Criteria:
1. The quality of the content in the paper, the effort put into the research, and the
presentation of illustrations and layout.
2. The presentation will be evaluated based on content, delivery, organization, and overall
impact.
Plagiarism:
● Plagiarism will not be tolerated. Any plagiarized content found will lead to disqualification.
Equipment:
● Participants are responsible for bringing their own laptops and any other necessary
equipment for their presentation.
Questions and Answers:
● After the presentation, judges may ask questions related to the research paper and
presentation. Be prepared to answer them.
Rules:
● Each team can have a maximum of 3 members. Teams of 2 or even single-member teams are
also allowed.
● Contestants will be given 8 minutes to present their work.
● The presentation must be your original work. Plagiarism or submission of non-original
content will lead to disqualification.
● Both the research paper and the presentation should be uploaded on the form, which will be
shared soon via the website and WhatsApp groups.
● Ensure that you include your details (name, team name, etc.) in both the Paper PDF and the
Presentation PPT.
● In case of any disputes, the judges' decision will be final.
● Please note that event details may be subject to change depending on the situation.
Description 🗒
● Only teams that qualify from the first round will be eligible to participate in the second
round.
● Choose one of the topics listed below and create both a paper and a presentation.
○ (a) The first presentation will take place on 5th April (Round 1).
○ (b) The second presentation will take place on 6th April (Round 2).
Important:
● You must select the same problem statement for both presentations (Round 1 and Round 2).
● Participants who do not clear the first round will not be allowed to present in the
second round. Therefore, all participants should be fully prepared for both rounds in
advance.
Problem Statements
1. Optimization of Heat Exchangers for Thermal Management in Aerospace Applications
a) Develop a simulation-based approach integrating CFD and heat transfer analysis for
optimizing aerospace heat exchangers.
b) Discuss how advanced materials and manufacturing techniques contribute to enhancing
heat exchanger performance while maintaining weight constraints.
2. Development of an Energy-Efficient HVAC System for Commercial Buildings
a) Propose a hybrid HVAC system design integrating renewable energy sources to reduce
power consumption.

and thermal comfort.
3. Optimization of Electric Vehicle Powertrains for Enhanced Efficiency
a) Investigate the role of regenerative braking in improving the overall efficiency of
electric vehicle powertrains.
b) Compare the performance of different electric motor topologies (e.g., induction vs.
permanent magnet) for EV applications.
4. Advanced Welding Techniques for High-Strength Alloys in Aerospace Manufacturing
a) Investigate the influence of laser beam welding parameters on microstructural
properties of titanium alloys.
b) Develop an optimization strategy to minimize residual stresses in welded aerospace
components.
