RE: Academic Program Discontinuations in Response to HB 265: Higher Education Strategic
Reinvestment
In alignment with our shared commitment to academic excellence, institutional sustainability, and
student success, the University has submitted a draft proposal to the Utah System of Higher Education
{USHE) identifying a portfolio of academic programs recommended for discontinuation. This action is
taken in accordance with House Bill 265: Higher Education Strategic Reinvestment, passed during the
2025 General Session of the Utah Legislature. In response, the University conducted a data-informed
analysis of academic programs-beginning with those that have had little to no recent enrollment or
degree conferrals.
Based on this review, we are moving forward with the discontinuation of the academic programs listed in
the attached document.
These decisions reflect careful consideration and consultation with College/School and Departmental
leadership. We are committed to ensuring that currently enrolled students in these programs are
supported with clear, timely pathways to degree completion (e.g., "teach out plans") or transition to
academically appropriate alternatives.
We recognize the weight of these decisions and the importance of shared governance in managing this
process with transparency and integrity. Thank you for your continued partnership in advancing the
mission of the University and supporting a bold, student-centered approach to academic reinvestment.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns as we move forward.

Meeting of the Associate Deans.
