EASY INSTALLATION

♦ Hardware Installation (See p7)

1. Connect RS232 cable to UPS communication port.

2. Connect female connector of RS-232 cable to the PC.


3. USB solution is optional offer. Whenever use USB
interface, only MegaTec specific USB cable is applicable,
or the UPS must embedded with our USB IC. Contact our
service center for details, or your UPS manufacturer.
♦ Software Installation (Take paper card as an example) (See p12)

4. Download the UPSilon 2000 6.0 software installation


package. (For download link, please check the paper card.)
5. After the download is completed, unzip the
file-compressed package. Execute the UPSilon 2000.exe
installation package in the root directory to start the
installation process.
6. During the installation process, you need to enter the
product serial number (please check the paper card for the
product serial number), and the installation continues until
completed.
7. Then, check whether UPSilon has started in the taskbar,
check whether "UPS Auto-Protect" and "USB UPS of
Megatec" in "Services" are running.

Introduction

1. Introduction
UPSilon 2000 6.0 is a monitoring software specially designed
for RS-232 or USB intelligent UPS. It plays a vital role in
power management. When the mains power supply is stable,
this software can accurately display real-time data such as
UPS input and output voltage, frequency, load status,
temperature, and battery capacity with intuitive data and
graphical interfaces, providing users with convenient power
supply quality, monitoring means. At the same time, through
the network remote monitoring function, UPSilon 2000 6.0
breaks the space limitation and allows users to manage power
resources more efficiently.

When the mains power interrupted or the UPS battery power


is low, UPSilon 2000 6.0 demonstrates its excellent
unmanned monitoring capabilities. It can not only
automatically execute external programs to achieve safe
storage and safe system shutdown, but also adds the function
of automatic alarm information transmission through multiple
channels, including email, mobile phone text messages and
instant messaging software notifications, etc.. To ensure that
users can receive the alarm information in the first time and
take corresponding countermeasures, thus avoiding system or
file damage caused by the interruption of municipal power.

It is worth mentioning that UPSilon 2000 6.0 has powerful


automation features and can start executing the monitoring
program before the user logs in to the computer, realizing
fully automatic UPS management without manual
intervention. In addition, it also supports multi-language
display, providing flexible language choices for global users,
making software settings and operations more convenient.

2. Hardware Installation
1. Please make sure to connect the correct communication
cable between UPS and the PC. UPSilon could be connects
with four different types of cable as below to adopt for
different type of UPS usage.

RS232 cable to connect it to UPS.

3.1. Features

3.2.1. Install UPSilon

3.2.1.1. CD media
UPSilon will auto detect local language of your system dueing
installation. If language does not supported, it will install and
display in English interface.
Insert UPSilon CD into CD-ROM and it will show options as
below. Click on【 Install Program】 【UPSilon 2000 for
Windows】 to execute installation.

3.2.1.2. Installation Guide paper card


Users can refer to the Installation Guide paper card in 12
languages. The paper card is divided into A and B pages. There
is a software download link and QR code at the bottom of the A
page, and the software registration serial number is at the
bottom of the B page, as shown in the figure below.

All UPSilon Files will be copy to the default directory


C:\Program Files\Megatec\UPSilon 2000 or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Megatec\UPSilon 2000.

After the installation is completed, you will see the permanent


UPSilon 2000 icon on the taskbar, and you will see the UPSilon
2000 directory in [Assemblies] or [All Programs].

3.2.2. Remove UPSilon


After the installation is completed, there will be three options
as shown in the figure below under the UPSilon 2000 item in
the Windows start menu. If you want to uninstall UPSilon 2000
from the system, please select "UPSilon Uninstall".

Activate UPSilon and UPS connection
1. Please confirm that the system and UPS have used the
correct cables and connect correctly, and that the UPS is
operating normally.
2. Right-click the UPSilon 2000 icon on the taskbar and
select [Open UPSilon] to start the UPSilon 2000 main
interface.

3. Click [Configuration] to enter the parameter setting


area. Select your UPS communication type and serial
communication port in the [General] tab. Here, the
MegaTec communication protocol and COM1
communication port are used as an example. After the
selection is completed, please press [Apply] to submit
the settings. If the communication with UPS is normal,
you will see the "UPS Connection" event in the latest
event in the upper right corner.

There are three sections on the main menu of UPSilon 2000:

3.4.1. UPS latest event display area


This display area can scroll and display the latest five UPS
events in real time, and you can scroll down to view more
events.
Its content includes the date, hours, minutes and seconds of the
event as well as the event content.

This quick setting jump area displays the most commonly used
setting functions by users in the form of small icons, including
“Help”, “General”, “Email”, “SMS” and “Interface Language”.
When the user clicks on a small icon, the function display area
will quickly switch to the corresponding settings page.

Japanese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and

After the software installed, you can select functions in the
“Function Selection Area” and view UPS data or set parameters
in the “Function Display Area”. The parameter values of each
function will affect whether the UPSilon 2000 program can
operate normally, please correctly sets the software and
hardware environment of the computer system and the
parameter values of various functions provided by UPSilon.

a) Basic UPS information: Voltage Rating, Frequency
Rating, Battery Voltage Rating, UPS Manufacturer, UPS
Version and UPS Model.
b) UPS status: whether AC is normal, whether the battery
capacity is normal, battery status, bypass mode, UPS
self-test and other information. When an abnormal state
occurs here, the icon will flash to indicate it.
c) Relevant battery information: Time on Battery,
Shutdown System Countdown, Estimated Battery
Remaining Time, etc.

UPS Manufacturer, UPS Model, and UPS Version; UPS rated
information, covering Voltage Rating, Current Rating, Battery

If you need to issue instructions directly to the UPS, please
select the operation option you need to perform under this
function, and then press [Apply].

3.4.3.4. Configuration

A. General

 Communication Type:
To connect to your UPS normally, you first need to confirm the
communication type between UPSilon and the UPS. To ensure
that the communication type you select is accurate, it
recommended that you consult your UPS supplier directly for
professional guidance. The type of communication with the
UPS can select from the drop-down menu here.

 Communication Port:
If you are using RS232 to connect to the UPS, and then confirm
which RS232 port, the computer will use to connect to the UPS.
UPSilon2000 will automatically detect all RS232 ports
provided and opened on the computer motherboard.

 Slave Password
A set of passwords can be set here. This set of passwords has
the following two functions.
1) In the Master/Slave online mode, remote Slave access to
the Master requires this password to establish a
connection with the Master. This password can prevent
unauthorized remote connection access. (Please refer to
P38 for Master/Slave online mode)
2) Prevent unauthorized modification of UPSilon
parameter settings. Please note that if you lose this
password, you will not be able to change the UPSilon
configuration. Reinstalling the software can clear the
password.

 Use Master/Slave to Shutdown


Enable shutdown mode => Computer hosts that do not have
direct communication connections with the UPS can use this
mode. As an UPSilon Slave device through the network, it
communicates directly with the UPS through the Master host.
Slave can also obtain UPS status messages and data logs
remotely, or obtain automatic shutdown protection when there
is an abnormality in the power supply.
Cancel the shutdown mode => Slave will not be able to connect
to the Master, and the online Slave will disconnect.

 Slave Address:
When enabling the Master/Slave shutdown mode, please first
set the IP address of the Slave computer that is allowed to
connect on the Master computer. Up to four slave computers
are allowed to connect; and each Slave computer also needs to
set the IP address of the Master computer.

saving “Event Log” and “Data Log”. If the content of the log
file downloaded using the default encoding method is garbled,
it is recommended to try switching to other encoding methods
and download again.

B. Warning Threshold
Here set the warning thresholds for UPS load, temperature and
battery capacity. It closely related to the email, SMS and App
alarm functions. Once the load, temperature or battery capacity
of the UPS reaches or exceeds the critical value, the software
will trigger the relevant alarm mechanism.

3.4.3.5. Shutdown
When the software detects a shutdown signal, the computer
should execute the shutdown or hibernation function, as well as
the UPS shutdown function. Users can choose whether to
perform these functions based on actual needs to ensure that the
computer and UPS can operate in the preset manner when the
UPS power supply is abnormal or the system needs to be
shutdown.

◎After AC Failure, Commence Computer Shutdown Sequence in
(0-2880):
Set the time that the battery can maintain system operation after
AC Failure. Please refer to the instructions in the UPS hardware
manual or contact the UPS manufacturer first.
Setting range: 0 ~ 2880 minutes. Default value: 10 minutes

◎If Low Battery Occurs, Commence Shutdown Sequence


in(0-600 ):
Set the time that the UPS can maintain system operation when
the battery capacity is low. It is recommended that the smaller
the value, the better.
Setting range: 0 ~ 600 minutes. Default: 0 minutes

◎After AC Failuer, Commence Computer Shutdown Sequence


lower than battery capacity(1-100%):
Set to start shutting down the computer when the battery
capacity is lower than this capacity.
Setting range: 1 ~ 100%. Default value: 20%

◎ Shutdown OS:
Set whether to shut down your own operating system. The
shutdown method can select: shutdown or hibernation
(if you want the hibernation option, please check "Enable
Hibernation" first)

◎Optional Command File to Execute:


It is up to the user to set the name of the program to execute
before the computer system is shut down. (Please enter the
complete path and file name)
Note: If you execute a program that cannot exit automatically,
it will cause the Windows system and UPS to fail to shut down.

◎Turn Off UPS:


Set to turn off the UPS output.
Note: When the power of computer system and UPS turned off,
do not cut off the power switch, otherwise the UPS and
computer will not be able to turn on the warning message
automatically when the mains power restore.

3.4.3.6. Warning

 Enable Pop-up Messages


When UPSilon detects events such as UPS disconnection/
connection, AC failure, or UPS battery low level, whether to
display a warning message in the lower right corner of the
screen to notify the user.
◎Pop-Up Warning message every (10-600):
When AC failure, UPS battery is low, or UPS is scheduled to
shutdown, the program displays a countdown warning message
which pops up at this set time interval.
Setting range: 10 ~ 600 seconds. Default: 30 seconds
◎Warning Message Window Appearance:
Windows system style and software customization style can
select. This window is a floating window and will not interrupt
the user's view interaction with UPSilon or other software.
After the window pops up, it will automatically close after
about 5-8 seconds.

3.4.3.7. Email

 Enable Email Warning:


Set up warning messages for all or any of events detected by
UPSilon, and send it to the system management via email.

◎Sender Display Name: Set the name of the "sender" of the


email.
◎Sender Email Address: Set the sender's email address for
sending emails.
◎SMTP Server Address: Set SMTP mail server address: IP or
domain name (for example: 210.71.130.1 or megatec.com.tw)
(please refer to the official instructions for using email)
◎SMTP Server Port: Set the SMTP mail server port.
◎Server Require Authentication: Some mail servers require
password authentication, which users can set here.

◎Test: After you have finished setting the email, you can click
this button to send a test email to determine whether the email
settings are correct.
◎Notified Email Address When Event Occurs: Here set the
recipient email address to receive alert emails. Four email
addresses can be set, and each email address can customize to set
which UPS events it needs to receive.

UPSilon supports the setting of one-time, daily, weekly, and
monthly automatic tasks, including turn on UPS, shutdown OS
(operating system) and UPS, and performing self-tests. These
functions do not require specialized management, allowing the
UPS to realize automatic scheduled power on and off and
self-test.

3.4.3.13. Self-Test Log


On the left side of the page, you can clearly see whether there is
a UPS self-test log in the current month.
The upper right side of the page displays all records of the UPS
self-test that have performed, detailing the test date and time,
record duration/number of records. When you select any test
record, the corresponding curve graph will generate and
display on the lower right side of the page.
Based on the selected UPS self-test record, UPSilon will
estimate and display at the bottom of the page, under the
current UPS capacity (or fully charged) and current load
conditions, the remaining time that the UPS can maintain power
supply once the utility power fails.
The No. of the UPS self-test record is in red font and marked with
*, which means that UPSilon is currently using this test record
as a reference record.
