IV. PROCEDURES
To begin the session, the teacher will briefly recall the previous lesson about physical fitness and its importance to the body.
Students will be asked to recall specific components of physical fitness and how movement and physical activity contribute to
wellness. This acts as a bridge to the current topic.
A. Reviewing previous lesson or
presenting the new lesson Transitioning to the new lesson, the teacher will introduce the topic by presenting an engaging multimedia slideshow that includes
diverse dance forms across various civilizations (e.g., Classical Ballet from France/Russia, Bharatanatyam from India, Tribal Dance
from the Philippines, African Tribal Dances, and Hip-hop from the USA). Short clips and cultural facts will be shown to arouse
curiosity and foster appreciation for dance as a global art form.
B. Establishing a purpose for the The teacher will explain that today’s lesson will explore dance not just as an expressive art form but also as a way to understand

health, body mechanics, and safety. Students will learn how dance contributes to one’s physical and psychological well-being, how
to prevent common injuries through proper technique and warm-ups, and how to appreciate the discipline and cultural essence of
dance.
lesson
The teacher will state:
“Dance is more than movement—it's a universal language that reflects culture, builds health, and requires discipline. This lesson
aims to prepare your body and mind to engage with dance safely and meaningfully.”
The teacher will present various real-life examples to deepen understanding:
1. Artistic Significance:
o Ancient Egyptians used dance for spiritual rituals.
o Native Filipinos use dance to celebrate harvest and express community life.
o Modern-day hip-hop dance emerged as a cultural protest and artistic expression in marginalized communities.
2. Health Benefits:
o Cardiovascular endurance improved through Zumba or aerobic dance.
C. Presenting examples/instances of
o Stress reduction and improved mood seen in regular dance participants.
the new lesson
o Social bonding through group dance classes (folk, ballroom, etc.).
3. Injury Risk Factors:
o Intrinsic: Poor posture, weak muscles, fatigue, anatomical misalignment.
o Extrinsic: Unsafe flooring, improper shoes, overtraining, poor warm-up.

Each example is supported by visuals, diagrams, and infographics projected onscreen or provided in handouts.

The teacher will lead a structured discussion on the following key concepts:
 Definition of Dance: Dance is a rhythmic movement of the body, usually to music, used as a form of expression,
performance, and communication, and deeply tied to rituals, culture, and community.
 Historical and Cultural Significance: Each civilization had distinct dance forms reflective of their beliefs, traditions, and
way of life.
 Physical and Psychological Benefits:
D. Discussing new concepts and o Improved cardiovascular health and muscular strength
practicing new skills # 1 o Enhanced flexibility and coordination
o Stress relief and reduced anxiety
o Boosted self-esteem and emotional expression

Students will be asked to work in pairs to reflect on one dance form from any culture they are familiar with, research its cultural
background, and list at least three physical or emotional benefits associated with it.

E. Discussing new concepts and The teacher will present and explain:
practicing new skills # 2  Common Risk Factors for Injury:
o Intrinsic: Muscle imbalance, fatigue, poor technique, inadequate rest
o Extrinsic: Uneven or slippery floor, inappropriate dance attire or shoes, poor lighting
 Importance of Proper Warm-ups and Body Alignment:
o Prepares muscles and joints for movement
o Increases blood flow and range of motion
o Reduces chances of sprains, strains, and other injuries
kfv
The teacher will model a 5-minute warm-up routine consisting of:
 Light cardio (e.g., jogging in place)
 Dynamic stretching (e.g., arm swings, leg kicks)
 Mobility exercises (e.g., hip circles, shoulder rolls)

Students will mimic each movement with emphasis on posture, alignment, and control.

Activity Title: Dance Doctor Challenge

Objective: Reinforce concepts through an engaging and interactive group activity.
Instructions:
1. Divide the class into groups of 5.
2. Each group will be given one dance scenario card that contains a short problem (e.g., "A dancer complains of ankle pain
after practice. The floor was slippery.").
F. Developing mastery (leads to 3. The group must:
Formative Assessment 3) o Identify the intrinsic/extrinsic risk factor
o Suggest a warm-up or safety technique to prevent the issue
o State at least two physical or psychological benefits if the dancer continues dancing safely
4. Each group will present their findings creatively (e.g., skit, infographic poster, or short role-play).

The teacher will observe group participation, accuracy of content, and clarity of presentation.

The teacher will facilitate a reflective discussion on how the concepts learned today can be applied in students' daily lives:
 Using proper posture and warm-up before any physical activity, not just dance
 Incorporating dance or movement to maintain mental health and reduce sedentary behavior
 Valuing cultural dances as a way to connect with one’s heritage or learn about others
G. Finding practical application of
 Being mindful of body signals to avoid injury
concepts and skills in daily living
Students will be encouraged to share their own experiences of dancing, exercising, or even experiencing injuries and how the new
knowledge can help them do better.

The class will consolidate their learning through guided abstraction:

 Dance is a powerful form of artistic and cultural expression that also serves as a tool for physical and mental wellness.
 Engaging in dance requires awareness of one’s physical capabilities, the environment, and the importance of technique.
H. Making generalizations and  Safety measures like warming up, proper alignment, and understanding of risk factors are essential for injury prevention.
abstractions about the lesson  Valuing discipline and safety in dance reflects a deeper respect for the art form and for one’s own health.

Students will write a 3-5 sentence reflection in their notebooks summarizing their understanding.

I. Evaluating learning Written Formative Assessment:

The teacher will distribute a short quiz composed of the following:
 Part I: Define “dance” and identify two dance forms from different civilizations.
 Part II: List three physical and two psychological benefits of dancing.
 Part III: Identify two intrinsic and two extrinsic risk factors in dance injuries.
kfv
 Part IV: Describe two proper warm-up techniques and explain their benefits.
 Part V: In a short paragraph, explain the importance of discipline and safety in dance.

Rubrics will be used to assess comprehension and articulation.

For Application (Advance Students):

Assign a short research project where students create a simple presentation (digital or poster-based) on a traditional dance from
their local culture or another country. They must explain the dance's purpose, cultural significance, benefits, and safety
considerations.
J. Additional activities for application
or remediation
For Remediation (Students Needing Support):
Provide a simplified worksheet with visuals covering warm-up techniques and basic dance terms, followed by a short one-on-one or
small group review with the teacher to clarify key concepts and benefits of dance.
