Introduction: This document is intended to be a living document. Any text in black at the top
of the document has been written and approved by me. Anything in blue is still a work in
progress. Feel free to add anything else to the end of the document.

Where is the Player aid?

The player aid for the game is actually at the back of the Book of Chapters. It is
recommended to download the online rulebook and print out this page so that players have
easy access to it during the game.

If I am playing solo, how many monsters should start in play?

Two. One for each hero.

What is the exact process of playing cards and resolving icons?

On your turn, you can play any number of cards from your hand to a card pool in front of
you. At the end of your turn, all the cards in your pool, along with any cards remaining in
your hand are placed in your discard pile.

Each card has icons at the top that show what actions the card lets you do. These icons may
be resolved at any time on your turn, not just when the card is played. Each icon on a card
can only be used once on your turn.

Examples:
● You could play a card with 1 Move and 1 Shield. You could use the 1 Move, but save
the Shield until later in your turn. You can then use a location, then play another card
with a Move icon, move again, then play a card with 2 Swords, attack a monster, and
use the Shield from the first card you played to prevent the damage you take in
return.
● You could play a card with 2 Swords on it, use one of them, then play another card
with 1 Move, use that, and then use your remaining Sword from your first card.

When playing an advanced item card, you must decide whether to play it for the free actions,
or pay the Dust to use the improved section.
And what about skills?
On your turn, you can also activate one or more skills from your skill track. Essentially,
moving your skill marker to the next box to generate the icons listed below. These icons are
used in a similar way to the other icons you have generated from playing cards and you are
free to use these during your turn however you want.
You can only use the skill track once for each game/chapter (once your skill marker reaches
the third skill, it will not circle back to the first one).

For example, you have the skill track shown to the

right. You could move your skill marker to the first skill
and then the second one to generate two boots and
two swords for that turn. You could then use a boot to
move, use both swords, and then move again. All
without playing any cards.

Is the Player aid that explains Advanced Items correct?

To be honest, no. It is badly worded and very misleading.

For example, the description of this card…

This should be: Generates 2 sword icons, OR spend 1 Dust to generate 3 sword icons.

Because these cards give you icons which you can split up and use on your turn however
you want to.

Can multiple heroes occupy the same space?

Yes

What exactly is an action?

The rulebook unfortunately seems to use the same term for “group of icons” and “one icon”.
In most places of the rulebook, an “action” refers to 1 or more icons grouped together.

For example, on an advanced item card, you can do the top “action” for free, or the bottom
“action” if you pay 1 Dust. The “action” in this case is all of the icons together - even though
you can actually split up the use of those icons over the course of your turn.

However, in other parts of the rulebook, the term “action” is used when referring to a specific
icon.
How exactly does combat work?
Each Sword icon used allows a hero to do 1 point of damage to the monster on the adjacent
monster space.
Each Bow icon used allows the hero to do 1 point of damage to a monster within the
indicated range but cannot be used to deal damage to an adjacent monster.

Important: Multiple icons can be combined together to do one single attack.

For each damage dealt to a monster, place a damage token on the monster card. Once a
monster has a number of damage tokens on it equal to its Toughness, it is defeated.

When a monster is defeated, remove the card from the mat and place it on a discard pile off
to one side. The hero who defeated the monster gains the reward as indicated on the
monster card.

For each the monster has, one point of damage from a Sword attack is cancelled.

If a hero attacks a monster with a Sword attack, for each the monster has, the hero
takes 1 damage in return. This happens after the hero’s attack but is still applied, even if the
monster is defeated.

Whenever a hero takes damage, 1 point of damage is cancelled for each they use.

If a hero attacks a monster (with either Sword or Bow), for each the monster has, the
hero loses 1 toughness. This is effectively the same as taking damage, but cannot be
cancelled by shields.

What happens when a hero takes damage?

For each damage (or loss of toughness) that a hero takes, remove one of their toughness
tokens (from top to bottom) from their player board and place it to one side.
Once the last token is removed, read the rules for “Hero return procedure” on page 9:
- As soon as one of the heroes dies (even an inactive one), the game pausesstops;
- All the “mortally” wounded heroes are moved to location 7 (spot nearest to the
castle), where all their ToughnessThoughness is fully restored;
- The active player reveals and resolves 2 cards from the game/monster deck (instead
of 1), then their turn ends and the game resumes as normal.

Do I get the reward from a monster if I defeat it with Range attack?

Yes.
What happens when the Scout or Sorceress use their Fairy?
Hero specific fairies are returned to the hero’s box once used; they do not go to the used
fairy pile.

How do I remove the Cave in?

You need to apply 3 swords to it in one turn.

Does the game end from the game deck running out?
Yes, this is explained on page 7, but unfortunately missing from page 9.
If you need to draw a card from the deck, but you cannot, because it is empty, you lose.

How do the icons work?

If an icon has the helmet icon on it, you may use the effect on another hero (as long as they
agree). These effects are carried out on your turn, when you choose to resolve the icon.

Threat Tokens
Threat tokens are attached to a location.
They can be removed by using the location action of location 7 (spend 3 active dust tokens
to remove a threat) or one of the spirits/fairies.
ERRATA

How many Monster damage tokens are there?

The rulebook says 21, but there are actually 30

How exactly does the <INSERT NAME OF HAND GRENADE CARD HERE> work?
The English rulebook explanation is incorrect. It should say:
Range attack at range 1 to the left, Attack for 1 damage, Range attack at range 1 to the
right.
OR spend 1 Dust to Range attack at range 1 to the left, Attack for 2 damage, Range attack
at range 1 to the right.

Polish edition misprint. Chapter 3.

One of the “Magic storm” tokens shows 2 Dust, but the rulebook only says 1, which is
correct?
The token is correct, it should be 2 Dust.

German edition misprint.

When a hero loses all of their toughness, you are supposed to reveal two cards from the
game deck, instead of 1. The German rulebook has this written the other way around.
CHAPTER 1 QUESTIONS

Can you “use” the Conflagration location?

Technically, no. The text on this location lists the rules for removing Fire tokens (wherever
they are). However, you only get the rewards for putting out fires on the Conflagration
location.
Any fire you put out on other locations will not result in the reward stated on the
Conflagration card.
Note: This is a rules change from a previous ruling.

How does the Fire Elemental work?

The Fire Elemental has both and . This means that when you attack it, you lose
1 toughness no matter what type of attack it was. You also take 1 damage if you attack it
with a Sword (which can be cancelled with a Shield).

When defeated, you may remove 1 Fire token from a location of your choice. The reward for
removing a Fire token only applies if the Fire token is removed from the Conflagration card.

Both ‘Damage from being in fire’ hero’s turn and ‘Draw a card from the game deck’
both happen at the end of a hero’s turn. Which comes first?
You take the damage from the fire first, and then draw a card. If drawing a card triggers an
event which moves you to a space with fire, you do not take another damage.

How does a rat interact with a Trap?

If the rat is on a monster that moves through the trap, the rat is defeated by the trap and the
monster passes unaffected (no matter what the strength of the trap was).

Can I still use the action of a location if there is a fire token there?
Yes.

Where are Fire tokens drawn from, when requested by specific cards (2x Fire cards,
3x Firesnake cards)?
In both cases, you use the pool of fire tokens lying next to the board.
CHAPTER 2 QUESTIONS

Can ranged attacks be performed through the Gate?

No

Does ranged damage against the ‘Magic eater’ recover Dust?

Yes

CHAPTER 3 QUESTIONS

If you defeat a keyholder with a ranged weapon, do you receive the keys?
Yes. Note however, you cannot attack through a locked gate.

CHAPTER 4/5 QUESTIONS

None yet - if you have any, let me know!

Additional Notes (things that could be improved if there was a new printing)

The player aid should be a separate sheet.

Game Setup should be near the start of the rulebook, not at the back.

There should be a link in the rulebook to videos helping you learn the game - not on the back
of the box.

There should be a guide on how to put the boxes together.

Look at renaming the “game deck” to “dungeon deck” and clarifying how this is created for
each game.

The terminology of what is an action and what isn’t could be improved.
