Cambridge B1 Preliminary (PET) - Grammar Lessons

1. Present Simple vs Present Continuous

Usage: Habits, routines vs actions happening now

Examples:

- I go to school every day.

- She is studying English now.

2. Past Simple

Usage: Completed actions in the past

Examples:

- I visited Colombo last week.

- He watched a movie yesterday.

3. Past Continuous

Usage: Action in progress at a past time or interrupted by another action

Examples:

- I was reading when she called.

4. Present Perfect

Usage: Life experiences, actions with results in the present

Examples:

- I have never been to Italy.

- She has already finished her homework.

5. Will vs Going to

Usage: Future decisions vs planned actions

Examples:

- I will help you.


- I am going to visit my uncle.

6. Comparative and Superlative Adjectives

Examples:

- This book is better than that one.

- She is the tallest in the class.

7. Modals: can, must, should, might

Usage: Ability, advice, obligation, possibility

Examples:

8. Zero, First and Second Conditionals

Say/tell + changes in tenses

Examples:

- She asked if I liked coffee.

18. Relative Clauses

Who, which, that

Examples:

- The man who lives next door is a doctor.
