1.0 Background
The Regional Universities Forum for Capacity Building in Agriculture (RUFORUM) in partnership with Mastercard
Foundation, Gulu University (Uganda), Egerton University (Kenya), Africa University (Zimbabwe), University of
Free State (South Africa), Malawi University of Science and Technology (Malawi), University of Eldoret (Kenya),
Uganda Martyrs University (Uganda), University of Port Harcourt (Nigeria), University of Cape Coast (Ghana),
University of Bamenda (Cameroon), National University of Agriculture (Benin), and Université Mohammed VI
Polytechnique (Morocco) are implementing a 10 year programme (2023-2033) called Transforming African
Agricultural Universities to Meaningfully Contribute to Africa’s Growth and Development (TAGDev 2.0). The
programme seeks to strengthen universities and TVET institutions to better serve communities by skilling and
empowering Africa’s young people and their institutions to drive inclusive, equitable and climate resilient
transformation of agriculture and agrifood systems. The TAGDev 2.0 programme will support young African
students that are economically disadvantaged but academically competent to access university education. The
scholarship is open to both female and male applicants. However, females, refugees, internally displaced persons,
and persons with disabilities are highly encouraged to apply.
2.0 Eligible Programmes
This call for Scholarships for the 2025/2026 academic year is open to applicants interested in and eligible to study
Bachelor of Science in Agriculture, Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Extension and Community Development,
Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness, Bachelor of Science in Horticulture, Master of Philosophy in Molecular Biology
and Biotechnology, Master of Philosophy in Agricultural Extension, Master of Philosophy in Aquaculture, Master of
Philosophy in Crop Science Programme at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.
2.1. Admission requirements to the University of Cape Coast and the specific academic programmes
Bachelors Admission Requirements
Programmes
BSc. Agriculture WASSCE/SSSCE: Applicants should have credit passes in six (6) subjects with an
overall aggregate of 36/24 at the WASSCE/SSSCE respectively. Three of the six
subjects should be in English Language, Core Mathematics, Integrated Science or
Social Studies and three must be in relevant electives.
For purposes of admission, credits pass in:
i. WASSCE means A1 – C6
ii. SSSCE means A – D
In addition, candidates must have credit passes in three (3) Elective Subjects under
any of the options listed below:
OPTION ONE: General Agriculture, Chemistry and any one other
Science/Agriculture subject
OPTION TWO: Chemistry, Biology and Physics/Elective Mathematics
OPTION THREE: Any three subjects from the following Agricultural Science
Electives (General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry,
Agricultural Mechanization, Fisheries and Forestry).
• General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level: Applicants should, in
addition to credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English and
Mathematics), have three (3) passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced
Level.
• International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE): Applicants
should have credit passes in five (5) GCE ‘O’ Level subjects (including English
and Mathematics) and three (3) passes in the relevant subjects at the Advanced
Level.
• International Baccalaureate (IB): Applicants should have a minimum of grade 4
at the Higher Level in three (3) subjects relevant to the Programme of choice
(minimum of grade 5 for Health and Allied Sciences). Applicants should, in
addition, have a minimum of grade 4 in English/Literature and Mathematics (SL).
• Mature applicants: The candidate must be above 25 years old at the time of the
application. In addition, they must possess GCE “O” level or SSSCE/WASSCE
credit passes in English Language and Core Mathematics. Candidates who do
not have the required “O” Level/SSSCE/WASSCE passes will be required to take
Special Entrance Examination papers in the two subjects.
• Relevant professional certificates and tertiary level diplomas: Entry at levels 200
and 300 depending on the assessment of the diploma or certificate.

BSc Agricultural To qualify for admission, an applicant must meet the following minimum

i. Candidates must have a maximum aggregate of 20 and pass the following core
subjects: English Language, Mathematics, and Integrated Science.
ii. In addition to the above, candidates must have passed not lower than D7 (C) in
elective subjects under options 1, 2 or 3 below:
OPTION ONE: General Agriculture, Chemistry, Physics/Elective Mathematics
OPTION TWO: Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Elective Mathematics
OPTION THREE: UCC Remedial Agriculture, Remedial Science Programme,
Biology/Horticulture/Agro-Forestry.
Post-Diploma Candidates: Candidate must possess a Diploma in Agriculture (at least
a Second-Class Lower Division) from a recognised institution together with (5) credit
passes at GCE ‘O’ Level in English Language and Mathematics and at least three
(3) other science subjects or six (6) passes (3 core and 3 elective subjects in
WASSCE) with at least two in science subjects. All postdiploma candidates must
pass a selection interview.
BSc Agribusiness To qualify for admission, an applicant must meet the following minimum
requirements:
SSCE/WASSCE Applicants
a. Candidates must possess Credit passes (C6 for WASSCE and D for SSSCE) in
the 3 Core subjects (English Language, Mathematics and Integrated
Science/Social Studies)
b. In addition, candidates must have Credit passes in three (3) Elective Subjects
under any of the options listed below:
OPTION ONE: Any three subjects from General Agriculture, Chemistry, Physics,
Elective Mathematics and Biology.
OPTION TWO: Any three subjects from Chemistry, Biology Physics and Elective
Mathematics.
OPTION THREE: Any three subjects from the following Agricultural Science
Electives: General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Animal Husbandry,
Fisheries and Forestry.
OPTION FOUR: Three passes in technical courses including at least one science
subject.
OPTION FIVE: Three passes in Visual Art Courses include at least one science
subject.
OPTION SIX: Three passes in Home Economics courses including at least one
science subject.
OPTION SEVEN: Three passes in courses in General Arts or Business.
• Mature Applicants: Mature applicants must have attained the age of 25 years or
above with proof of having attained secondary school education (GCE or
SSCE/WASSCE). These applicants shall be made to write and pass mature
applicants’ entrance exams and an interview. Candidates in the above
categories will be admitted into level 100
• Diploma Certificate Applicants: Diploma holders in any field of Agriculture from
a recognized institution with a minimum of Second Class Lower Division will be
considered for admission at Level 300. Candidates must pass a selection
interview.
• Post-Secondary Certificate Applicants: Candidates with post-secondary
teacher’s certificate or certificate from agricultural training colleges will be
considered for admission into level 200 or 300 depending on their performance
at the post-secondary certificate level. Candidates must pass a selection
interview.
Foreign student applicants: Foreign students may be admitted based on
qualifications from their home country, for which the Ghana Tertiary Education
Commission (GTEC) shall determine equivalences and eligibility based on the NAB
Act 2007 (Act 744, 2-2b). Evidence of proficiency in English will be required in the
case of applicants from non-English-speaking countries.

BSc Horticulture WASSCE and SSCE Holders:
1. The candidate must possess credit passes not lower than C6 for WASSCE and
D for SSSCE in three (3) Core Subjects including English Language and
Mathematics.
2. In addition, candidates must have credit passes in three (3) elective subjects
under any of the options below:
OPTION ONE: General Agriculture, Chemistry and any one other
Science/Agriculture subject
OPTION TWO: Chemistry, Biology and Physics/Elective Mathematics
OPTION THREE: Any three subjects from the following Agricultural Science
Electives – General Agriculture, Crop Husbandry and Horticulture, Animal
Husbandry, Fisheries and Forestry.
OPTION FOUR: Three passes in technical courses including at least one
science subject.
OPTION FIVE: Three passes in Visual Art courses including at least one science

The overall aggregate for the six subjects, under the options must not exceed
36 (WASSCE) or 24 (SSSCE).
Diploma/Certificate Holders
To qualify for admission into the Programme, candidates must satisfy all of the
following requirements
1. Must possess a Diploma/certificate in Agriculture, or a related field from a
recognized institution.
2. Must pass a selection interview.
Successful applicants will start at either level 200 or 300, depending on the
assessment of certificates/transcripts and the outcome of the interview.
Mature Students:
1. The candidate must be at least 25 years old by 31st December of the year
preceding the admission.
2. a. The candidate must have G.C.E. “O” Level or SSSCE/WASSCE credit passes
in English Language and Core Mathematics
b. Candidates who do not have the required “O” level/SSSCE/WASSCE passes
will be required to take a Special Entrance Examination in the two subjects.
3. The candidate must take the Mature Students’ Entrance Examination organized
by the University of Cape Coast.

Masters Admission Requirements
Programmes
M.Phil. Molecular Entry requirements for entry into MPhil Programmes are spelt out in the School of
Biology and Graduate Studies Academic Policy Guidelines of UCC. A candidate seeking
Biotechnology admission to the MPhil Molecular Biology and Biotechnology Programme must:
i. Have obtained a good first degree in Molecular Biology and
Biotechnology or Biological Sciences or in any relevant field of study from an
accredited tertiary institution.
ii. Non-researched master’s degree holder with a CGPA of 2.5 or better (top-up
to MPhil).
iii. Submit an official transcript of your academic record and a copy of your
certificate.
iv. Submit, at least, two reference reports, one of which must be from a former
lecturer.
v. Submit a research proposal in the intended area of research.
vi. Pass a selection interview where necessary.
M.Phil. Agricultural To be admitted to the Programme, a candidate must have obtained
Extension i. A good first degree at least Second-Class Lower Division or better from a
recognized institution or Cumulative Grade Point (CGPA) of 2.5 on a 1 - 4 scale
or its equivalence in agriculture or a related field.
ii. A considerable working experience preferably in Agriculture will be an advantage
but not a prerequisite
iii. Foreign students may be admitted based on qualification from their home
country for which the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) shall
determine equivalences and eligibility based on NAB Act 2007 (Act 744, 2-2b).
iv. Evidence of proficiency in English will be required for applicants from non-
English speaking countries.
MPhil Crop A first-degree holder seeking admission into the M.Phil. Programme must:

A successful applicant will be offered probationary admission as a Postgraduate
Research Student (PRS) for the first year. Students may progress to the second
year after having satisfied the following conditions:
i. Completed two semesters of coursework.
ii. Obtained a CGPA of 2.5 or better (An MPhil candidate who obtains a
CGPA between 2.00 and 2.49 may opt for a step-down MSc degree).
iii. Taken a course in academic writing and passed.
iv. Successfully defended a research proposal before a Departmental
examining panel
Non-research Master’s Degree holders seeking admission to the MPhil Programme
must:
i. Have obtained a CGPA of 2.5 or better in the master’s coursework.
ii. Submit an official transcript of your academic record.
iii. Submit at least, two reference reports, one of which must be from a former
lecturer.
iv. Submit a proposal of 2-3 pages on the intended area of study, including a
bibliography.
v. Satisfy any additional requirement that may be prescribed by the
College/School/Department from time to time.

MPhil Aquaculture Candidates applying for the M. Phil. programme in Aquaculture must have;
i. At least a Second Class (Lower Division) B. Sc. degree in the Biological
Sciences with evidence of knowledge based on the student’s transcript.

Agriculture Extension) with at least a Second Class (Lower Division)
