Assignment/Tutorial sheet 2
10𝑠
1. Given T(s)= 𝑠 𝑠
(1+ 2 )(1+ 5 )
10 10
a) Plot magnitude and phase response
b) Identify poles and zeroes
c) Estimate the corner frequencies, unity gain frequencies
d) Using bode’s approximation, sketch the phase and frequency

2. In the voltage regulator circuit shown, the Op amp is ideal. The BJT has VBE=0.7V and β=100 and the
Zener voltage is 4.7V. for a regulated output of 9V, find the value of R

3. In the Op amp circuit shown, assume that the diode current follows the equation I = Is exp (V/VT). for
Vi = 2V, V0=V01, and Vi= 4V, V0=V02. Find the relationship between V01 and V02

4. Consider the following circuit using an ideal Op-amp. The I-V characteristics of the diode is
𝑉
described by the relation I=I0 (𝑒 ⁄𝑉𝑇 -1), where VT=25mV, I0=1µA, and V is the voltage across the
diode (taken as positive for forward bas). For an input voltage Vi =-1V, find the output voltage.
5. Determine the 3-dB cut-off frequency of the closed loop amplifier shown in the below figure, if
k=1000 V/V and B=0.2.

6. An op-amp data sheet gives Zin = 2 M, Zout = 75 , and voltage gain response with frequency as
shown in Fig (a). If the op-amp-based circuit shown in Fig. (b) is designed to operate at 103 Hz, then
determine:
(i) Unity-gain bandwidth
(ii) input and output impedances
(iii) closed-loop gain.

Fig (a) Fig (b)

7. Consider a three-pole amplifier with a loop gain function given by

1000
T( f )  2
 f  f 
1  j 3 1  j 5 
 10  10 

(i) Explain that the amplifier is stable or unstable.

(ii) If the system is unstable then stabilize the circuit by inserting a new dominant pole. Assume the
original poles are not altered.

8. Draw the output waveform for the following positive clipper with the given input, for Vref=1V, -1V
9. Draw the output waveform for the following negative clipper with the given input, for Vref= -1V

10. Draw the output waveform for the following clamper with the positive and negative reference voltage
