GSL - The Republic of Poland

The rise of Artificial Intelligence poses significant challenges, including the risk of a digital divide that benefits only a few countries while excluding many others, particularly from the Global South. Fragmented governance and lack of accountability hinder effective AI regulation, leading to increased inequality and diminished global trust in AI systems. The UN emphasizes the need for inclusive and coordinated governance to harness AI's full potential and ensure equitable access for all.

GSL - THE REPUBLIC OF POLAND

he rapid and powerful rise of Artificial Intelligence presents a major challenge for the world. If
T
left ungoverned the world is going to fall into a massive digital divide. Which Limits the benefits
of AI to a few while the rest of the world is left behind. We also risk 'missing out' on AI's full
potential because of a lack of trust, fair access or not having the right tools.

major part of this issue is the concentration of decision making power. Equity demands that
A
more voices play meaningful roles in how we govern this technology. According to theUN's
report on “Governing AI for Humanity”, 7 countriesare part of all major international AI
efforts, while118 countries mostly from the Global South part are excluded.

ragmented governance both globally and within the UN makes this worse. Different nations

and bodies are creatingseparate and often conflicting rules, which risk creating adivided AI
ecosystem. Even theUN lacks internal coordination, as no single body handles AI
thoroughly.

nd even when countries are “represented,” realaccountabilityis missing. The current

system lacksimplementation, especially in training, access to technology {capacity

weakens global trust in AI systems.

s noted by the UN in its Interim ReportAI governanceis crucial not just to reduce the

challenges and risks, but to ensure that we utilize AI’s potential in ways that leaves no one
behind.
AI knows no borders. And neither should the responsibilityto govern it.
