Mock Interview Script for IT Engineer Job

Mock Interview Script

Interviewer: Good morning! Please introduce yourself.

You: Good morning! My name is Rupa Kumari. I have completed my 10th and 12th from the Bihar Board and

am currently pursuing my MCA. I have a strong interest in IT and computer networking. I enjoy

troubleshooting systems and have hands-on experience with basic networking tools, Windows OS, and some

Linux commands. I am a quick learner and passionate about growing in the IT field.

Interviewer: Why do you want to work as an IT Engineer?

You: I've always been fascinated by how systems work together in a network. I enjoy solving technical

problems and helping others with computer issues. Being an IT Engineer allows me to use both my analytical

and practical skills. I see this as a career where I can keep learning and improving while supporting critical

technology needs.

Interviewer: Can you explain the difference between a switch and a router?

You: Yes. A switch connects multiple devices within a local area network (LAN) and uses MAC addresses to

send data to the correct device. A router connects different networks - for example, a LAN to the internet -

and uses IP addresses to route data between them.

Interviewer: What is the purpose of DNS?

You: DNS stands for Domain Name System. It converts human-friendly domain names like "google.com" into

IP addresses like "142.250.183.206", so browsers can load websites.

Interviewer: Do you know the layers of the OSI model?

You: Yes. The OSI model has seven layers:

1. Physical

2. Data Link

3. Network

4. Transport

5. Session

6. Presentation

7. Application

Each layer handles a specific function in data communication.

Interviewer: Have you worked with Linux before? Mention a few commands.

You: Yes, I've worked with Linux. Some basic commands I know are:

- ls - to list files

- cd - to change directory

- mkdir - to create a new folder

- sudo - to run commands with admin privileges

- ifconfig - to check IP address info

Interviewer: Tell me about a time you solved a technical problem.

You: During my MCA project, one of our lab computers wouldn't connect to the internet. I checked the

physical cables, restarted the system, and used ipconfig to check IP settings. I discovered the system had a

static IP conflict, so I reset it to use DHCP. After that, the internet worked fine.

Interviewer: What do you do when you don't know how to solve a technical issue?

You: First, I try to understand the issue clearly. If I can't solve it immediately, I research online, check

documentation, or ask a more experienced colleague. I believe in learning from such situations and noting

down the solution for future use.

Interviewer: Why should we hire you?

You: I'm dedicated, hardworking, and passionate about IT. I have strong fundamentals in networking and

system troubleshooting. I'm eager to learn, adapt quickly, and will bring a positive, problem-solving attitude to

your team.

Interviewer: Do you have any questions for us?

You: Yes, thank you. Could you please tell me more about the team I'll be working with and the kind of

projects I might be involved in?
