ASSESSMENT 2: MINI NETWORK PLAN
“TEENAGER’S BEDROOM SETUP”
SCENARIO CHOSEN:
A teenager wants to connect a gaming console, smart TV, and laptop to the internet in their
bedroom.
DEVICES NEEDED & JUSTIFICATION:
ROUTER/MODEM:
The router/modem combination serves as both the gateway to the internet and the central
component of the bedroom network. Through a cable or fibre line, it establishes a direct
connection to the Internet Service Provider (ISP), enabling online access for all connected
devices. The bedroom's internal Local Area Network (LAN) and external internet (WAN)
connections are managed by this combination device. It has Ethernet ports for traditional
connections and Wi-Fi for wireless ones. In other words, the kid may use this one gadget to
watch films, play games online, surf the internet, and finish their schoolwork. The
router/modem combination is the most important part of the configuration since without it,
there would be no internet connection at all.
WIRELESS ACCESS POINT OR WI-FI EXTENDER (OPTIONAL):
Wi-Fi extender or wireless access point would be convenient to increase and widen the
coverage of the internet to the room of the teenager, especially if the router is mounted
remotely. This device will connect itself to the home network and redistributes the Wi-Fi
more proportionately around the house, particularly in areas where the connection is weak or
weak. In the process, it sends a more reliable and robust signal to devices like the laptop and
smart TV. Improved coverage ensures seamless video streaming, faster downloads, and more
responsive online gaming without interruptions or delay.
SMART TV
The smart TV is wirelessly or through the Ethernet cable attached to the internet and is
basically used for entertainment. It enables the teenager to listen to music, TV programs, and
films from internet providers like Disney+, YouTube, or Netflix. As streaming requires
speedy and effortless internet connectivity, the smart TV must be effectively connected to the
home network through the router. Having a smart TV in the bedroom offers the user a never-
ending source of internet content without going through it via a computer or phone and also
maximizes the use of the available internet.
GAMING CONSOLE
The gaming console is utilized in playing video games offline and online, downloading large
game files, and streaming. For the best gaming performance, the console is connected to the
router through an Ethernet cable to ensure a fast and trustworthy connection to the
internet. Most online games require very low latency for good performance,
and even that can rule out the experience. The game console
also communicates with the online servers to chat with other players, download updates,
and gain access to game stores. Its seamless integration with the internet is essential for a
modern gaming station.
LAPTOP
The laptop is linked to the internet through Wi-Fi from the router. It is a do-it-all machine for
school work such as research, online classes, and assignments, casual gaming,
video conferencing, and streaming. Constant web connectivity allows the teenager to use
cloud resources like Google Docs or Microsoft Teams, browse learning material,
and chat with teachers and classmates. Wireless capability by the
laptop allows it to be easily moved around in the room without
needing a plug, but still be connected to the web.
ETHERNET CABLES
Ethernet cables are used to connect devices such as the smart TV and gaming console directly
to the router. Ethernet cables provide a better, faster, and more stable internet
connection compared to Wi-Fi, especially for activities involving a high-speed
internet such as online gaming and streaming. Using Ethernet reduces opportunities for lag,
buffering, or disconnection. It's a critical element of the network plan for maintaining internet
performance smoothly and uniformly for the devices that rely on it most.
POWER STRIP/SURGE PROTECTOR
A power strip or surge protector allows all of the teen's equipment to be plugged into
one convenient and secure location. It's especially helpful in a high-
tech bedroom with several devices that use electricity. Not only does it provide
adequate sockets for everyone but also protects the devices from power surges,
which can potentially destroy them. By keeping everyone safe and powered
and neatly organized, it helps in the network installation by ensuring all devices, even those
that need the internet, are on and functional.

HOW DATA MOVES THROUGH THE NETWORK
Every time the teenager uses any gadget within the bedroom, whether the laptop, smart
television, or gaming console, the gadget transfers a request for data over wireless or wired
media to the router. The router then transfers the request to the Internet Service Provider, who
then relays it to the internet. The information required is divided into small bundles known as
packets and transmitted through the internet and return via the ISP back to the router. The
router identifies which device to send the information to after receiving the packets and
forwards the data. Wired connectivity via Ethernet cables allows faster and more efficient
delivery of data, while wireless access allows for more mobility around the room. All this
occurs quickly and quietly, so the teenager can stream, surf, or game stress-free.
