DEIF Synchronization & Sequential Logic Without Using PLC

The DEIF AGC 200 effectively manages emergency power backup for a large resort and casino in Nepal using five 500 KVA Cummins diesel generators. It automates the synchronization and load-sharing processes, ensuring immediate power restoration during outages from the Nepal Electricity Board. The system features advanced safety protocols to prevent overloads and maintain customer satisfaction through reliable power management solutions.

DEIF AGC 200 provides fast emergency power backup .

Case Study of DEIF AGC 200

DEIF Advanced Genset Controller AGC 200 effectively managed DG synchronization, bus coupler
synchronization & sequential logic to back up the power immediately

Project: AMF, Auto start/stop, synchronization, load-sharing & power management between the 5
Cummins DG powering Nepal’s one of the biggest resort and casino.

Power source: 500 KVA x 5 DG. Cummins DG with PCC 3.3

Located in southern Nepal’s subtropical Terai region, the resort is just 8km north from the India-Nepal
border. DEIF India, the most capable Engineering & Design team, helped the customer with the setting
up of AGC 200. DEIF helped in the engineering, programming & execution of sequential breaker logic to
ensure the power supply to the resort & casino.

Application diagram:
Plant Operational Logic:

The plant logic is designed for two conditions:

Condition 1: Failure of main

A. When Nepal Electricity Board (NEB) Fails - Auto Mode

• When any NEB fails (NEB-1 or NEB-2), both EB breaker trips & all DG start in auto
mode & close its breaker followed by synchronizing DG bus coupler 1 & 2
• After closing of any DG breaker, OG -1 switches on after 15 sec, OG -2 & OG-3 after 10
sec respectively
• If OG-1 or OG-2 fails to close, Common bus coupler CBC-1 switches on
• If OG-3 fails to close, Common bus coupler CBC-2 switches on

You may see the sequence as below:

Sequence after NEB NEB DG DG BC- DG BC- DG DG OG CBC OG CBC OGF

NEB failure 1 2 -1 -2 1 -3 2 -4 -5 F1 1 F2 2 3

2.( If DGF-1 fails to Off Off ON ON ON ON ON ON ON OFF ON ON OFF ON

3.( If DGF2 fails to Off Off ON ON ON ON ON ON ON On On OF OFF ON

close ) F

4.( If DGF-3 fails to Off Off ON ON ON ON ON ON ON ON OFF ON ON OFF

B. When NEB Resumes ( Auto Mode )

Sequence EB 1 EB DG- DG- BC- DG- BC- DG- DG- DG F1 CBC 1 DGF 2 CBC 2 DGF 3
after EB 2 1 2 1 3 2 4 5
Resume

1. Normal ON ON OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF ON OFF OFF OFF
operation

2.( If CBC-1 ON ON OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF OFF ON ON ON
fails to close )
If NEB resumes, the below sequence will follow:
• DG Priority changes according to the running hours of DG after every 24 hrs. After
every 24 hours, less running hr DG gets the 1st priority & then the remaining DG on hourly
basis
• If the load on DG is more than 80%, then the next priority DG gets a start
• If the load on connected DGs is less than 65%, then the highest priority DG will stop
• If loaded DG receives DG COMMON FAULT from DG side, then the next priority DG
will start. It will synch with other DGs & take a load of DG having DG COMMON FAULT
alarm. After transferring the load, DG having DG COMMON FAULT alarm will open its
breaker & get shutdown.

These are the advanced features of the DEIF AGC controller called ‘Safety Stop’.

The fail class "Safety stop" starts the next stand by DG before opening the DG breaker
having a fault. This feature avoids the overloading trip of other running DG.

AGC 222 Terminal Overview

• Terminal for DG breaker closing and tripping

• Configurable relay outputs for speed and voltage regulation, horn, preheat, alarm,
etc.
• Digital inputs for remote start and stop the DG set
• Terminal strip for current measurement
• Terminal strip for DG voltage measurement
• Terminal strip for bus-bar voltage measurement
• Configurable relay output for grid breaker NEB control
• Configurable relay output for DG outgoing breaker OGF control

AGC 244 Terminal Overview

• Terminal for bus coupler breaker closing and tripping

• Configurable relay outputs for horn & alarm etc.
• Terminal strip for BUS-A & BUS-B Voltage Measurement
• Terminal strip for Bus-bar Voltage Measurement
• Configurable relay output for common bus coupler breaker CBC
Speed Governor Module:
Engine Speed Governor Model: Cummins PCC 3.3.

Voltage Control Module :

Alternator AVR Model: Cummins PCC 3.3.

• The analogue output from DEIF controllers is connected to PCC 3.3 for speed &
voltage Regulation.

Conclusion

Customer satisfaction was immense and not to mention, thoroughly received as this project
was set up as per their requirement by DEIF India. DEIF’s solutions are designed specifically
to serve as a reliable, fully integrated, and optimizing link between sustainable power plants
and Genset power plants.
