Simplify the following expression and express the answer in standard form:\n( -3/4 + 5/6 ) ÷ ( 7/8 - 2/3 ) (3

If a = 2/5, b = -3/7, c = 4/(-15), verify that addition is associative for these values, i.e., show that (a + b) + c =

a + (b + c) (3 marks)

Find the value of:\n[ 7/9 - { 2/3 × ( -5/6 + 1/2 ) } ] (3 marks)

A farmer divided his land into 3 parts. He gave 3/5 of one part to his elder son and 4/7 of the second part to

his younger son. What fraction of the whole land has he given to his sons?\n(Assume each part is 1/3 of the

total land.) (3 marks)

Solve and represent on the number line:\n( -3/4 × 2/5 ) + ( 7/10 ÷ -1/2 ) (4 marks)

If a rational number is subtracted from its additive inverse, the result is 8. Find the rational number. (4 marks)
