Journal Entry: Exploring ICT Tools and Equipment

Subject: Information and Communications Technology (ICT)

Grade Level: (Specify Grade Level)

Day 1: Introduction to ICT Tools and Computer Programming (1

hour)

Date: October 26, 2023

Learning Competency: Identify and describe common hardware and

software used in computer programming.

Objectives:

 Define computer programming hardware and software.

 Identify examples of IDEs, version control systems, and
compilers/debuggers.

 Explain the importance of each tool in the software development

process.

Remarks: The lesson began with an overview of computer programming

hardware (computers, laptops). The images of various IDEs (Visual Studio
Code, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm) were helpful. The explanation of version control
(Git, GitHub, GitLab) was particularly insightful, emphasizing collaboration.

Reflection: I found the visual aids very helpful in understanding the tools.
I'm curious to explore these tools further, especially Git for collaborative
projects. I wonder how these tools differ across various programming
languages.

Day 2: Computer Systems Servicing and Visual Arts Tools (1 hour)

Date: October 27, 2023

Learning Competency: Identify and describe tools used in computer

systems servicing and visual arts.

Objectives:

 Identify and describe tools used in computer systems servicing (hand

tools, diagnostic equipment).
 Identify and describe tools used in visual arts (digital cameras,
scanners, design software).

 Explain the importance of safety precautions when using these tools.

Remarks: The detailed images of hand tools used in computer repair were
surprising. I hadn't realized the level of precision needed. The visual arts
section showcased digital cameras, scanners, and software (Photoshop,
Illustrator, Blender).

Reflection: The lesson highlighted the precision and care required in

computer repair. The visual arts section opened up new possibilities for
creative expression. I'm eager to learn more about using digital art tools.

Day 3: Telecommunication Hardware and Software (1 hour)

Date: October 28, 2023

Learning Competency: Identify and describe telecommunication hardware

and software.

Objectives:

 Identify and describe common telecommunication hardware (modems,

routers, switches, antennas, base stations).
 Identify and describe common telecommunication software (network
management tools, telephony applications, communication protocols).

 Explain the role of each tool in enabling communication.

Remarks: The images of telecommunication hardware were very helpful in

visualizing the physical components of networks. The software section
(SolarWinds, PRTG, Asterisk, FreeSWITCH, TCP/IP, VoIP) was informative,
although quite technical.

Reflection: I gained a better understanding of the complex infrastructure

behind everyday communication. I'm now more aware of the technology
involved in making a phone call or accessing the internet. I'd like to learn
more about network management tools.

Day 4: Practical Applications and Resources (1 hour)

Date: October 29, 2023

Learning Competency: Apply knowledge of ICT tools and equipment to

practical scenarios.
Objectives:

 Identify best practices for using ICT tools and equipment safely and
effectively.
 Identify and utilize online resources for learning more about ICT tools.

 Apply knowledge to a simple project using one of the tools.

Remarks: The lesson emphasized safety and the importance of following

manufacturer guidelines. The suggestion to explore YouTube tutorials and
online documentation was very helpful. The call to action—to try one tool in
a real-world scenario—was motivating.

Reflection: The emphasis on safety and practical application was important.

I plan to start with a simple project using Visual Studio Code. I'm excited to
put what I've learned into practice. I need to find a suitable project that
allows me to utilize one of the tools.
