Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:
Zahir Raihan was one of the most talented film-makers in Bangladesh. He was born on 19
August 1935 in the village Majupur in Feni district. He was an active worker of the Language
Movement and was one of the ten students to go out in a procession on 21 February 1952,
defying a government ban. As a result, he and many others were arrested. Raihan was also
present at the historical meeting of Amtala on that day and later took part in the Mass
Movement in 1969. In 1971, he joined the Liberation War.
Zahir dreamt of a democratic society where freedom of speech would be ensured. He also had
many dreams about the film industry. His legendary film Jibon Theke Neya was based on the
Language Movement. It was a protest against the then autocratic government. The family
portrayed in the film symbolized East Pakistan. The ruling figure of the family, an autocratic
woman, is sent to prison for her conspiracies.
During the war, his documentary Stop Genocide was used to raise international support for the
Liberation War. Renowned film-makers such as Satyajit Ray appreciated his work. On 30
December 1971, Zahir went to Mirpur looking for his missing brother, the writer Shahidullah
